The Arthur Cornish I am researching was born in 1910. HE is listed in the Censis of 1911 as a 4mo.old. He lived in a small villlage called Winfrith Newburg, Dorset, England He immigrated to Canada in 1929.

His Parents are Henry and Alice Ann Cornish. He had multiple siblings whose names I won`t mention here but I do have them all listed Under Veeck Family Tree Under Evelyn Hancock Family tree.
There are many Arthur Cornish in Canada so it is difficult to locate the correct one, but if you know if any of this history matches it would be helpful.
Regards,
Judy Hancock
I am also looking for African-American Cornishes from Maryland. The name Colburn might possibly fit in as well in the early 1900's. Ironically, when returning from a vacation in Jamaica a few years back, small talk at Customs brought up a Cornish Reunion being held on the Island. Wish we knew! We have hit a few speed bumps, and even a few brick walls, but would like to share information on this journey with other African-American Cornishes.

Monique

Hi Bill ! Thanks for replying. I live close to the areas which you mentioned...Bay, Genesee., and Saginaw Counties. I grew up in Saginaw County. My father grew up in Lapeer County. If you should need any research help in Bay, Saginaw, and Lapeer Cunty, just ask. I live in Isabella County which has Central Michigan University and the Clarke Historical Collection....tons of information on Michigan's history.
I, also, have a copy of the Cornish Lineage by Joseph Cornish here at home. ALWAYS nice to locate another Cornish cousin....especially if they lived in Michigan. I have been having all kinds of problems locating informatin from Royalton (Lockport) NY in Niagara County about my Cornish family as well as in Erie, PA about an Aaron Cornish who was a Presbyterian minister there.
Thanks, again, for writing.
Greetings! I don't think we're connected at this time.

My Cornish line is fairly limited; Levi Cornish (born about 1825 in New York state) married Harriet Hibbard Jenkins on 2 July 1854 in Greenfield Township, Wayne County, Michigan (Henry Ford's Greenfield Village area if you're familiar with Michigan). It was her second marriage, she lived much of her adult life in the area of what now is Burton, Michigan but at the time was called Richfield, Genesee County, MI.

They were in Bay City, MI by 1860. Levi died by 1870.

Children were Avilda, Cora, Eugene, Virginia, Viola, and Dora. I an descended from Viola, born 10 February 1864, who married William L. Carney on 22 January 1880 in Bay City. They had nine children, including my grandfather.

-Bill Carney

Where did your Cornish family members live in MI and what were their first names? I have lineage records for Dennison, son of Aaron and Laura Stone Cornish, Rhoda Cornish Oviatt, sister of Aaron and aunt of Dennison, etc. etc. They lived primarily in Lapeer and Eaton Counties. Could we be related or connected in any way? Would appreciate hearing from you.

recordbug@aol.com

I was wondering of someone has already compiled the Cornish family names in "The history and genealogy of the Cornish Family" book from 1907 into a GEDCOM file? I'm working on connecting a bunch of dots, and flipping back and forth looking for a family's ID number is just confusing me. Is there a downloadable file someplace on the web?
I found a death certificate in Eaton County, MI for Alexander Oviatt 1824-1900, his parents are listed as Wheeler Oviatt born Conn. and Rhoda Cornish born Penn.

Rhoda's funeral home record states her parents as Alexander Oviatt and Mary Ann Tharatt.
CORNISH in USA

Before my father died he wrote down what he could remember about his family after having very little contact with them for fifty years.

My father thought that my great grandfather was named Albert Edward Cornish and he was married to Elizabeth Creason. After searching through ancestry.com I think that my great grandfather may have been John Albert Cornish (not Albert Edward Cornish) who was born about 1866 in Wisconsin and died Feb 8, 1955 in Salt Lake City. This man was married to Elizabeth Tilden Cornish (1877 - 1927).

I know that my grandmother was born Ruby May Cornish 1904 - 1985. I know that she was born in Monte Vista CO, grew up there, married William McKenzie (1895 - 1968), and that her children were all born in this area. (The area in Southern CO and northern NM). She moved to Calfornia after serving in the WACs during WWII, married Guy Phillips, and died there.

My understanding is that my grandmother, Ruby May Cornish, was not raised a Mormon but that some of her family became Mormons and may have moved to Salt Lake City. Before my brother died he told me he had located and corresponded to one of her brothers who was a Mormon. I think my brother told me that this brother had a son named Curt and a daughter named Claudia. Unfortunately the correspondence has been lost.

I hope someone knows something about these people.

Cornish Family Bible

I am searching for a bible belonging to my gg grandfather Joseph H. Cornish. It was given to him by his brother Newell Cornish. The fly leaf shows Newell gave the bible to Joseph at Christmas of 1910. The bible was returned to Newell by my mother back in 1981 with the passing of her mother who was Joseph's daughter. Newell was living in Naples, FLorida with his wife Viola at the time. Anyone with information as to where the bible might have gone since Newell's death in 1999 can contact me directly at switch1966@msn.com. Thanks! Robin Wilson, Austin, Texas

Yes. As secretary for the Society of Cornishes I have done this and updated some families further forward and back -but the file is not available. The society offers help to its members and will send extracts from its records i.e. will provide help in extending trees. For details of membership see our website
www.cornishsurname.matthewcornish.info/
I am unable to locate your John Cornish in the History and Genealogy of the Cornish Families in American by Joseph Cornish. I am unable to find any mention of Harriet Wilding, also. Have you been in contact with Roger Cornish, head of the Cornish Society of England? He is excellent and might be of some help to you. I'm sure his address can be found via www.google.com . If anyone can help you, he can !!!

Diane recordbug@aol.com
