Searching for information on Jane Cottrell abt 1845 Worcestershire England. Niece of William Cottrell (Cottrill) abt 1817 Worcester, England. Also Niece of Robert Cottrell (Cottrill)abt 1822 Worcester, England.
They all resided in Mobile, Alabama. Would like to know if Jane married? Any descendants? She was companion to her Uncle William C. Cottrill for many years. Family legend has it that John disappeared and may have gone to Indian Territory in Oklahoma, no trace of him in any records after the 1838 birth of his son. John was born in Ohio about 1815, place unknown.

I have much of the pedigree of John Milton (aka Milton) Cottrell, b abt. 1860, son of George W., and Margaret Jemirson, and father of Ivan. The line ends at George's father John, m. 1835 to Lucinda Mansfield.
Any ideas where John came from or went? I have only his marriage certificate, and a listing of him as George's father.

Also, there is a Cottrell twp, Dodge cty, NE. Does anyone have clues on its history?

Thanks Lisa, I greatly appreciate it. We have been trying to track down Lawrence's father since about 99 with no luck yet, but I did discover a couple of leads yesterday that I am checking into.

I did find through Richard's website that Lawrence seems to first appear in Arkansas in 1866 in the probate records. James Cox was granted custody of Lawrence, listed as a minor. I am sending off for copies of the original paperwork and HOPE that I can find more information through those records.

I'm sorry but I don't see any connection although it may just not be fully apparent yet. I have that David's parents are Martin Matthew Cottrell b. 1812 d. 1859, and Happy Lloyd (Loyd) b. 1822 d. 1923. My confidence about this info is not 100%, partially because there seems to be two Happy Cottrell's on the censuses and I have not yet figured out which one is which (they are so close it almost looks as if the family was listed twice).

I'll keep your info in mind in case I do come across something. In the meantime, there's a new Cottrell/Cattrell (etc.) group -- I'll email you the link if I can find your email through ancestry. You may find someone who can help you there.

Do you have any other information on this family, such as who the Uncle's father was and if they had family that moved to Georgia? My GG-Grandfather was Lawrence Marion Cottrell b. 1852 in Georgia. Census records from 1900 indicate his father's birthplace was North Carolina and his mother's was South Carolina. I believe his father's name to have been George. The family became separated during the Civil War, Lawrence lost all contact with 1 brother and 1 sister. I do not have names or ages for them, but do know he did find his sister during the last years of his life. I have not been able to locate a male Cottrell born in North Carolina moving to Georgia on any of the Census records I have seen. Lawrence moved at some point in time to Arkansas and married Martha Jane Tucker.

I remeber Uncle Alfred. He always had a cigar. He used to come visit us in NC when I was small. Clarence was married to Kate and they had John, Garland, who passed away from a heart attack when I was small, maybe in the early 1970's, and Douglas (who we called Pete). Pete died about 5 years ago. John lives in Dublin, Georgia and plays a lot of golf. Clarence and Kate divorced and he married my mother, Jane. They had me in 1969. Unfortunatly I do not know anything about Clarences parents or Lola as many of them had passed away when I was born. If you would like, I could give you John's address on my personal email and you could write him. He does not have email or even an answering machine. He remembers a lot of details and could probably help you.

Do you have any information on Walter and Clarence's parents? They are a dead-end for me. I have not found Clarence's death certificate and Walter's shows parents are unknown. I also list a sibling for them named Lola but don't have much information on her either.

I have that Clarence was married to Kate Mae (Catherine?) Frazier and they had children Garland E, John L. and Douglas T. Garland married Helen Louise Lyles. I have nothing else on Douglas or Helen.

Is Kate Frazier also your mother?

Descendants of Carrie Contrell have so may interesting ancestors and relations. Through Mary Polly Stillman Cottrell, we have a deluge of royal lines going back thousands of years. I have a copy of her and our ancestor's (Sir Gilbert Pickering) pardon from Charles the 2nd written in Latin. There are even bad cousins such as Benedict Arnold. And our direct ancestor Duncan was killed by MacBeth. How's that for Drama. Your father is a 7th cousin to the recent president Bush and Al Gore is also distantly related. Numerous Catholic saints and more historical names than you type in hours. I can't watch the History Channel for a day without seeing one of them. Clyde W. Cottrell was born 1909 to Frank and Florence Cottrell. Clyde's mother died in 1911. I found on the 1930 census he was living with William amd Celia Hamscher
in Buffalo New York which was an Aunt and Uncle.

Checked US Army Enlistment records, records show he was married. So sometime between 1930 and his enlistment date of April 25, 1943 he was married.

I am looking for anyone that may have info on a Daniel Cotterell that was living in Niles Michigan in 1835. I have some copies of letters written by Daniel & a William H McKee where Daniel is trying to get his Pension for service in the Revolutionary War and says he is 76 years old at this time. Daniel states that he was born in Virginia & went to Pennsylvania at about the age of 15 in 1776 & joined the Army of the Revolution under a Colonel Morgan & a Captain Johnson in the Rifle Corps of the Pennsylvania 1st Regiment for two years & then served under Colonel Mad Anthony Wayne for two more years until the Wars end. I would like to find any descendents from this Daniel Cotterell. Thanks.

Sarah White Cottrell (17 July 1841 - 8 Mar 1873) was my gt grandfather's first wife. Wm. Perry Cottrell and Sarah White were married in Calhoun Co., VA(WV) 3 May 1860 by the Rev. J. N. Norman. Sarah White had a sister Nancy White who married Wm. Perry's brother Thomas Cottrell on 8 Feb. 1865 in Calhoun Co., WV. They were the daughters of William and Nancy Deal/Deel White from Logan Co., VA and Pike Co., KY. Nancy Deal/Deel White was the daughter of Malachi and Elizabeth Minton Deel from KY. Wm. & Nancy Deal White had six children: James W., Sarah, Elizabeth, Ervin, Franklin & Nancy White. William White died sometime before 1859 possibly in Logan Co. Have not found his dob or dod. On 11 July 1859, in Roane Co., VA(WV), the widow Nancy Deal White married Nathan Smith Cottrell, the older brother of Wm. Perry & Thomas Cottrell. Nancy was about 8 years older than Nathan Smith. Nathan Smith Cottrell was one of the Cottrell brothers (sons of Silas & Sabra Cox Cottrell) who died during the Civil War.

I understand that your mom passed away in 2001 and that your Uncle Harley Jr. has also passed away. (Most recently I sent a letter to John Luering but haven't heard back from him...asked him to pass the letter on to another family member if he's not interested in responding).

The Cottrell's (descendants of Wm. Philip and Mary Louise Jarvis Cottrell) are planning a family reunion for this coming summer (August) at Spencer, WV. I descend from William Perry and Sarah (White) Cottrell, too---but through their dau. Martha (m. Jasper Newton "Newt" Harold, my GGfather).

Am trying to find info on Sarah's parents. Per the 1860 cesus, she was b. abt 1843 in Logan County, (West) Virginia. The 1850 census shows TWO neighboring White families who had 6yo Sarahs! One family had money, the other didn't---I suspect our Sarah came from Nancy (head of house in 1850), the one with no money. But have no proof.

Mr. Cottrell was born Sept. 22, 1881 at Vinton, Ia., a son of William and Catherine Cottrell. He married Mayme T. Moore April 26, 1904 at Vinton. Mr. Cottrell was a member of St. Mathias church. Surviving are two sons, Clifford C. Cottrell of Muscatine and John J. Cottrell of Chandler, Ariz., and three daughters, Mrs. Thorvald Thomsen of Tipton, Mrs. Alfred Hansen of Wilton, and Mrs. Sidney Broud of Muscatine. There are five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter, two sons, three brothers and a sister.
