Cosenza-Casenza-Cassens, Albanese: from New Orleans

I'm on the hunt for Italians whose family came from Cosenza-Italy and/or Sicily to New Orleans, LA. My great great grandfather, Luigi Cosenza aka Louis Cassens married Maria Albanese aka Mary Albanese. His anglicized name was not Luigi's doing: he was orphaned (I believe in-transit to America), and the French-German entity that took him (at the age of 8-10 yrs old) gave him the name Louis Cassens. Over the years (1880 on...), Luigi attempted to convey his name as Cosenza as well as his 8 children. The name was always written incorrectly: Cossenza, Cosenzo, Casenza, Casenzo, Cassin, Cassino, Cocenci, Cassine, Cossea, etc. One son, my great grandfather Francesco aka Frank, did not like the prejudice that came with being Italian - so he "adopted" the name Cassens. Luigi came to America between 1855-1860 and his wife, Maria Albanese came to America between 1868-1873. Luigi's approx dob: 1840-1845 (Cosenza, Italy), rip: May-1898 (New Orleans, LA). Maria's approx dob: April 1843-1849 (Sicily), rip: Mar-1922 (New Orleans, LA). Their eight children were: Rosa (aka Rose) b: Aug-1874, had one child out of wedlock, Maria Lacoste - her father was Honore Lacoste. Rosa married Antonino Vitale, 2 children. Angelo b: Dec-1877 married Josephine Castaing, no known children. Francesco (aka Frank) b: July-1879 married Agnes Ruby Wilhelmina Humphries, 10 children. Sarah b: Oct-1880 married Raffaele Vitale (brother of Antonino), 5 children. Pascal b: Jun-1882 married Maggie Ansel Cooke, no known children - Maggie's son, Ansel, was from first spouse. Lillian (aka Lilly, Carmella) b: Jan-1884 married Salvatore Garbo, 3 children. Guiseppe (aka Joseph) b: Oct-1885 married Daisy Moore, 1 child. Thomas Anthony (aka Tony) b: Apr-1889 married Marie Amoretti, 7 children.

My grandfather's name was Joseph Cosenza. He came from Positano, Italy way back when. When he came to the United States, he married a Rachel Avellino from Sorrento, Italy and had seven children. The only surviving one is my father, John Cosenza.

I saw your message when I was searching for information on my ancestry.

Hi Thereasa - I am looking for relatives also. The Joseph that I know of was the son of Beninia and Giacamo Cosenza. They had Joseph, Alex, Rose, Vichenza and Giovoninia and there was one more I think. The two youngest Vichenza and Giovoninia married Modern - Moderno Brothers. Rose Married a Marino. I do not know if this is your relation or not. It is mine, if anything is familiar lets talk.

John and Rose Cosenza?

My Mom's name is Mary and her maiden name is Cosenza. Her parents names were John and Rose and they lived in Bklyn, NY. My Mom was born 6-28-20 in Bklyn. Her Mom died during child birth. Her Dad John was a tailor and he remarried a woman named Teresa, but they called her Tessy. There were brother's and sister's, but I don't know their names. My Mom died 11 years ago.
Her Mom's(Rose) maiden name was Esposito. I remember my Great Grandmother did not speak much english.
I know my Mom had a half sister that came to see her before she died, but I lost contact with them. She came with her Mom Tessy. This was in Hallandale, FL where my Mom last lived.
My Mom's first husband was Peter Urgero. Second husband was Camillo Baldassarre and third husband was Frank Ammons who is my Dad.
ANy information that anyone would have about my Mom's family and brother's and sister's, etc would be appreciated.
