He was my great grandfather and married Ellen Guise in Cropthorne in 1853.Isaac's father is listed in the marriage certificate as Isaac but other records suggest that his parents were William and Elizabeth.

Ellen's father was Thomas Guise (a labourer) and her mother was Sarah Roberts.

Hi Marge,

I am a descendant of Daniel Jr, his son Richard is my GG Grandfather. My second cousin has completed a quite comprehensive family tree. I have a photo of Richard and also some of his later family if you are interested. Daniel Jr's gravesite is about 5 minutes from where I live, at East Maitland cemetery if you would like me to send you photos. He is buried there with both his first and second wives, and also a memorial to his son who died in WW1.

Kind regards
Jenny Walsh.

Names sound familiar. County is right for possibly some ties. Just noticed who this is from. We have talked many times before and I believe you have much more info than you did when started 7 years ago.

I did just come back from a library in Wooster, Ohio that has shelves of books dealing with just W.Va. and Va. genealogy. I have copied out of a few books the marriage information on primarily two counties ( Calhoun and Roane)a few pages from Monghalia County. I probably should have copied Marion. If I saw a METZ, PRICE, STARCHER, EPLING, NICHOLS and CARPENTER surname on a page I copied it. Thought I would tie it in later over the year of looking at it.
Deborah M.A.

I don't know if you'll see this as the original post was made so long ago!

I am descended from Cotterills who originated in Congleton in Cheshire, but moved to Lowton in Lancashire sometime before the 1890's. My great grandmother was a Cotterill - Clara Cotterill born abt 1895 in Lowton, Lancashire. I haven't been able to expand on the Lowton Cotterills in a downwards direction, only back up the tree and would love to fill in some gaps. My great grandmother had 3 brothers and 3 sisters, so there must be lots of family out there!

Would love any information anyone could help me with!

Thanks
Sue

My line is as follows. Father Henry Alfred Cotterrill born 1912 died 1979. His Father Louis Henry Cotterrill born 1885 died unknown. His Father William Richard Cotterrill born 1855 died unknown. His Father John Cotterrill born 1821 Bardon Staffs. I seem to have come to a dead end as you have with John and his wife Caroline, so I will send today for a birth cert for him and see what that brings forth. I will pass on anything that may be useful to you in duw course. OK Cheers Alan

Thank you for your message. We have now discovered that our ancestors spelt the name as COTTRELL, so have been following that up. They changed it to our spelling around 1890. So I don't think the sheep farmers are anything to do with our line.

I too have a Gt Gt Grandfather named John Cotterrill married Caroline and had three boys Charles 1847, Henry 1860, and William Richard 1855 whom I am descended from. It was a surprise to see he was from Staffordshire although living in London as from then the living location is East London, mainly Bow, where I originated from. I cannot trace either John or Caroline any further back though which is dissapointing so any further information you have I would be grateful for. Which line does your lineage take

NANCY GERANCE 1757 m. THOMAS COTTERILL

Nancy is mother of Amelia Cotterill m. John Fite b. 1795 and lived in KY and OH. Name may be Gaunce instead of Gerance as several still live in the area and old records have Gaunces intermarrying with Earlywines and others associated with Fites. Never heard what records Gerance name came from - could be misread. Gerance could be a phonetic spelling of Guerrants, of which there were several in KY in the early 1800s, although thus far haven't connected Guerrants with Fites at all so Gaunce seems a more likely alternate name.

I have been trying to trace a Thomas Cotterill who married Sophia Banks c 1836 Sydney. We can't find when this Thomas came to Australia, he was a Master Mariner when he married Sophia in Sydney, and she had twin brother, Richard and George who were also Master Mariners. We think Thomas may have been a convict but cannot find him on any records. There is another Thomas Cotterill a convict but he is too young for ours. Think our Thomas was born c 1790's to 1800, but where in England is a mystery. He died at Bombala.

Any help would be appreciated.
Lesley

Yeah, that was my mother, Linda...she had a stomach stapling op in '95, after the op, she was in a lot of pain, and went back in 96, only to find out that the surgeon had messed up so badly (he had since been struck off), they had to remove the stomach completely...sadly, she was kept sedated for some time, but never recovered.

Haven't seen Darren recently...I know he's still driving taxis and causing a fuss for the council, while wendy lives quite close to me over in Radford (I'm in Hyson Green).

Sorry to hear about Doll, it seems that I'm always out of the loop...I found out about Brenda almost 3 years after she died from Wendy.
