memoranda concerning the wivell family with reference to ann couch formerly wivell wife of henry couch her cousin son of john and blanche couch formerly wivell and mother of john, henry, george, william and abraham couch.

the wivells were settled in england immediately following the norman conquer in 1066. the name is the last on the alphabetical roll of battle abbey. the arms of the family are as under(some kind of bird on top of a sheild with three stars and a doubble stripe)

in former times authors frequently delighted to conseat their names in decrastics???(cant read that word), in sentences formed by the initial letters of chapters, or by putting their coats of arms in their tittle-pages."in the ease of wi?vill for instance says an old writer the arms stand in place of the name. moreover the name wyvell?? was let to be implied by the wyvern which is the crest.

george wivell-susanna wivell married 1640
george and susanna wivell of maristow in the county of devon had a daughter named mary born early in 1690 and baptized at maristow on the 18th of march in that year.
copy of certificate from the ????page damaged.
it appears by an old register for the parish of maristow in th county of devon that mary daughter of george wivell and susanna his wife was baptized the 18 day of march. 1690 as witnys my hand this 16 day of december 1811 john teasdale spay?? veran?? of maristow
THAT IS ALL I HAVE ON THE COUCH FAMILY FORGIVE THE SPELLING IT IS HARD TO READ THE OLD WRIGHTING AND KNOW IF IT IS AN A OR AN O SOMETIMES. GOOD LUCK!
