Cosseys of Suffolk, England

I am descended from the Cossey family of Earsham and Syleham. Villages in the Waveney Valley Suffolk. The family were descended from the De Contessy family that came to England at the time of the Norman conquest.Their occupations were mainly agricultural but later during a recession some branched out into other trades. Some settled in London to make their livings others remained in the Waveney valley I have yet to discover if any emigrated overseas.

After John and Susan was married in NC they moved to GA before going to Lawrence Co., TN. after John died, Susan and a couple of their children moved to Pope Co, AR where two of her sons had been for a while. Susan's brother is my direct line, and John (I believe)is a brother of Luke Cossey my direct line. He lived in Hardin Co, TN. Every generation has at least one or more boys named John. MY Luke,John,Hubbard,William plus others are believed to be brothers born in MD. Do you have any idea when the Cossey's came to America? There was a William Cossey in MD born about 1850, but I have my doubts about him being the father of the above listed Cosseys. All Cosseys in AMERICA ARE kin as far I can tell. "Uncle Vester" was my granddaddy John's half brother. My dad, Ray, visited a few times with him and enjoyed it immensely. I have met your grandfather Garlin's brother, also named Ray, from Hector.
Nice to meet you, cousin.
Alice

Cossey family in Oklahoma

Luke and Sarah are my GGG Grandparents. I was recently in Oklahoma visiting cemetaries and locating my relatives. I had read on the internet that Hubbard Cossey was buried in Moral Cemetary, however, not marked. Not true. He has an original head stone. I also found relatives in Mars Hill and Norman 100F Cemetary. There are fresh plastic flowers on certain gravesites and I would like to contact someone that visits these cemetaries.
Hi Pat,
It has been a year since I was at Moral Cemetary, however I think I remember seeing a Horace next to Hubbard. Did not know who his parents were. I was shocked to see a head stone for Hubbard because the internet said there wasn't one. My husband and I met a man at the cemetary who overlooked it. He pointed out Hubbards brother Luke G. Cossey's headstone and his wife Permelia J. Cossey. My email address is pdyrnbtq@aol.com if you would like to email me direct. Do you go to the cemetary often?
I also went to the Mars Hill and the 100F Norman Cemetary where Cossey's are buried.
Linda Springer

Searching all COSSEY names in the US. Willing to share what I have. I have a lot of "loose" Cossey names from the censuses and would like to tie them together as much as possible. Trying to trace all lines back to Maryland to the mid to late 1700's to find more on my ancestor Luke Cossey who was born about 1787 in Maryland and settled in Hardin Co., TN. Many of his descendants went on to AR and OK, then to TX. All other "old" Cossey lines seem to originate in MD also.

http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=cossey&I11.x=4...

Debbie Cossey Wasserburger
