Hello. I did some looking in all these papers and found a obit for Lucy McClean. It lists her daughter Theodosia Cotter. So yes any info you can share will be appreciated.

I keep plugging away at this and when I get my Ripp book published I plan to get a McClean one together. I need to get all this info on my computer. I have old history about the family if you are interested.

Several years ago I attended a McClean reunion in Wittenberg. I have not been able to attend since then. Many of the people there were elderly. judy

Thank you. We have so many missing pieces in the McClean puzzel. Will you share with me? Would you know by any chance if the boys were in the service. I have a picture of a family with 3 boys in different service uniforms and on the back it states cousins, mom, from Thorp. One in the picture has a navy uniform on. There is the parents and another women. If so then that has to be them. In my grandfathers (John McClean) obit it stated Mr. Mrs. Jim Cotter from Thorp were at his funeral. my email is mnjripp@ticon.net Judy

The reason I was looking is because they had a daughter, Hattie Cotter who married Dorwin Coy and connected my Cotter and Yeakley family's (my mothers) with my fathers family, the Schnepps. my email address is idigcemeterys@msn.com.
(This is a duplication of an email I sent to your address given in another post - I am doubling my effort to reach you as your post is dated some eight years ago.) Dear Jill, in 2002 you posted a message on Ancestry.com's message board describing your great grandfather William Cotter and his family. I believe our great grandfather's were brothers. My great grandfather was Nicholas Cotter of Knockane, Brosna. My grandparents are Dave Leahy and Nellie Cotter who you describe in your post. I was in Brosna last week and visited at Knockane with our cousin Dennis Lane who is the farmer and owner of the land. His mother and my mother are friends. I hope this reaches you.
Hi cousin: My great great grandfather was Joseph W. Penn. Amelia married Joseph R. Penn, 18 July 1872 by Rev. James Kerr of the Presbyterian church in Cadiz. She died in Cadiz Junction 23 September 1889 of Typhoid Fever at the age of 36.
I'm still in search of more information. I can't find her family anywhere. The Presbyterian records are hard to find. My next step is the Mormon library.
Cousin Ed
Re: Nicholas Cotter ,Wyandotte Indian Ancestry

Francis Cotter Tahatonne, Bear Clan sachem Astawenserontha family, was an Upper Mohawk. Brother Nicholas Cotter, mother Margaret Hill. The family sold their property in the Mohawk Village and left the Grand River April 1817 (a first cousin of my ancestor took over the sachemship at this time). Cotter was an Uppper Mohawk. Indian Affairs RG10 Series and Claus Papers MG19 (Archives of Canada) tell much of the story of the Cotters on the Grand River. The documents also say that he went to "Detroit" (i.e., Amherstburg and was still alive in 1835) and from that point (1816)he became a Wyandot (his mother appears to have had Huron connections, Beaver Clan / Tribe from Canajoharie in the Mohawk Valley).

Perhaps we can share information about the Cotters.

David K. They emigrated to Canada (Essex County, Ontario), and had the following children : Mary E. Cotter, William James Cotter, and Florence Catherine Cotter, also known as "Margaret". My Grandfather and all of his brothers and sister all ended up in different suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, except for one brother who stayed in Windsor, Ontario.

Thank you.  I figured the names attached were too coincidental.  :-}

By the way, don't know if you noticed or not but I took it a step further and marked my Cotter trees as private with nothing showing up on the searches. Really sorry about my previous error and any inconvenience it caused you.

Questions: (You can send the answers to coloknight@comcast.net for privacy if you want.)

Anyway,do you know what happened to Fermay's husband George Sullivan? I have a possible death in Massachusetts January 1965 and haven't found a burial in Michigan for him. Did they divorce or separate? Did he die in Massachusetts?

Also, Cassie's father Farquhar G. McRae? He's listed on Catherine Keane's tombstone as her husband but he's a stone wall for me. I can't find him with Catherine. You'd think that, with a name like Farquhar he'd be easy to track and I've tracked a few but can't connect them.

Another one. Did Cassie have a sister who married a Reid? I have a nephew, Raymond Reid living with her but can't track his parents.

I've also had trouble tracing Cassie's son Frank Jeremiah. I know he married a woman named Catherine and they had two children but I can't track him. I'm wondering if he moved to Ontario.

One last one. Fermay's son George James. I have him married to a Lorraine Wygoskie but can't track him.

I know those are a lot of question and not exactly related to your line but I was wondering if you remember hearing anything from Cassie or Fermay.

By the way, hope the holidays were good to you.

Yours,
Chris

Could Erma possibly have been the widow of Adrian George Mickey Cotter? He was the son of Adrian George Cotter and Ann Victoria Murray. He was born 06 Jan 1925 and I believe he died in Zephyrhills, Pasco, Florida on 19 Aug 2002.

I ask because I have him married to a Gyetvai and because of the names of her children. It seems too much of a coinicidence that there's no connection.

I know that your posting is more than two years old but I'm hoping you're still out there.

He married Mary Martha Goggin in 1882 in Chicago.
Any information would be appreciated.
Bobbie

Re: cotter family

hi. My name is Tom Lane from Peoria, IL. I'm the grandson of the recently deceased Harold Max Cotter of Mackinaw, IL who was Otis Cotter's son (of Leota or Moody, I can't remember which). I recently became interested in learning about our family history. Specifically during the Civil War. I seem to recall as a child, my grandfather telling me about a relative of his serving in the Union Army during the war. I want to find out if it was just my imagination or if that was really true. I found a long list of birth/death info at www.genealogyforum.com (http://www.genealogyforum.com/gedcom/gedcom3a/gedr3032.ged)t... might indicate Abner Cotter was a relation and there's an Abner Cotter listed at the Civil War Soldiers & Sailors System search (http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/Personz_Search1.cfm) who served as a private with Capt. Abernathy's Co., Greene County Reg't., Missouri Home Guard, Company C

Do you know if this might be the same Abner Cotter and what relation (if any) he might be to us? There are several Cotters & Vaughns listed from Missouri & Iowa on that website, but unfortunately there's not much geneological information. Do you know of any relation we may have to any of them? Or any who may be relation to the Vaughns?

my email address is peoriashows@hotmail.com if you want to talk through e-mail.

thanks

Thanks for that info.
I have no information really about my great grandfather's family, except they came from Goulanse, a small townland 6 or 7 miles east of Bantry.
I am attaching a photo of him with some of his children - you may spot some family likeness!
He would have been born about 1850.

Cotter, Mallow, Co.Cork

Hi,
The mother of my late husband was Helen/Ellen/Nellie Cotter. She died, in England, of huntington's disease over 20 years ago. I am trying to trace her family (I think her mother had HD, but I've no idea of her name). In a small town such as Mallow, I'm hoping someone will be able to help me out!

My husband was James Jeffrey Long (1957-2006). His father was James Long, born in Mallow - I think in the 1930's. Sorry so vague, but it's all I have!

Thanks!

Re: Cotter from Carrigtwohill, Cork

My grandfather was John Jeremiah Cotter from the Cork but don't know much more than that. His father was Jeremiah and his mother Ellen Connelly/Connolly.
He had sisters named Jane and Maggie and a few more. His brother Will died at a young age after his arrival here. They all settled on farms in northern Ilinois near a town called Tiskilwa. He married Ellen,(Nellie) Aherne, She had come over from Bantry with her sister Maggie and lived and worked in Boston. My grandparents had known each other in Ireland. My grandmother lived around Bantry, I have heard Balleylickey and Pearsons Bridge. Does anyone know anything about this branch of the Cotters?

Family of William H Cotter in New York state

I am looking for any info on the family of William H Cotter in the New York state area. I have reached a dead end with William H Cotter born around 1824 in Oneida County, NY. He was married to Emmarilda Harrington and they settles in Oxford Iowa. Specifically I am looking for any info on the parents of WHC. His census info from 1860 lists his parents as born in NY, but does not list their names as he was not living with them and he does not appear on any census before 1860. If anybody has any links to birth records from the 1820's that would be great, I can't find any older than the 1860's. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, I see that I am about 15 months behind your posting and I do hope that you have not changed your email address. I am from the Cotter family too. I have some information but I am sure it most likely will not be correct. I have Hattie Cotter b. 20 August 1888 and died in 1970. As for William, he signed up for the World War I draft with the spelling of his name as being William Shird Sartin. His draft card states his birth as 21 May 1878 in Missouri. Names Hattie as his wife.

So I am pretty sure that her name was Hattie as there were three more Hatties in the family.

I am really interested in your information and would love toexchange with you.

So, if you are still interested, please post here and we can
try to connect.

Linda
