Hi Gwyn. Yes, I have a copy of 'See How They Ring' on my coffee table; I bought it at the Handbells concert in Launceston back in September. Some great information in it, including several pictures I hadn't seen before. Congratulations on an excellent piece of work.

I knew several of the Corrick family when I was young, although sadly, not my grandmother Alice. However, I now have a copy of a 78 rpm record she recorded in the late 1940's, so at least I have heard her wonderful voice.

Regards,
Tony Sadleir
Launceston, Tasmania

Hi,
Well, if you do find yourself travelling to the UK, then let me know and I will show you around some of the "Corrick" sights. Why are you interested in the Corricks? Are you originally a Corrick? Yep, I know what you mean about the music running in the family - strange isn't it?
I also am interested in Psycology etc, and have worked in the support / care field for 22 years now, so we seem to have alot in common...... I look forward to hearing more from you.
I'm in Tasmania, Australia! But I intend to go travelling a lot once I've finished my degree and would love to travel to the UK, and come to the areas and see the graveyard & house you speak of!

Isn't it interesting that music can run in a family like that? It must have something to do with the brain, which I find fascinating, as well as music I am also interested in psychology & neurology.

If you'd like to talk more my email is tilley.rebecca [at] gmail.com :)

Hi, Yep, I understand your fascination, as I am also (or used to be) a musician, playing the French Horn. My father also was a piano and organ player. I would love to hear more from you. I don't know if I can make th elink with this branch of the family, BUT, my lot descend from Taunton in Somerset Uk, where Albert originally came from. There is also a very small village on the Quantcoks (a range of hills - AONB) locally called Enmore where there are alot of Corrick's in th egraveyard. There is also a house called "Corricks", where one of th eladies of the family used to give musical lesons.
It would seem thta music runs in the Corrick family. There is also a museum in nearby Street which talks about a Corrick (sorry, the Christian name evades me at the moment), who set up Clarks shoes with Mr Clark!
Whereabouts in the world are you? are you in the UK? I have found a few members of the family through research, one of which I am sure is related, the others I am not so sure about! Look up Jason Corrick on your search engine, he is a very well known Body Builder - different! I also used to work in th epolice station and one day recieved an email from a Bob Corrick (again, another musician - very talented Sax and Trombone) and we have become very good friends. I think that his Father was cousin to my Grandfather, but, unfortuanatly my Father died in 1984 and I don't know much about the family, but would love to learn more, as I was very close to him, being the youngest - I was 14 when he passed away and would love to create a family tree in his memory.
I aplogogise for my typos - my keyboard is playing up! I would love to hear from you.
Regards,
becks

This is an old posting so hopefully by now you have corrected the name of Charles Marteney's wife to Mary Ann (Anna Marie) Franck. The Moris/Maris, which someone "corrected" to Morris, was a poor reading of handwritten Maria on a document in West Virginia.
My gutfeel was she came from around West Quantockshead... Dont remember why. I assumed she associated with the Lutterell family. Hence my mothers idea about a link to Dunster.. "She came from Dunster" according to Family tradition. Became known as one of the 3 beauties of Somerset, and so came to the attention of King George

Coleridge new the Quantocks and probably the Brendon hills well

Doubt I will see Somerset again.
Hi Bill thanks for that. I live not far from Dunster and have lookedin the graveyard also! Next time that you are in Somerset, look in the graveyard at the little village called "Enmore", the graveyard is quite full of Corricks, there is also a cottage called Corricks.
Then go to Street and visit the Clarks Shoe factory. A John Corrick was co-founder. Keep in touch!

Coleridge wrote in a poem "All my eye and Betty Martin". Noone knows who he is referring too. My mother tells me Betty Martin married Charles Ansell who was 14 in 1805. She said her maiden name was Corrick and we once visited Dunster churchyard to look for family gravestones without success. The Luttrell family owned Dunster and much of SW somerset at the time and Coleridge knew the area. Family tradition is that she was a mistress of King George and we had a necklace he gave her. Gold and beautiful, but apparently the stones are paste and the gold is fake. The George was the one referred to as Georgey Porgy Pudding and pie, kissed the girls and made them cry... Renowned for having many mistresses. Preferred wine and women to affairs of State. She first married Captain Martin, a naval officer. Doing his bit for King and country I suppose. Later she married my mother's forebear. The Ansell's lived in Barking until the 1870s. I visited Barking churchyard a few years ago to see it there were Ansell gravestones. Didn't find any, but there were lots of Martin gravestones.

Interesting that the family refer to her as Betty Martin rather than Ansell

The phrase "all my eye and Betty Martin" suggests someone is talking rubbish.. a tall story. Which is likely from a successful courtesan, so likely Coleridge was referring to her.

Might find out after armaggedon

Rgds Bill

The family has a painting of her face somewhere. Probably my sister has it. Elizabethatkin@hotmail.com

My grandfather is Frederick William Corrick and I have since found that his father is Thomas Corrick born 1877 in Bristol and I believe he was born in Barton Hill in Bristol. The census shows a lot of Corricks' in this area in the 1880's. My Great Grandfather married Kate Sherman born Childrey in Berkshire and married in Sparsholt Berkshire. Thomas Corrick's father is John Corrick born 1856c at Bristol St Philip & Jacob Out. Sue

Corrick/Hixon connection?

I am looking for information about William F.(b. MO, abt 1866) and Adelia Jones Hixon (b. KS, abt 1870), who were living in New Orleans in 1930. My wife's Ggrandmother, Julia Hauser Lyle, was living in their household, and is listed as "servant" in the census. William's occupation is listed as "credit bureau agent." In 1920, he and his family were in St. Louis, MO, where Julia's son-in-law, Edwin G. Corrick, operated a detective agency, and I am trying to see if there was a professional connection between Hixon and Corrick that might have led to Julia's employment in New Orleans. I have been trying to trace Julia's whereabouts between her husband Victor Lyle's death abt 1904 and her residence in New Orleans in 1930. Any clues would be much appreciated.

Re: CORRICK in IA &OH in the 1800s

I descend from Mary and/or Cynthia Chilcote b. abt 1800 who married William Stevens. William served in the War of 1812 in Ohio. He and his Chilcote wife had their first child, John, in Indiana about 1819/1820, but then moved back to Hocking Co OH where they had children: Betsy, Rachel Arminta, Samuel C., Jesse and Mary "Polly". Mary "Polly" married Archibald Ankrom, son of Joseph Ankrom & Anna Ellison [but both parents died young & he was raised by his Ellison grandparents in Hocking Co. OH. William Stevens & family lived close to George Corrick & his wife Jemima [Chilcote], and close to Richard Ankrom and other Ankroms. They also lived fairly close to John Chilcote b. 1790-1800 in MD & wife Hester. From information posted on the following website, William & Mary [Chilcote] Stevens daughter, Rachel Arminta was at least part Indian & there is a picture of her and of one of her sons on that website [click camera link] that seems to bear this out. http://birdsofafeather1.com/surnames/all/group/f216.htm Let me know if you are related. I am working on a theory that William Stevens' wife Mary was a daughter of Robinson L. Chilcote as he was one of the only Chilcote's who moved to Indiana about the same time as William & Mary's first son was born in Indiana. Please let me know if you find out more and I will post here again if I do as well.

Hi Rebecca. I am descended from this line of the Corricks; my great grandfather was Albert Corrick, who emigrated with his father John to New Zealand in the early 1860's. Albert married New Zealand girl Sarah Alice Calvert in 1877; the Corricks and their children became the famous touring Corrick Family Entertainers, who toured Australia and New Zealand before settling in Launceston, Tasmania during WW1. Albert and Sarah's daughter Alice May Corrick was my grandmother, marrying William Edward Sadleir in 1913. I have been trying to trace the Corricks in Taunton, but have hit something of a brick wall with them.
Regards,
Tony Sadleir, Launceston Tasmania Australia.
