Thanks guess I am just still confused, The james White Corrie has a different date on his tombstone and was reportedly born in maryland. There is a census listing both he and Aryon (not sure of spelling was probably Arie or arreta) lists Maryland as their birth palce

My James was born about 1802, and died in 1852, so it is either a mistake or there is another James White Corrie. I have found that if a child dies, the parents do name another child with the same name.

Thanks yes it makes the most sense except on his tombstone his birthdate is listed as 1797. Do you think that is a mistake? I think someone made an error on something just not sure what. There were Corrie's in maryland James and mary died in the early 1805/6 and wonder if this could have been there parents

The information I have on James White Corrie is as follows:
He was born in Scotland about 1802, died in Lawrenece County, Illinois 9 July, 1852. He married Arretta E. Peters 14 Nov 1821 in Pickaway County, Ohio. His father, William Corrie was born April 1766/67 in the Parish of Irongray, Scotland. He married Ann Dunwoodie in Borque, Scotland on 31 July, 1794. Hope this helps
Hi, Joyce,

I suspect that our Jonah's are related - perhaps cousins - as it is a fairly unusual name, and especially coming from the Cumberland area. The Corries seem to have originated from there. The surname Corrie has been handed down our family as a Christian name - My great aunt was Hannah Corrie Palmer.

If you find out anything about the Corries, would you let me know, please?

Happy hunting,

Anne

Hello Anne
Nice to hear from you.
I also found your Jonah on the LDS website, and I found that your Jonah died in 1856, in Cumberland, whereas my Jonah died in 1860, in Brixton London, at the age of 62. I have his death certificate. So unfortunately they are not the same person.
I am looking at the possibility, of a miss spelt way of spelling the family name of Corrie.I even visited Carlisle Record Office last year to check some of the parish registers. A friend and myself spent many hours trawling through the films in the library, but could not find any leads to progress the finding of the parish of where my Jonah was born. I live in Perth Western Australia, so it is quite a long journey to Cumberland, but I hope to visit again perhaps in 2009.
I wish you every success with your family tree.
Good Luck
Joyce Corrie
Hi, Joyce,

The Corries in my tree are born mainly in Bridekirk, cumberland. 'My' Jonah was born 20/04/1806.

In case this is any use to you, 'my' Jonah's parents were Henry 1770 and Ann Murgatroyd. Siblings were James 1788, Mary 1790, Henry 1794, Martha(gt gt gt granddmother)1795, Dinah 1797, John 1802, Jonah 1806 and Jonathan 1808.

I haven't followed the Corries down other than Martha. Most of the info above is from the IGI, and I haven't checked it further.

Nice to hear from a Corrie, Martha married a Palmer and that is the name down to my mother

I would be interested to know what info you have on the Corrries.

Best wishes

Anne

John Robert Corrie, born c.1862, was my great great grandfather. He was born in Lancashire and appears on 2 census after his marriage but none that I can find before.
He married Eliza Cullen and had four daughters and one son. His daughters were Elizabeth, Annie, Bearice and Ida (my great grandmother) and his son was named George.
My mother thinks that John's father was Scottish and family myth has it that his profession is listed as "gentleman" on John's birth certificate.
If anyone knows anything about this family I'd love to hear from you.

Abi
