I am trying to find out more about my great grandfather, Augustus Cosand. What I do know is that he was born near Hannover Germany in 1857 with the original last name of Wanneberg (or Winniberg sp?). He immigrated to the US as a young child and was shipped to the the midwest on one of the historic "Orphan Trains" of that period to be raised by farmers. He was met at a railroad siding in Center, IN and was adopted by Nixon and Rhoda Cosand who lived in Honey Creek Township in Howard County (near the present day town of Russiaville, IN). The earliest documentation I can find referencing Augustus is the 1870 US Census for Honey Creek Township Indiana showing Augustus at 12 years old living on the farm of Nixon and Rhoda Cosand under the name of Augustus Clarence Cosand (indicating the adoption was completed sometime between 1857 and 1870).

What I am hoping to find is any record of his immigration, adoption, the correct spelling of his original last name when born in Germany and any other information regarding him.
