Do have that family in the Cote Genealogy Books p. 649. Addi tional family members that are listed in the books are: Leontine, Josephine b. 1888 d. 1977; Delvina b. 1891; Alfred b. 1894; Eugene b. 1896. Have all their spouses with marriage dates & places for the above & some death dates. I might have additional info home. Will be home on the 8th. Have the complete lineage on to our first common ancestor.

They are the parents of Caroline Cote who married Louis Lupien
at St. Pierre Sorel on Jan 7-1857. Also have another sibling of Caroline is Henri Cote who married Victoire Grenier at St. Ours, PQ Jan 23-1871.
As for the parents - Henry (h/o Marie Vien) as this was his first marriage. Has a second marriage to Catherine Pike-Pyke in 1852 for which I presently have 3 children listed in the Cote Genealogy books page 534 & continues the lineage further on page 759.

If this is the same man (and I think it is) then can you tell me the names, number of family members, year he left, etc of the family that he abandoned in Canada?
Thanks so much for the info. My neighbor continues to research (or, more truthfully, I do for her). Here's a bit of a tidbit you may or may not know. Take it for what it's worth.

Carolyn C. Lupien (b. about 1859) married this Jean Peter Menard (He seems to have changed his name several times going by Pierre Menard, John Peter Menard and a couple others). Anyway, another link shows that he was married in Canada, and abandoned his family at some point. He then came to America and married Carolyn Lupien. They seemed to have lived on the East Coast for some years and then moved to Stillwater, MN (my town). Jean Peter (Pierre) and Carolyn had 6 children... he again abandoned this family.
Carolyn got the kids raised eventually but ended up living and dying at the Little Sisters of the Poor who had taken her in. (I think that was in St. Paul, MN)

My neighbor is 80 and remembers family members sort of whispering about this bloke and the plight he left Carolyn in. If you find any more info on him or his first family in Canada, would be really appreciative if you'd let me know. Thanks again.

The Caroline that married Jean Peter Miner is my neighbors aunt or great aunt. Anyway I'm trying to help her with her genealogy and also can share a little bit of family history. Let me know if you are still interested.

I am looking for information on Louis Cote, b. 10 Apr 1853 in Quebec, m. Mevina Beland 21 Apr 1874 St. Guillaume, Upton, Quebec. His parents were Antoine Cote and Rosalie Gauthier, who were m. 23 Oct 1833 St Francois-Du-Lac, Quebec. Louis's daughter, Elmire Agnes Amie (not sure which is her actual name, as all 3 have appeared on records), was b. 20 Oct 1877 in St. Dionne, Quebec, and by 5 years old was living in Vermont. This gives me reason to believe that Louis may have died in Vermont.

I would like any information about Louis/Antoine. I am particularly looking into a possible Native American connection.

I appreciate any help.

Hello Allyson

My name is Mary Cote. My father was Lucien Cote, he passed away in 1964. His family were from Montreal, Saint Cyrille de Wendover and Drummondville, Quebec. My grandfather was Ernest Cote and his brother was Wilfred Cote. Their father had a brother named Wilfred Cote if I am correct. When my father passed away we lost all contact with our relatives in Quebec, as we moved and my mother didn't speak french.
I know we have a lot of relatives in the area as my mother said she had visited them with my father, and his brothers in 1948, the 1950's, and the 1960's. before my father passed away.

I am a distant relative of Jean Cote who married Ann Martin

Please email me at mcltcote@gmail.com.

I have received a lot of information from a distant cousin
Richard, and Ldubecote.

Regards
M Cote

A Cote relative

Have a few listed in the Cote Genealogy Books. Who did Leda marry, when & where? Who did Yvonne marry, when & where?
Have another son that you have not listed named Eugene who was baptized Jan-6-1896 at St. Cazetan, PQ. He first married Elizabeth Michaud at Waterville, ME Oct-18-1836 and his second marriage to Elsie Elise Beaulieu-Fisher in Waterville, ME Mar-25-1951. Could Eugenie that you mentioned by the same person as Eugene. Eugenie is definitely a female name. Could that be an error? Have the spouses for Leontine, Josephine, Delvina, & Alfred only. Missing the rest for the spouses, marriage dates & places. Any further info is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Laura,

It's been a while since you posted this so you may have already found this info, but if not...

Leda Cote, the 7th child, was my great-grandmother. Here's a list of what I've found so far for the 12 children of Joseph Cote and Domitilde Mercier. The birth dates were pulled off of census information, but I suspect some of the years are just a little off in some cases. Hope this helps!

Josephine Coté
1888 – 1977
------------
Delvina Cote
1891 –
------------
Olidia Cote
1893 –
------------
Alfred Coté
1894 – 1964
------------
Aureliè Coté
1895 – 1972
------------
Eugène Coté
1897 –
------------
Leda Coté
1897 – 1965
------------
Laudia (Lodia) Coté
1899 –
------------
Léontine Coté
1899 – 1973
------------
Maria Cote
1902 –
------------
Emma Cote
1903 –
------------
Yvonne Cote
1908 –
Thank you so much! Can you provide what you mention is listed for Edouard and Alexina's 3 children with spouses and marriage dates? I can ask my girlfriends family (Shes the Cote) about possible names and dates on some, but was only able to get the names at this time. The Gerard Donald I mentioned is not the sibling of Paul Emile Coye but one of his children. I have no info on the Gerard brother of Paul Emile Cote at this time.

Jeanne D'Arc m.
Bingo!! Have it all in my Cote Genealogy books (5 volume set of over 2000 pages & 1200 pics). On page 1142 of my books is listed Edouard Joseph Cote married to Alexina Cadrin at Notre Dame de Quebec June-9-1914. Listed as a child is Paul Emile Cote married to Fernande Jean at Lewiston, ME Aug-7-1948. I had Paul Emile born Mar-13-1920 Limoilou, P.Q. while your stats says the 12th. Total of 3 children listed for Edouard with spouses, marriage dates & places. Could have more on my cards back home. Just have the books with me here. You made the connection. I have all the rest traced to our first common ancestor with brothers & sisters, birth dates & places, death dates & places, marriage dates & places, etc. The books are done by generations. Always around your ancestor, you will notice his or her brothers & sisters with their spouses, then first cousins, etc. The pattern is like that all the way through. Truly a masterpiece collection. If I can further assist you, please let me know.
Have Paul Emile's sister listed on page 1508 with her husband and kids.

Thanks for your response. Fernande is correct and and her parents are Auguste A Jean and Alma Veuilleux. As far as Paul I have been told the parents were Edward Cote and Alexine Cadrain but I could never find any records of Edward. I think all four families came here from Quebec between 1900 and 1918. All of the children from Paul and Fern are living except Gerard Donald.

FOUND HIM! HA! :) I love a good mystery...
Here's the deal...

I started looking for him in census records and found he and "Clodia" living in/near St-Pierre-Baptiste in 1891 and 1901 records. In 1891 his birth date is 1863, in 1901 it's 1861. That's cool. On the 1901 record, it says his birth date is 6 July 1861.

Next I started on the Catholic parish records for a date of birth matching his in an area near St-Pierre-Baptiste, Ste Sophia or Ste Marie (a town that some in St-Pierre-Baptiste were from), for if your story is true......that he found a confessed aunt in St-Pierre-Baptiste later after moving to Ste-Sophia, than that is too much of a coincidence unless he knew his family was somehow connected to that area. Perhaps even his father living there? Well, I found his baptism record! Sure enough, 6 July 1862! I'm attaching the records for you to this reply. The record translates roughly to:

"The six of July, one thousand eight hundred sixty and one, we, undersigned priests, baptise Pierre, born the day before yesterday (note: July 4th) to the legally married Francois Cote and Christine ________ (not sure the last name, perhaps Lancaster?, I'm sure someone else can make sense of it) residents of this parish. Sponsor (Godfather): Pierre Cote; sponsor (Godmother): Adele Beauelain (sp). None signed."

Like I said, the translation is rough, but is very close. The Godfather mentioned is likely your Pierre's grandfather or uncle. Adele is his wife or some other close relative.

With this information, going back further should be a cinch.

Hi -
This is a long shot. My Father's name is Thomas A Cote, he had three brothers (one named Paul, the others I don't know). They would all be @80 now if alive. His father is James Cote, and I *believe* HIS Father was Wilfred Cote from Quebec. I know I have family out there, but I have had bad luck finding folks.
I also have been told there's Indian blood in the family. Whether this is actually true -I don't know, so I am working to find that out. If there's anyone out there who might be a connection I'd love to hear from you!
Thanks,Allyson C

Re: Charles Cote/Cota from Clinton County, New York

Hi :) I am also on the hunt for the elusive Charles Cote/Cota. His daughter, Helene Cote Robarge (we have always spelled it as Robarge, since the recent family records are spelled that way, but it looks like it was originally Roberge), is my 3rd Great Grandmother, making him my 4th Great Grandfather. So Karen, we are cousins :) His burial appears to be at St. Patrick's Cemetery,Chateaugay, Franklin County, New York.
I have found him in the census records from 1850-1880, yet he is not on the US or Canadian Census records for 1830/31 or 1840/41. If he was born around 1820, he should be on both the 1830/31 and 1840/41 census records somewhere. The 1830/31 would tell who Charles' parents were. Possibly the 1840/41, if he was still living at home.
It is odd that no Birth, Baptismal, or Marriage certificate can be found anywhere thus far. There does not appear to be an obituary for him either.
I have wondered if he came from Native American ancestors, hence the lack of records. However, he was buried with a High Mass, meaning that he was baptized as a Catholic at some point in his life.
Also, Charles does not appear to be buried with his wife, Marie Olive Lalue dit Lamontagne. She is buried at St. Mary's Cemetery, Potsdam, NY. I find that odd, unless they separated. they would not have divorced as the Church would not have allowed that to occur.
There are a few things that do not seem to add up. If anyone has any information, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thank you!
Christine

Narcisse Cote is my GGgrandfather.. His daughter Orese with other spellings, married Julius Dube. Their oldest child is Edward Joseph born 1893 and is my grandfather.. Would love to have more info on the Cote. I was born in Kankakee but left when I was 5. But still have connections there.
Hi Linda:

Very interesting, thank you. This account has Abraham, Antoine, Galleran, and Anne as siblings, with Anne possibly a "baby sister." Can you tell us what parts of this account resulted from your cousin's research at Montagne-en-Perche?

As for the idea that Anne was Abraham's sister. This was advanced in 1962 by Roland Auger, former director of the Service de généalogie des Archives nationales du Québec. This is related with no details at page 76, Chapter 6, "Jean Côté," of Volume VI, "Our French-Canadian Ancestors" (1988) by Thomas J. Laforest, a translation from the original French "Nos Ancêtres" (1983) by Jacques Saintonge.

You question Anne being in this list as related to her birth year. Some writers say she was born in 1603. Other writers say she was about age 70 upon death on 4 December 1684, making the birth year about 1614.

Yeah, those parents are definitely in error per Tanguay. In looking at this more closely, something is still fishy.
Here is what I found: Jean Martin married Isabelle Cote at St. Xiste de Camplong, Languedoc, Montpellier, FR in 1588 (also found 1585). He was b. Xiste, Montpellier, FR in 1563 (found also 51 which is wrong). s/o Cergues Martin & Jeannette ? who married in France Jan-8-1560. Isabelle b. Larochelle, FR 1567 or 64 (even found 1570 in Xiste, Montepellier, Herault, FR). Their children:
Abraham Martin dit L'Ecossais (Plains of Abraham named after him in Quebec) 1m. Guillaumette Couillard in FR @1610. She was b. @1590. His second marriage to Marguerite Langlois at Quebec Oct-24-1620. He died Sep-8-1664 Quebec at 75 yrs.
2. Antoine Martin dit Montpellier dit Beaulieu m. Marie Denyse Sevestre at Quebec Jun-18-1646
He died May-11-1659 Quebec.
3. Galleran Martin died Oct-27-1662 and buried in Beauport, PQ.
4. Anne Martin m. Jean Cote (you have the stats) but I'm still questioning it as she was born in 1614 France.
Most of the info was compiled by my cousin Rejeanne (Cote) Touzot who lives in Paris, FR. She and her brother Normand & spouses went to Montagne-en-Perche and the books are written in the old French language. There was one priest who could read it and took notes. So that's all that I have. I had also seen this somewhere else but don't have a copy of it.
