Coronel/Mauricio name change

I have an ancestor who changed his last name from Coronel to his first name, Mauricio, when he emigrated from Spain to Mexico. He may have done so to escape trouble with the law. It was several generations ago, I don't know when. If you have information on a Mauricio Coronel from Spain, please reply to this thread.

My grandmother was a Coronel, the family came from Baja to Southern California. Her parents were Jose and Emilia. She had a sister Leonora, could this be the person in your wedding photo? on one of the border crossings a daughter by the name of Carmela is listed as far as I know there was no daughter by this name and none of my living relatives knows who this is, could this be your grandmother?
I have a formal wedding portrait of Leonora Coronel and her husband Ricardo (Unknown surname) dated 1926. It is inscribed in spanish to my grandmother. My grandmother was a foster child in the Coronel household before her own marriage. If this photo means something to someone, I'd be glad to forward the original to you.

Here are photos of your distant prima Francisca ('Chata") Coronel. She married Teodosio Yorba, son of Bernardo Yorba (one of his children out of dozens, it seems, from three different wives. No wonder those ranchos went broke!).
Chata was Antonio Coronel's daughter by his first wife. My PDF files are not well named, so I need to go through them to find the archives about the legal battles between Chata and her stepmother.
More, then, later!

Thank You, for responding. i did not receive your photos or newspaper clippings to which i would love to see if possible. Unfortunately i have found that we are not descendant's of the Coronels of Los Angeles IE Ignacio and Antonio F Coronel line. but of another branch that came over around 1860 and stayed in Santa Barbara, Tubircio and Julia Coronel raised their grandson from Epeminia Coronel And Husband? Jose Galvan, Hence my Grandfathers name Jose G Coronel, My father was Joseph A Coronel. its nice to fit the pieces correctly and that was eluding me for a long time, always assumed we came from that line for the simple reason couldn't find any other Coronels in the area around those dates. but further research reveled quite a few branches in and around that time. Much more needs to be researched when i can find time as to their connection from Mexico, Here we go Again. But any help that i can supply please let me know. i have come across some remarkable finds in my search.

Thank You Rick Coronel Of Pacoima, California

would it be possible that you might have any information on the Coronel side of your family. I would be very interested if you could email me and we could exchange notes. I have accumulated a considerable amount of pictures and data in my search for the Coronels, Antonio, his wife and his brother Manuel Coronel are currently my target ancesters.

Thank You Rick Coronel: 8th generation

Hello Rick!

My name is Frances Perez. My mother's father was a Coronel. We believe his name was Leandro Coronel. He was killed so we really don't know much about the Coronels. His mother remarried a Tisnado and he was adopted by a Tisnado. You stated Antonio had a previous wife before Marianna. Do you know her name and her daughter's name?

Your information is much appreciated. Thank you!

hello, my name is edward tisnado, i am a direct blood decendant of coronel bloodline. my grandfather was adopted by a tisnado when great grand emily remarried after her loss, great grandfather coronel was murdered in 1890s in arizona, according to my grandfathers story as far as he knew my biological great grandfather is directly related to capitan antonio coronel which led settlers from san pedro river valley to the californias,
my grandfather was born in pima way back in 1880s, arizona territory and he is also down as one of the original homesteaders in the rio san pedro valley, so if you know of anyone that could make available some of the history of the coronel blood line i would greatly appreciate it, for the longest time i had been looking under the name of coronet, up untill legal documentation surfaced verifying that the name was coronel. my grandfather was baptized shortly after his birth as ismael coronel, i am very ill, and time for me is running short, so i would be dying happy with the knowledge of who my bloodline kin is, if for nothing else fitting the missing pieces of the puzzle, which has been my lifelong dream. thank you, in advance.
sincerely edward.

Re: Chata Coronel Yorba, Los Angeles California

My info is sketchy as this is my late husband's family. Francisca (Chata) Coronel, born November 22, 1851, was the daughter of Antonio Coronel, probably by his first wife. She married Teodosio Jeronimo Yorba, the son of Bernardo Yorba and grandson of Jose Antonion Yorba, in Los Angeles on Febrary 4, 1888. They had three children about whom I have documentation: daughters Ernestina and Josefita, son Rogelio who died before his 2nd birthday, I believe there was a a fourth, youngest son but I know next to nothing about him - I ran across some news articles about a Yorba son - named I believe Alfred or Albert (??) but I gave the scrapbook to family members with whom I no longer have contact.

Among the papers in the scrapbook was a newspaper article printed when Chata passed away - I believe it came from the LA Herald Examiner and if there is a way to access their archives you may find more Coronel information there. Good luck! I have photos of Chata which I have attached.

Have you seen any of the pictures from the Coronel Collection? I'm a ringer for AF Coronel's younger brother Ygnacio. In my younger days with long hair. It is scary.

It is my understanding that AF did not have any children. If this is true then Rick could be a decendent of Manuel or Ygnacio. I am tring to find out where my greatgrandmother Rufugio Coronel ties in.

Daniel

coronel ancestry

The year was 1958, working my way thru Beauty school at Santa Ana Beauty College. A young man, working as beauty supplier from Los Angeles(I think)spoke to me about Coronel ancestry. Saw my name on my time card, said his family had complete family history of Coronels. I didn't realize the importance at the time. Now, Santa Ana Beauty College gone, have no idea where instructors are. Gentleman explained something about how the name became Coronel. Would appreciate anyone knowing about this geneological history.
