Cotter from Carrigtwohill, Cork
(#722) Our Cotters located in central Connecticut, USA about 1852. They lived and worked near the quarries in Portland, Cromwell and Middletown. St. John's Church in Middletown numbered Irish from nearly all the counties but mostly from Cork. The Civil War bonus money financed farms for the veterans. They sent their children to school and the next generation were factory workers and clerks. The early Cotters here were named William, James, John, Thomas, and Nicholas; Johanna, Hanora, Mary, Ellen and Margaret. Most are buried in St John Cemetery. A couple of us are still around and would like to hear from anybody. I can do some legwork if anyone is interested in this area. Regards.
