Hi Marcia:
Brown, George S. 30 Oct. 1897 Brown's Genealogy of Yarmouth Co., Nova Scotia "Yarmouth Genealogies, No. 37" Samuel Corning and His Descendents , page 217 states:"1701,May 28, Benjamin, married 1723, Feby 6, Judith Raymond." Son of Elizabeth and John 1st, son of Samuel2nd, son of Samuel 1st.
I also have Judith Raymond's lineage:daughter of Nathaniel & Rebecca (Conant) Raymond, son of John Raymond; son of George & Mary Raymond. Judith's mother was the grand daughter of Roger Conant, one of the leading figures of the first Massachusetts settlement.
I would love to have more information on the William and Judith (Corning) Leach descendents as the only thing I have at the moment is Judith's birth date (18 July 1731 in Beverly, MA).
Thanks, Mary Ann

Charles Corning b. 1856 Attleboro, MA and parents from RI

Looking for information on Charles Corning born 1856 in Attleboro, (spelling changed from Attleborough in 1914). Parents were Charles and Mary Corning of Attelborough, MA from vital records, 1841-1910, vol. 96 page 81, number 255,
May 4, place of birth Attleboro. Residence is Attleboro, occupation of Father is Laborer, Place of birth of Father and Mother is Scituate, Rhode Island. Scituate in Providence county, RI.
This may be my Great Uncle or Great-Grandfather.
My Grandfather Edward Corning was from, (born?), in Taunton, MA or Attleboro, MA around 1877 to 1882. These towns are a natural progression based on location. Scituate, Attleboro, Taunton, and then he moved up to Lynn, MA. If you have any Corning's from Scituate, RI and/or Attleboro, MA I would appreciate information.
thanks

Hi Marcia:
Steve is so right about the various Corning surname spellings, that it does make life very confusing at times. However, I do have in my database Judith Corning who married William Leach. Judith's parents were Benjamin (1701-1754) and Judith (Raymond) Corning. Benjamin was born in Beverly, Massachusetts and moved to Salem NH around 1730. Benjamin was the son of John and Elizabeth (Edwards); son of Samuel and Hannah (Batchelder); son of Ensign Samuell (1616-1694) and Elizabeth Corning. Ensign Samuell was the first Corning to North America coming from England.
Benjamin and Judith (Raymond) Corning had : George, John, Hannah, Judith and Benjamin. I have no information from Judith Corning Leach forward.
Hope this helps.
Mary Ann

Charles and Mary Corning, son Charles born 1856 Attleboro, MA

Do you have this Charles Corning in your tree?
Well do you have any Corning's from Taunton or Attleboro, MA? (both are in Bristol County).

I obtained the obituary for my Grandfather Edward Corning's first wife, and it indicated he may have been from Attleboro, MA(was Attleborough until 1914). I estimate he was born around 1882, but it may have been as early as 1877.
He had thought he was born in Taunton, and both towns are in Bristol County. My current theory is he may have been the youngest with Charles being the oldest brother. They had a sister Ann which was probably born inbetween.

The NEGHS database has a Charles Corning born to Charles and Mary Corning of Attleborough, MA in 1856. I searched the 1860 Census manually and found no Corning's in Attleborough.

Thanks for your help.

Sorry I am not able to help you with connections. However seeing the name Corming instead of Corning is almost automatic for me. In using data bases I always look up Coming and Conning as well as Corning. If you look at how Corning is handwritten you will see the r and the n run together.
The older version of Corning and Coming also sometimes have an "s" added for some reason?

Here is my current list of mispellings:
Common Misspellings of Corning name:
Coming (NEGHS and census), Conning, Corming, Croning, Cornin, Korning, Cornong (sometimes added s at end in Census), Cowing (new one for me)

Common misspellings and typos for this name: cornnig, croning, conring, ocrning, cornin, cornina,
cornong, coening, cornings, corninga, corninge, corningi, corningo, cornninng

I have even found McCorning, (Scottish), and a few Korning's (German)
Hi everyone,

I'm currently searching for info on my ancestor Judith Corning, b. about 1732 in Salem, Rockingham, NH. She was married to William Leach. The only evidence I can find of her in print is in the book 'Lawrence Leach of Salem, MA and some of his descendants' and in that she's listed with the last name Corming. I don't know if this was a typo, because on various gedcoms I've seen her with the last name Corning however the info is unsourced. I have no details of her parents or death date.

Any help or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Marcia

Hi Renee:
Not sure if this will help. I have William B. Corning (1806-1892) divorcing Lucy Sept. 7 1840 in Illinois. They had three children: James Henry, Charles Thomas (married Jane Adams), and Elizabeth A. Charles Thomas and Jane had William H. Corning. I have some birth dates for the children but they don't make sense if William and Lucy were divorced in 1840. Will have to follow up on those. Walter M. Corning I don't have in my database.
Mary Ann

Good Morning:
I am a Corning and keep the family database on my computer, so I am always glad when I can add to it and make the research more complete. I have no record of Mabel being of Native American descent but there is Indian blood in the family. Mabel was born in 1886 in Haverhill, MA and died in Indiana. She was the daughter of Joseph F. (1847-1915) and Lucy (Crosby) Corning, of Joseph (b.1821) and Mary (Walton), of Peter (1796-1880) and M olly (Pierce), of Joseph (1762-1823) and Esther (Standley), of Peter (1733-1814) and Mary (Presson), of Joseph (1707-1788) and Hannah (Pride), of Joseph (1679-1718) and Rebecca (Woodberry). of Samuel (1641-1714) and Hannah (Batchelder), of Samuell (1616-1694) and Elizabeth. This Samuell was the first Corning to North America from England and this line stayed in he Beverly, MA area right up to Joseph F.
This may be more info than you wanted but let me know what else I can add.
Mary Ann

Hello!

I have access to an entire book of vintage Corning family photos ... my guess is late 1800's, early 1900's possibly earlier. This would be the very wealthy family, I think the glass people?
Some of the photos on the back say Bel Air, Md ... some say Corning, NY. There are other towns, too, but I don't have the book in front of me. I can authenticate the ownership, so it is definately the correct family.

Does anyone know of any book where I can possibly figure out who some of these people are.

Also ... why is John Wilkes Booth in this book? Matching facial features, I would venture a guess that he is a relative. Is that possible?

Josiah & Jane (ANDREWS) CORNING in 1700's Norwich, CT

Hello. I have been trying to determine the correct name for the wife of Ezra CROSBY when he married in 1770 in Norwich, CT. It now appears that her name at that time was Mrs. Lydia (CORNING) PARISH.

According to on-line LDS records, Lydia CORNING was probably the daughter of Josiah CORNING and Jane ANDREWS of 1700's, Norwich, CT. (New London County)

Josiah and Jane seem to have married in Jan. 1733/34 in Norwich, CT, and they seem to have had 11 children born to them:
Ephraim, Ephraim, Lydia, Sarah, Ezra, Ann, Mary (Polly), Daniel, Elisha, John, and Asa.

Josiah CORNING appears to have been the son of Joseph CORNING and Rebecca WOODBURY, Josiah being born in Nov. 1709 in Beverly, MA.

Is this Joseph CORNING a descendant of the patriarch, Samuel CORNING, of 1600's Beverly, MA?

Edward Corning from MA, born 1882 died 1939 in WI

Still looking for help on Corning name. My grandfather is Edward Charles Corning, and my most recent research indicates he was born in Taunton, MA (Bristol County) March 20, 1882. He said he was an orphan but listed his father as Edward or Charles Corning, and his mother as Mary.
He had a sister (Mrs. Ann Waldron) who lived in Upper New York State. He had a brother Charles who probably lived in Boston, MA.

His first wife was Josephine Fitzgerald,(I have some info on this family too), married in Lynn, MA 1901. They had a daughter Margaret born 1909 in New York, who seems to have disappeared in Milwaukee, WI around 1921/22. Edward first appears in Milwaukee, WI in 1918, still working for the Boston Machine Works Co., headquartered out of Lynn, MA.

Josephine Corning was divorced, but kept her name and in the 1930 MA census, was living with her sister K(C)atherine Murphy, and her Husband in Walden City,MA (Middlesex county).

His second wife, (my grandmother) was Ella Kressin married in Milwaukee 1925. Most of the Corning relatives come from Milwaukee, WI and live there or in Chicago area.

Most people seem to have descended from the "English" Corning name. Do any of you have "Irish", Corning ancestors? I also came across a "German" Corning.

I am hoping someone may have information on Margaret Corning. I have found more info which indicates Margaret Corning was born in 1909, in New York. She is the Daughter of Edward Corning, (my Grandfather), and Josephine Corning (Fitzgerald). I have her as 10 years old in the Milwaukee, WI Federal census. I also found her listed in the Milwaukee school census of 1921, (11+ years old). Edward divorced Josephine June 12, 1924 in Kenosha WI. The divorce papers indicate he did not have children at the time?

Y chromosome is of probable Celtic origin Prevalent in Ireland, and northern and western Britian. If trace paternal ancestry to Wales, Scotland, Ireland, and western England then Celtic origin is almost certain. Paternal clan of “Oisin”, (West Eurasia).

Database search, use COMING instead of Corning

For those of you doing database searches this may help. I finally found an important 1910 census record by searching under the name COMING instead of the correct Corning.
The 1900 census record was also under COMING.
Apparently a lot of the transcriptions use COMING or COMINGS instead of Corning. Apparently the RNIN combination in script confused the transcribers. So....after many years of searching I found my Grandfather, Edward Corning and his wife Josephine living in DeSoto Missouri. (I thought he was in New York, but could never find him?).
