William J. Cornwell; Special to the State Chester, Feb. 10 -
William J. Cornwell, a prominent farmer and a well know Confederate veteran, died Friday night at the home of his brother Robert H. Cornwell near the Indian reservation
about eight miles east of Rock Hill, death following an attack of pneumonia. Funeral services and burial were held Saturday at Neely's Creek A.R. P. church, of which the deceased was for many years a faithful and consistent member.
Mr. Cornwell, who was in the 71st year, was born near Capers Chapel, a few miles from here, the son of Wm. And Lilly Cornwell and spent practically his whole life with the exception the years of the War Between the States as a farmer of this section, achieving marked success and
maintaining throughout the course of a long life the high standard of a brave Christian man. He was a member of Company F, Sixth South Carolina (Col. Bratton's) regiment.
Mr. Cornwell is survived by two brothers Robert H. and Brooks Cornwell, and four sisters Mrs. Theodore Allen of Harmony, Mrs. Emmeline Dunlap, Mrs. Wm. Agnew and Mrs. Martin Cornwell
