Philadelphia Corrigans: Dia dhuit, ( hello or as they said God be with you)
We must be related as Fintona is a very small place. I took my father before he died and we found Corrigans and visited them. Visited a lovely old cemetery out in the country-Donacavey where my mother spied a grave of a Corrigan-may have been James-- from the early 1700's.
My dad's family was the from a Charles who had two wives. Bridget Campbell was the second and Joseph, my grandfather was the last of the brood. They all came to Philadelphia but there may be older children who stayed. (There was no Charles in the line so he may have stayed.) We had Thomas c. 1852, Elizabeth, James, Mary,Sarah, Rose, a glorious redhead I hear and Joseph 1871-1950. They were flax farmers. Thomas was killed by British solders one day as he took flax to market. Came home in a box that they were not permitted to open. Just buried. Sad but you can see why there were hard feelings on bother sides. But time to move on now. Contact me if you want any more information. And James must have been an important name . We have it in each generation since. Jo

Hi
Part ofmy family are Corrigans from Armagh, they too went to Scotland (Ayrshire)...wonder if there is any connection ? I do know they are related to Douglas 'Wrong Way' Corrigan of America. He flew solo from the US to Ireland, The reason they all left Ireland was most likely due to the Potato Famine which hit Armagh particularly hard.Hope this helps
Regards
jim Wilson
HI, Julie. I don't know what our relationship is but it is probably somewhat distant. My grandfather was Francis C. Corrigan of New Jersey. His father was Michael J. Corrigan 1851-1888 aand his parents were Patrick and Sarah Corrigan. Michael lived in Dublin from time to time but I don't know if he was born there. Let's keep in touch in case something comes up that will be of mutual assistance. Regards, Edmund Corrigan

My relationship is probably rather distant as I can trace my line back to Michael James Corrigan in Ireland born in 1851 whose parents were Patrick and Sarah Corrigan. So I guess that our common ancestor would have had to be before that. Do you know where your Corrigans originated? I know that Sir Dominic was from Dublin, and while Michael J. lived in Dublin from time to time I don't know if that is where the family originated. Keep in touch.
I stumbled across a post that you had made on RootsWeb regarding Corrigans in Clonavaddy.
I just found that is where my Corrigan relatives were from. Before that, I had only known it was Northern Ireland.
My 2nd great grandfather was John Corrigan. He was married to Anne (Hagan) Corrigan. They had the following children:
Bridget, Felix, John J (b. 1867), Hugh, Margaret, Francis Michael, and Nellie. (Many of these children emigrated at some point to Philadelphia, including mother Anne after she was widowed.)
Not sure whether this is a match to any of your Corrigans. I would love to learn more about John and Anne and where they came from.
Thanks,
Brian

Re: Corrigans from Quebec

Re. Lawrence Corrigan, from Wexford, Ireland, b. bet. 1783 and 1793 and d. July 1, 1869, buried St. Gabriel’s Catholic Cemetery, Valcartier Quebec. He was the son of John Corrigan, (spouse unknown). A 1851 census data suggest Lawrence was born in 1793 and this makes sense as his brother William was born 1796. Lawrence married Isabella Bonnali April 11, 1824 in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Quebec CA. Bonnali is one of several spellings. She was born in Scotland abt. 1806. They had 12 children, one of which was also named Lawrence b.1850, married Catherine McCartney 26 May, 1875. Six of the nine sons had children and three of the daughters had children. One daughter Marie Corrigan died at age 5 in 1848, no record of Anne and Catherine having children. My gggrandfather was William, brother of Lawrence. William married Margaret Brown b. Scotland 1808, their son Edward was my ggrandfather, marrying Mary Anastasia O’Brien (her family was from Shanagolden, Limerick), their son was my grandfather, Michael Francis Corrigan. William and Mary Anastasia settled in Granville, Wisconsin and then Edward settled in Seattle, Washington. John (x mark) Corrigan and William Bonnali witnessed the marriage of Lawrence and Isabella. Was this John the father of Lawrence and William? If so obviously he also emigrated to Quebec.

Sorry. There is no John Martin or Martin John Corrigan. I have a John F. Corrigan born 1887 in Brooklyn (Governor's Island) and his sister Mary E. Corrigan born 1890 Brooklyn. That's all of the info I have on them. KC, by any chance, do you have a surname of Hodgkiss in your family? I found a obit for a John F. and it mentioned he died at his cousins house by the name of Hodgkiss on Long Island.

Sorry I couldn't help you. If you need anything, please feel free to email me.

Barbara

Details are known of Richard (1886-1918 - K.I.A.
John Carrigan-Corrigan Alton IL 1930

Looking for family of:

John Carrigan/Corrigan?
Home in 1930: Alton, Madison, Illinois
Age: 41
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1889

John Carrigan, b. IL, both parents in IRL, is shown on the 1930 US Census as being married to a woman named 'Nona' (or perhaps Nora) who was born est. 1882 in IL to a father b. in ENG and a mother b. KY......The 1930 census indicates Nona/Nora was married for the first time at age 33, which would make the marriage estimated around 1915.

No children appear in 1930; just the three adults.

Living with John and Nona/Nora is a man, probably her father, William Turner (77), b. 1853 in England. He is shown to be the father-in-law to the head of household.

I have some information re. this family, but would like more, esp. about John's wife Nona/Nora and father-in-law William Turner, who lived with them in 1930. It is possible William Turner was from Greene County IL.

Jeanne
looking for info on John Corrigan & Margaret McDonald and Martin Malone & Margaret Sarkin from Ireland

John and Margaret (McDonald) Corrigan had a son named Peter Corrigan, born circa 1835. Other children's names are unknown. Peter had two sons (Peter and Jack) by his first wife (name unknown) and 10 with his second wife, Mary Malone. Peter came to the U.S. in 1861, married Mary Malone in 1867, and became a naturalized citizen in 1873.

Mary Malone's parents were Martin and Margaret (Sarkin) Malone. She was born circa 1841, and came to the U.S. in 1866. She had a sister named Delia Malone, who was about 16 years younger (born circa 1857) and was living with Mary and Peter in 1880 (per U.S. census) in Weston, Middlesex, Massachusetts. It looks like Delia may have moved later to New York.

Peter and Mary moved shortly thereafter to Lincoln, Massachusetts where they remained. Peter worked at the railroad crossing there.

On his citizenship papers, it says that Peter came from the County of Meath, Ireland, but the memoirs of a relative born in 1917 said that Peter Corrigan was from Wexford, Ireland, Leinstar County, and Mary Malone was from Athenry, Ireland, Galway County.

I am looking for info on Peter's siblings and first wife's name, and on his and Mary's ancestry in Ireland.

At the time Felix and Bridget were living in Jenkintown, PA with John J. Both Bridget and Felix were from Northern Ireland.

He had a brother John, who disapears from UK records around the same time and I cannot locate.
Any info would be good. They were the sons of Bridget McTigh and Patrick Corrigan who were born in Ireland and came to UK during the famine.

Hello,
Just a feel out for anyone who may have ties to this branch of Corrigans. I know my John Corrigan was born around 1858 in Armagh, Ireland and he married a Agnes Gilmore McBride (also from Ireland) they then popped their way over to Scotland, where they appear on the 1881 Scottish Census in Kinning Park, Glasgow. Here they had two children - Mary Ann and William. In late 1881 they made their way to Brisbane, Queensland, Australia where they went on to have 5 more children.

I would really like to try and find out more about their lives in Ireland. And why , they would have moved to Scotland.

If anyone can assist it would be GREATLY appreciated.

regards
Ky-Lee Hillery
Qld, Australia

Hi

I am not a member of ancestry.com. I have my tree on My Heritage site. Have you been able to confirm that Nathaniel who was married to Jane nee Montgomery was our relation? His father was Hugh and mother Margaret nee Keenan. I got this information from another web page but I thought our Nat was born about 1803 from the grave inscription. The index of Bounty Immigrants arrving in NSW records a Nathaniel and Jane (nee Montgomery) arriving in Aust 31/08/1841 and Nat was 30yo. This would make him born about 1811 so I am not sure if some of my information that I have recorded on my tree is correct. Also Jane age was recorded as 24 and if she died in 1900 aged 79 she could not have been 24 in 1841. I am confused. I know the information supplied at time of death may not have been accurate but would like to make sure I am following the correct line. Hope you can be of some help.
Thanks

Hi Sue, sorry this has taken so long to reply. Spoke to my Dad (danny corrigan) he could not recall Uncle Jimmy living in London although my mother who passed away in 1999 did if my memory serves me right. Dad was certain his son's name was also Jimmy (James) probably around age 60 now.
they lived in New Cumnock Scotland. Uncle Jimmy came to Australia in the very late 50's, as we arrived in Aust in 1960. Hope this helps and not a false lead for you. Dad also asked if you come from the Uk

Again hope it helps

Janice Corrigan
