HI- I been working on the Costello and costilow family for 15 years or more, but I have stop for the past years. I did see the Teter family in my research and yes, we are part Indian and Irish. They came to Virginia in middle 1700's and Married into the Mattaponi Tribe of King William county, virginia. All my research material is stored in many boxes, but if you could give me Elizabeth parents and grandparents, I could look for them and provide you copies. Just a quick note. I have proof that James Andrew Costilow (born 25 Dec 1833), who was the husband of Martha A. Miller. James Andrew was NOT the son of Christopher Costilow and Mary Reeder. Christopher Costilow and Mary Reeder's son James A. Costilow (born 10 Nov 1831), was the husband of an Eliza Robinson. They were married in Harrison County, Virginia on 17 Nov 1859.

As far as I know, my James Andrew Costilow (husband of Martha A. Miller) and his family was NOT from West Virginia or Virginia.

I just found out that my Grandmothers Maiden name maybe Costilow. She was Tarinda / Tirinda Costilow b. 1830 in MS. and she married Willis Wright. I found them in Carroll Parish, Louisiana in 1850. They had 4 children and Willis died before 1860. Tarinda married Thomas Pace. One of the children of Willis and Tarinda was Sarah J. Wright. She is my Grandmother.

I'm looking for the sources used for the family information of James A. Costilow and Martha A. Miller. I mean in regards to their birth and marriage dates (married on 25 Jul 1855)... and where these things occured? What proof and documents do we have connecting our James A. Costilow to Christopher and Mary (Reeder) Costilow in Harrison/Barbour, WV?

All records I find point my James A. Costilow's birthdate as 1833. Census records for Christopher's household points his son James A.'s birthdate as in 1831. I just found a marriage record yesterday for a James A. Costilow married to an Eliza Robinson in Harrison Co, WV on 17 Nov 1859. It lists James A. as the son of Christopher and Mary Costilow and born in 1831.

How could James A. Costilow have had two wives at the same time? I think we might be dealing with two completely different James A. Costilow's. PLEASE get back to me on the sources for these events, or let me know who I can get in contact with. We have some definite ancestry issues for our James A. Costilow. Thanks.

I have James Andrew Jackson md to Martha A. Miller in 1855. It appears that all eleven of James' children were with Martha A. Miller and were born, lived and died in various locations in Mississippi. Do you want details?

Looking for any family information regarding Elizabeth Costilow, who married John Teter in Lewis Co. WV. I am the great-granddaughter of their daughter, Delphia Teter (b. Aug 1883 & d. Oct 1966), who married Peter Layfield Osborn, also of Lewis County, WV. Specifically, it has been passed on to me from "the old folks" of the area they lived in that Delphia was part Native American (tribe unknown). Searching for parents or siblings of John H. Costiloe who was born about 1817 in TN according to Census records. He was in Winston Co. MS in 1843 where he married Susan Emily Wragg. John died while serving in the Confederate Army at Vicksburg MS in 1863.

I am looking for my g.g. grandmother Ada Costilow(b.late 1800's or early 1900's) history & family.All I know she was born in W.Virginia & married Harold DeRoads from Ohio.They lived in Salem,(Columbiana County),Oh.They had 2 sons & 3 daughters.One daughter was my grandma Eleanor Melvina(b.8-22-1922)& she married Edward McQuiston.(Both are deceased now) as well of my grandmothers siblings,Harold Jr., Ray,Mary, & Ester.

Many thanks! I discovered this marriage in our library in the Doddridge County Marriages book last year. I hope it's my GGGGrandmother and her second husband. At least, all indications are that it's the right woman. She's listed as a widow with two children at the time, so the stats match.

Found in an old ledger book of my Grandmother:
recorded in the courthouse of West Union Doddridge Co. W. Va. died Dec 18, 1866 from James Costilow to Wm A Costilow, 264 1/2 acres Grant District, Flint Run -- deed book 6, pg. 247.
This is probably the James costilow married to Mary Hudkins as she is living alone in 1870 next to her dau Harriet.

Mary Elizabeth Costilow Spencer was the great-great-grandmother of my brother-in-law. I'm doing research on his family from West Union, Doddridge County, WV for him. His great-grandmother was Goldie Spencer, through her son Cecil Allen. You can find Cecil in the census living with Snoden Spencer. Do you have anything on the Spencers farther back than Snoden?? I have some things. Let me know. I know it's been a while since some of your messages were left here so I hope you are still online. Is it true that the original Costlow clan assuming there ever was one , began in ancient celtic Ireland before Christianity dominated Ireland? I found a web page about a year ago and it offered services just like ancestry.com and I read some stuff that seemed to imply that. I don't have the web address of that web page any more, but it really doesn't matter anyways , the last time I went on the page it had went defunct and out of service. well thanks for your time I'll hope to hear from you.

Hello. I read several of your postings regarding the Costilow family and hope you can help me out. I'm doing a favor for a friend in trying to get together some family information. His Grandmother was Ruth Costilow Rose, daughter of (I think) Walter Costilow. I found them on the 1900 Montgomery Co. MS census but have had little luck with anything else. Here's some more info about GGgmother Costilow. Her full name is Clara Jane Blair Nutter Costilow. She was born in Ohio, and her parents' names are David Blair and Isabelle Thomas. I don't know where she was married for either husband; I'm still digging. I do know her first marriage to George F. Nutter isn't listed in the Ritchie County, WV marriages anywhere; she is buried in the same cemetery as George, though, under Costilow, her second husband's name.

Dave, I believe your Sushanna Jane Costilow is the second wife of John Kinney. According to my data, Sushanna's first husband ? Finley died and she married John Kinney aft. 1871. I don't have any children listed for John Kinney and Sushanna. I believe Sushanna's brother was Joseph Costilow husband of Melinda Sandy. Some of the Costilows, Sandys & Kinneys go back to Greene County, PA.
Joseph Costilow and Melinda Sandy Costilow are the gr-gr-gr-grandparents of my brother-in-law. I'm doing research on his family along with mine. We are related by marriage but might be related by blood too.

I have tried to e-mail you a couple of times but have'nt gotten a reply. Hope this gets thur. My father was Clarence James Costlow. He and his Sister, Clara Mae, were born James' but their mother gave them away to Henry & Henrietta Chapman Costlow in late 1920 or early 1921. We don't know what happened to his father as he was already out of the picture. Aunt Clara believes that her daddy's name was Arthur James. We know for sure that their grandfather was Benjamin James who had a son named Michael that was my father's uncle. Clarence James Costlow born 11-15-1916, Clara Mae Costlow born 4-27-1919. With the similarities in pronunciation. Thought there might be a connection. Our earliest Costlow is Joseph found in Rives, later Henry County, in Missouri in 1830. Wife Nancy, last name unknown. Later the Costlows are in Stone County, among the children are Edward Costlow. Civil war veteran.

Looking for information about Nicklo and Anna Domitrovich of West Virginia (Clarksburgh). Anna was from Austria and is listed in the Ellis Island Immigrant records. Nicklo was a policeman I belive in Austria. I remember a mention of parents Susan Vanick and Fred Domitrovich. Nicklo and Anna settled in West Virginia and are buried at the Holy Cross Cementary in Clarksburgh. They had many children......Joseph Domitrovich, Rudy Domitrovich, Lena, Annie, Carl, Bill, etc. Joseph Domitrovich married Virgie (Virginia) Mackey also of West Virginia, They later moved to Pennaylvania, and they are my grandparents.

I am looking for information about Malinda Costilow born 1824 - 1825. Mary Costilow born approx 1861. Froina Costilow born 189? and Eva Belle Costilow born 1895 from Barbour County West Virginia. Malinda was the grandmother, she was the mother of three children, Mary was her daughter, and Eva and Friona were Mary's children. Friona married George Goldsbourgh in West Virginia and Eva married Martin Mackey in West Virginia.
