Researching Costigan Line in Michigan

I am interested in communicating with anyone researching the line of Edmond (Edward)Costigan, presumably from "Dunmore, Kilkinney County, Ireland." Married Mary Hicky in Ireland then immigrated to the U.S. in 1849,living first in New York (Statton Island?), than later moving to Michigan, settling in Haslett, Ingham County. The children of Edmond and Mary are:

Edward b. 1852
Mary b. 1854
Ellen Elizabeth (Nellie) b. 1856
John Harvey b. 1860
Thomas b. 1862
James H. b. 1864
Willie b. 25 Oct 1868, d. 31 Jan 1869

Depending upon the document(s) being researched Edmond's birthdate ranged from 1822 to 1835 and Mary Hicky's birthdate ranged from 1826 to 1830. I am looking for their true birthdates and their parents names and localities in Ireland as well as any other information others may have about this Costigan family line.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Yes, I do have a good deal of information regarding the Costigan family. My great grandmother was Nellie (Costigan) Lavelle. Nellie had a brother named James who lived with her in Philadelphia for a time. My Costigan family originated from Danesfort, Kilkenny. They all came to Philadelphia in the early 1900s and settled in the region. Some Costigans are burried with my Lavelle family at Holy Cross Cemetary. Costigan's in Clonakenny, Tipperary, Ireland

I am researching my mothers (Agnes Costigan) side of my family tree. She was born in Clonakenny, Co Tipperary in January 1916 and had ten other siblings.
Her father (Michael Costigan) was the village blacksmith in Clonakenny, and he married a Johanna Mahon in February 1905. Johanna Mahon's parents were Michael Mahon and Mary Treacy.
Michael's father was Matthew Costigan, and he married Johanna Shea in October 1868. Johanna's father was Dennis Shea, but I don't know who her mother was.

Browsing this site I noted some interesting messages going back to 2001 which might be relevant to my search. Does anybody reading this recognise a thread or have any information which may help me.

Brother C Anthony was a Christrian Brother b. abt 1898 in Brooklyn?,NY.

He began work in 1920 at St. Vincent Industrial School in Utica, then St. Joseph's High School in West New York, New Jersey and also at St. Augustine's High School in Brooklyn and in De La Salle Institute in New York City as well as in other places. He died at De La Salle Hall, Lincroft, NJ, date unknown.

He had a sister named Agnes who served as a WAC during the war and a brother, Tom, who was a medical doctor. His uncle Tom was a longshoreman.

Parents from Ireland, possibly Queens (Laois), Tipperary or Kilkenny.

Brother C Anthony is believed to be a relative who visited family in Boston but connection unknown by this generation.

May be related to my Heffernan, Butler, Deegan or O'Toole branches.

Any information or suggestions appreciated.

Hi Vincent,Im Richard Costigan and am from Ireland.I just noticed you have a Peggy mentioned there and my ears pricked because I have a grandmother of the same name located in a place called Carrick on Suir in Tipperrary South and apparently a large contingent of us Costigans manifested ourselves there since the middle ages!That might be the place to start looking....happy hunting!!!

I am assuming your are from the McDonald line? I have quite a bit on them too - and the Dykes.

James Vincent Costigan born 5 Mar 1851 in Somerset, Perry, Ohio, son of Jacob and Cecelia Elder Costigan. He was married 1st to Anna T. Hoeny on 4 Feb 1873 in Effingham, IL. They had two sons, Joseph Warren and James William. Both men died young - no children. I have not been able to find a death date for Anna.
James married 2nd Mary Catherine McDonald, 23 June 1892 in Fort Wayne, IN.
They had two children: Thomas Shay Costigan, b 27 Aug 1898 and Margaret Cecelia b 12 Jun 1900, both in Fort Wayne, IN.

I came across a Costigan on the 1930 census so I thought I'd let you know about it just in case it's someone in your family.
Her name is Catherine Costigan, F, 65, widowed born in NY, parents both from Ireland. She was living at St Anne's Home for the Aged run by the Sisters of Charity at 148 Lembeck Avenue, ED 89 Page 1 at Ancestry.com.

I am searching for Costigans in Urbana, Ohio who were my gggrandparents. I believe their names were John and Ellen. They were born circa 1835 & 1839, respectively, in Ireland. Their daughter, Mary E.,age 6, as listed on the 1880 census, I believe to be my ggrandmother, but I have little proof. A Mary E. Costigan married Jesse Millner in abt. 1888 and their daughter, Florence Millner, was my grandmother. I know they were from Urbana. Yes, they had a son, Edward J. Costigan, but something is wrong with the dates I gave you because they don't fit together. They are from cemetery records at Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis.

Are you descended from Patrick J. Costigan (1838-1893) and his wife Harriet or "Hattie" (1851-1902)? They lived on the South side of Garfield Avenue in St. Louis, in a one-story frame dwelling. He was a painter. They had a son Edward (c. 1864-1933) and daughters Louisa Scanlon and Caroline.

I have a Denis Costigan arriving in Australia on the Enmore with his brother maybe? his name was Micheal he was 24 and Denis was 27.They arrived at port Phillip on the 4th of October 1841.They sailed from Cork.If this Denis is my rellie he married Charlotte French at Muswellbroork in 1867 and went on to have 7 children one beging my g grandmother.I am not 100% sure if he is and i cannot find a death for him.Maybe i have been some help hope so.If you would like anymore info i would be more than glad to help.

Lawrence Costigan b around 1800 Ireland

I am seeking information on Lawrence who was born between 1797 and 1804 in Ireland - I think from Queens County (though could be wrong on that). His wife was Bridget. They had 2 children, Lawrence 1824 and Elizabeth 1827 b in Ireland and then a number of children born in Yorkshire (Leeds area) - Hannah 1829, Daniel 1931, William 1833, John 1836, Margaret 1838 and Mary Anne 1840. I am descended from this family (John, 1836 who married Mary Bergan from Queens County), but have been unable to track down the ones from Ireland. Any connections out there?

I have brothers John and William Costigan who were railroaders in mid 19th century in NY state. John, born Moneygall, Offaly on Tipperary border 1839, started with Erie RR and later settled in Salamanca, Cattaraugus County, as a successful merchant, died 1910. Hi, You don't seem to have a first name. I am descended from Costigans who come from Kilkenny, too, although I believe they come from near Freshford. They emigrated to the US in about 1862. My great-grandfather was Patrick Joseph Costigan (born 1855). He had a brother named John and a sister named Mary. His father was Thomas and his mother was named Mary Tracy. Any help? Kelley

Any chance that there might be an Ellen Costigan in your family? I know she was born in New Foundland and married a William Armstrong. William was also from New Foundland. I have no information as to either of them coming to the U.S. though. They had a child Mary, born in 1900 in St. John's New Foundland.

Just wondering if you might have an Ellen Costigan in your family tree. Ellen married William Armstrong and had a child named Mary Isabelle born in 1900. Mary was born in Belle Isle/St John's, New Foundland. Not sure if there were any other children born to this family. Mary Isabelle married Patrick Leo French. Patrick was also born in St. John's New Foundland. Mary & Patrick settled in Brooklyn, NY. Any information would be helpful.

I am also looking for information on a John Costigan, Farmer, born circa 1800 in Tipperary Ireland, who married a Mary Donahoue (uncertain of spelling ? Donahue). This John was my gg grandfather. I know of only one child so far, my g grandfather Michael Joseph Costigan bor circa 1833 in Tipperary Ireland.
Michael came to Australia in 1864 with Mary and infant son John.

My gggrandfather was a John Costigan, born circa 1800 in ? Tipperary Ireland. He married a Mary Donahoue ? spelling. One of their children, was a Michael Joseph Costigan born ? 1833, who married a Mary Donoghue ? O'Donough (uncertain of spelling) on 16.11.1862 in Islington Greater London. They sailed to Australia and settled in Toowoomba Queensland and had 10 children, one of whom was a Mary Ellen, born 15.9.1874. However I know that Mary Ellen married and lived in Queensland so do not think our Costigan would be related to yours.

JF, my family lived about 5 miles from yours just over the border in the Lisdowney Parish of County Kilkenny. They left for the USA in 1852. My ggg grandfather was James and he married Bridget Dillon.

William Costigan, city attorney of South McAlester, died last week from the effects of an overdose of laudanum, which it is supposed he took to alleviate pain. He was found by his wife, but was too far gone for medical aid to avail anything.

Most likely Sallie was born in Madison, Indiana abt 1841. She married David J. Hinckley on Dec. 25th 1861 in Marion County. By 1866 she is either buried at Crown Hill Cemetery or was a reburial from the defunct "Old" City Cemetery. Theodore Costigan/ Civil War private 1864 from Indianapolis

Just curious if anyone has done research abt Theodore Costigan son of Francis and Elizabeth Costigan born in Madison, IN and died abt 1888 in Indianapolis at abt age 43. I also see he was married from the 1880 Census but not sure to whom or if he had any children. Also if there was an obit for him or if anyone would know where he is buried, I would be appreciative.
