I am the g. g. granddaughter of A. J. Sr and his second wife, Lavica Jane Vann (daughter of Jane Shaw and Mason M Vann). Mason Vann was full-blood Cherokee from SC. He was dismissed from Texas Republic Army in 1832 and was described as 6 ft, black hair and blue eyes - traits that are clearly visible in my father.
AJ Sr. and Lavica's daughter, Mary Lavisa, married Andrew Jackson Riley, Sr. (son of Alfred Barry Riley and Talitha Gatliff...) and had 10 kids > Levi, Letha (from Talitha), Willey, Sidney, Carrie, Andrew Leonard, Joseph, Chessie, Charles, and Virgil.
Andrew Leonard Riley married Thelma Guest and had 10 kids, including my father, John Howard Riley.
There are several Rileys and Cothern descendants who live in Southeastern OK and are actively researching family history now in pursuit of Cherokee info.
Bessie Mamie might very well have Native American heritage, as AJ Sr married a Cherokee before marrying Bessie's mother, so was not put off by the stigma of the time.
