Hi,
Joseph Coty was the 1st husband of my grandmother, Silva Lokeka Palmer. Joseph was born about 1820 probably in Quebec, Canada West. He married 21 Jan 1856, in Keithsburg, Mercer Co., IL., and I don't know when he died but believe it was 1873 in Fremont, Dodge Co., NE. I have been unable to find his grave site.
Silva was born 30 Dec 1839-40 in OH. and died 25 May 1916, Tryon, McPherson Co., NE. They had 9 children.
Silva then married my grandfather, Hans Peters Sonnabend, Jr. A.K.A.-John Sonnaband and had 4 more children.

Oscar Berry is my Grandfather. Rumors in the family was that we were related to Buffalo Bill Cody but had heard that the family name was actually Coty. I have a cousin who has done some genealogy and still insists that we are related and that the spelling had been changed. Not likely but do you have any information relating to this?

In Loving Memory of UGO A. COTY June 28, 1924 - June 23, 2007 Ugo flew B-52's in the South Pacific during World War II. He earned a Master's degree in Aeronautical engineering from the University of Michigan. Ugo was employeed by Lockheed Aircraft in their advanced development division. (The Skunk Works) uintil his retirement in 1992. He is survived by his wife of 60 years and his children.
Published in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune on 6/26/2007.

Ambrose parents were Charles Cote and ElizabethJ Cote Ambrose had 3 brothers Levi J, Louis A, And Winston J Cote
Bertha Parents were Ellery Burtchell and Jessie Burtchell
Ambrose And Bertha were Married 1930 In Limestone ME. I think My Dad Was born In Ft Fairfield 1932 And adopted 1935 however his adopted parents had him as a fostor child as early as 1933. I contacted a lawyer and he sent me the adoption papers with my Dad real parents name My Dad also had a copy of his adoption however his copy the parents name were blank. My Mother Name was Virgina Ross O'Brien Nelson .

Don't know yet if we're related. All I know is one of my great great grandfather's brother crossed over in NY. That's all I know that the family settled in the states. That's why I'm fine combing all NY Cote's. Thanks for any further info.

My Mom Virginia was born in Boston Mass, My Father John Wendell Nelson was born Wendell Louis Coty to Ambrose Cote and Bertha Burtchell Cote Of Limestone Maine . I am looking for His parents His adopted Parents were John Henry and Carrie Johnston Nelson. I have found them in the 1930 cenus but that is all I found out about them I am looking to see if the had any relatives still living. On My Moms side I also want to find out what happened to her Dad Her Parents divoced in 1938 His name Was Charles Obrien He was from Tenn

Where was Virginia O'Brien born? I must have her descendants as I have tons of Cote for which I have the Cote Genealogy Books. He's definitely in my area.

2. Sylvia E. born ca. 1895, NE.

4. Orville L. born ca. 1905, NE.
5. Letha or Leiha born ca. 1913, NE.--you have her name listed as
`Barnes', I do not have any data on her marriage to a Barnes.

I am the grandson of Josephine Coty Berry. My father was Orville Berry. He had at least 3 more siblings. Lethia Barnes, Sylvia and Oscar. Please reply with any other information that you may have.

Joseph and Silvia (sp) had a daughter named Josephine. Josephine married James O. Berry and had 4 children that we are aware of. Lethia Barnes, Sylvia, Oscar and Orville.

Looking for Robert Gerard Coty who lived in NYC in the late 20's, 30's and 40's. Updated info indicates this was my grandfathers name, not william. My grandmother was Marion (not Maryanne) Bergere. The Coty family lived in a large house close to Central park and also had a very large house in the "country" (this comes from someone else's childhood memory of the late 30's, early 40's). Any info would be appreciated.

My Uncle Jerry (Walter J. Coty Jr.) has passed away since posting this message. I don't get to work on our family history very often. I don't have much from the Coty side yet but my Dad has started to receive info from a cousin who is doing some research. I will forward you anything I receive in the future. Right now the only other child of Clarence & Anne that I have record of is Raymond Anthony Coty. He & my Grandfather, Walter J. Coty Sr. married sisters. Grandpa married Marjorie Alberta Eldridge September 22, 1934 & Raymond married Bertha Mae Eldridge November 3, 1935. He died November 4, 1984 in Snohomish, Washington.

hi there, it's been a very long time since I've been to this site, but I may have some info for you. In Alaska there is a James L Coty, by any chance did he ever live in NH? if so then his father was Leonard Cote and was born 9/25/25 & died 8/1/89 & is buried in NH. but Leonard's father was Henry Cote & he was born in Canada somewhere, & his mother was Delima Cote who married Frank Cote, They supossedly are not related, just a popular french last name. If Not, then I'm not sure. Hope it helps a little.

Coty derives from Cote, My family originally was Cote, but when my great grandfather came from Canada (his parents or grandparents were from France) he decided to americanize the name. From my understanding some changed to Cota, some left it, I have a cousin who actually changed his back to Cote. Hope this helps.

I 'am Cota that was what I was brought up as but! I find out that on all of my my dads & brother & sister birth record say Coty .So I'am confused is it cota or coty or is they other spelling of my family name? They were 7 boys 3 girls born in NY.near Cadyville, Saranac as for my grandfather I have not found any thing but were he was in 1930. his name is Eli Cota was married to Mary Helen or Helen Mary Hulls. Her family was in Saranac NY. in 1930 and buried in Cadyville NY.
Any comments? Thoghts? Answers? Can anyone help me?

I realize your message is about 3 years old, but will give it a try. Do you have a Robert Gerard Coty in your records. I am searching for him or any other relatives/descendents/ancestors. In Dec 2000 I found that Joseph Benoit and Sophia Cote were married in Augusta in 1838. I know that Sophia Cote's parents were Gabriel Cote and Sophia Gautron of Sorel. I think that Joseph's parents were Francois Benoit and Angelique Baudreau of Sorel but I am not 100% sure on that. Do you have any confirmation of Joseph's parents.

My ggg grandmother, Sophia Cotty, married Joseph Benoit about 1840 - probably in Maine. Joseph was born in 1818 in Paris France but I have no information on Sophia. There is a clue: in the Portland 1850 census there was a Daniel Cota living very close to the Sophia and Joseph.

Do you know of any Cotty/Coty/Cota researchers?

I actually have a very detailed list of family member's with the Coty Name going back to my gr gr grandfather when he came from Canada with the name Cote (it was changed), by any chance were you a twin (the other twin died at birth)? Sorry if to personnal.
