I am a decendent of the Cotterill's and Wilkins from Himbleton.
Pigeon Cotterill and his wife Elizabeth Wilkins' son William married a woman named Mary.
They had a son named Daniel, who married Mary Betteridge.
They had a son named David, who married Hannah Sheffield
They had a son named Thomas, who married Emma Rushton
They had a son named Arthur, who married Mary Jane Robottom
They had a daughter named Hilda, who married Eric Gothard
They had a daughter named Julie, who married Alan Tonks
And They had a son named David Gothard - Me
(Iv not put on about all their other children and some had 2 wives etc.)

Id be very interested to know if you are related and would be happy to share some of my research with you.
To date I have 8920 people on my family tree- but not all on the cotterill side.

I am also very intreagued about such an old sampler.
My grandmother has very little "family heirlooms" other than photographs. Most of her family emigrated to Australia and so furniture or anything that would now be considered "antiques" was sold off as it could not be shipped over.

My Robert Cottrill was born in 1780 at Harbury or Hanbury Warwickshire to a Thomas and Sarah Cottrill, although I have never been able to tie this birth back to Thomas and Sarahwith absolute surety as there were a few Robert Cottrills born in the area similiar time. Thomas and Sarah were the most likely parents according to my researcher in UK. I just wish it were more definite so I could keep researching back. Thanks for answering.

I have not made a family link with your Robert Cottrill yet. What is his date of birth? I will check it and verify it in the parish records. There is a Robert Cottrill Gentleman of Northfield Worcestershire. His will is available to purchase from Documents on Line at the National Records Office Kew website. Probate date of 24 Feb 1848. I have not purchased or read this will myself. I believe Northfield is now an area of Birmingham. Did your Robert Cottrill have any more children?

My Cottrill is Robert Cottrill born in Harbury or Hanbury. He was married to Elizabeth Summerfield and then after she died, he married her sister MaryAnn Summerfield on 5/3/1816 at St Phillips Birmingham. They also had a son John Pidgeon born in 1821 but died in 1822. With an unusual name like that it is quite likely that your family and mine are linked somewhere. I would love to read the will of John Pidgeon if that is possible.

I am looking into the Cottrill family of worcestershire working my way down from Pigeon and Elizabeth Cotterill married in Himbleton in the early 1700's. The well used family name of Nathaniel seems to have been taken from Elizabeths father Nathaniel Wilkins who was the vicar at Himbleton church. The name nathaniel is carried on down various generations of the Cotterill Cottrill family. I have read quite a few Cottrill wills and the surname for the same person eg. Robert Cotterill of North Piddle is adopted as Cottrill on many documents. Is there a Cotterill out there who thinks they are a descendanto of the Himbleton Cotterills?
Today I read the will of John Pigeon Cottrill senior of himbleton and he mentions his three sons John pigeon, Charles and yet another Nathaniel. Unfortunately I left my notes at the record office so cannot quote exact dates but it was the late 1800's. I have also seen a copy of bequests made by Ernest Cottrill including a bequest to the church at Hanbury but also including a bequest for yet another Nathaniel Cottrill in the early 20th Century. More research needed. I have an antique sampler sewn by Elizabeth Cotterills mother Elizabeth Wilkins nee LONG of the supposed LONG family crest and am trying to find descendants who may be interested in its existance. I bought it in a junk shop but it had an inscription on the back saying who had sewn it and linking it to the Cotterill family. It dates from approx.1716.

Whatever became of Jane COTTRILL born 1845 in Kempsey, Worcestershire England. She travelled to Mobile, Alabama with her Aunt Hannah COLE nee COTTRILL and later TURNER. She is mentioned on the 1860 US census living with her uncle William COTTRELL butcher. Her mother Jane COTTRILL nee BROOKHOLDING JONES died when she was young. Her brothers remained with their father John Pigeon COTTRILL in Himbleton, Worcestershire. Can anyone help?

Now, according to the Bible entries, it shows the birth of Waitman Todd (24 Jul 1931) and the marriage of Todd W. (05 Mar 1950), so I'm assuming that Waitman Todd and Todd W. are the same person. Todd, married Grace L. Adams 05 Mar 1950 and had 3 children, with their oldest, Kathy Suzanne being my ex.

m. 2nd, Kenneth H. Williams, 1 child: Kenneth H. Williams, Jr., b. 06 Nov 1954.

If I remember the story correctly, Kenny (father) drove truck for Pepsi in Lost Creek, WV.

When I met Pearl & Kenny was back in 1970 in Lost Creek. She told many stories and unfortunately, I didn't write any of them down.

To add to Generation 5 the children of Charles Rex Cottrill and Helen Dring are: Robert Cottrill, Joanne Cottrill (died when small child), Charles Thomas Cottrill (my dad), Richard Cottrill, Ronald Cottrill, Donald Cottrill (no not twins), Royce Cottrill and Jennifer Cottrill.

Generation 6:
This is the information that I can remember as of right now. Charles Thomas Cottrill b. 6 Mar 1936 d. 24 Apr 1986 married to Nancy Lynn Sumwalt b. 12 Apr 1944 married 16 Nov 1962. Children: Andrew Thomas Cottrill and Rebecca Lynn Cottrill. Royce Cottrill was married to Judy (now divorced). They have Heidi (Cottrill) Ashenbrenner and Benjamin Cottrill.

My other uncles and aunt have kids as well.

There was a village in Ohio where some Cottrell families lived and the Indians raided it and killed all but one girl. I found that story in Harrison County, WVA. I'm interested in your Cotrill line...my gggrandfather married Rhuhama (Rheuhama, sp?) Cottrill. Rhuhama was born Feb 8, 1865, married William L. Bullion on 9/15/1883. Had 6 children. Rhuhama was reportedly of cherokee descent, but I have nothing on her parents or relatives. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We are trying to determine if we have cherokee in our lineage.

My gggrandfather (William Lafayette Bullion) married Rhuhama (sp?) Cottrill (b. Feb 8, 1865). They were married September 1883 in Randolph County, WV. She was said to be of cherokee decent. Maybe she is related to your Cottrill? Rhuhama died rather young, and William remarried Melcina Dilley, they had nine more children, including my great grandmother, Rosa May Bullion. Another Ancestry member gave me copies of the Bullion family bible with this info in it. If you have more info on the Cottrills of WV, I would be happy to work together on this!

He married Mary John-Ann Tolley 24 Aug 1879 in Pope Co, IL. He had a baby girl with her named Annie, born in Jan 1880. The Mother died. He then married the Mother's sister, Emma Tolley, 2 Jul 1888 ALSO in Pope County, IL. In 1900, he is in Birds Point, Mississippi Co, MO helping out as a physician. The census shows him "Married" for 10 years. Emma is found at her parents' house in Carterville, Williamson Co, IL, also showing "Married" for 10 years. Her parents there were John L. Tolley and his wife, Martha Elizabeth.

I have confirmed recently that my GGGrandfathers name was John Lonnie Cottrill (son of Elisha Cottrill) and one his sons was Lonnie John Cottrill (my grandfathers brother). Before Elisha Cottrill my tree is a little hazy since most people I have worked with do not agree all the way back and I don't know which is corrct. I have a copy Lonnie Johns marriage certificate that confirms this. John Lonnie was a carpenter and I have his cabinet makers wood planes that are all stamped JLC. I do noy know where the Louther came from but it is not in my tree.
