I found the marriage certificate of Sadie H. Couch and John M. Thompson, framed, in an antique store in Michigan City, Indiana. They were married on March 1, 1882, in Rotterdam, NY. He was from Arvasco?, Georgia, she from Wolcott, Wayne County, New York. Sadie is in that county as Sarah Couch, 18, with parents George and Caroline Couch. One of the witnesses was John Couch.

My Grandmother was Sally Ann Couch and her father was Jack Couch and her Mother was Betty Callahan, both from Perry County Kentucky. Jack's Dad was Joe Couch and his Mother was Rin, however I do not have any information on Rin or Joe. If you have any more information I would appreciate it if you could share it with me.

Thanks,
Barb

Mr. McDaniel - I believe thus photo is a picture of my Great-Great-Grandfather's William Couch's brother. This Coch family had a General Store in Warren, Indiana and I have a copy of a Post Card of their Store probably take by the same photo studio in Warren. Since 5 years have gone by since this post; I know you may not have this photo any longer. Along with life getting in the way and a massive death of my computer, I've not been ldoing any genealogy. My Greatgrandmother Downey's Mother Eliza Jane (Nunemaker) Couch died when she was only 5 and her father married again and they had a son,who along with brothers, just disappear (some say to oil country. Just today I thought I'd do some looking. My name is Terri McGill- I would love you contacting me and hope the photo is still there.

The Elizabeth (Scott) Couch is the daughter of Elias Scott & unknow first wife? The following is the Will of Elias Scott - Note the name of "Elizabeth Couch."

WILLS & Inventories of Lincoln County Tennessee
1810 - 1921
By Helen C. & Timothy R. Marsh
Shelbyville, Tennessee
--------
Page, 19.
--------

WILL OF ELIAS SCOTT, Wife Margaret Scott.

Son John Scott. Daughter Angeline A. (Artififter) Brunts (Brents). Daughter Arena Scott. Daughter Elizabeth Couch. Daughter Mary Jones. Daughter Sarah Wilson, and Nancy Linch. Grandson Eli McGeehee and granddaughter Dorana McGeehee, Executors Andrew Laws___ of Marshall County, Tennessee. Signed 1843. Witnesses: John Moorehead and Henry Renegar.
--------

Elias Scott was born in Virginia about 1765 - His daughter Anna (Scott) McGehee died about the time the will was signed (1843). Grand-son Eli McGehee b. 1811 Lincoln County, Tennessee married an Underwood and is shown in Sebastian County, Arkansas in 1860. Eli McGehee dies in the Union army in the Civil war about 1864. The above Angeline, Arena & John Scott are Elias Scott's children by his second marriage to Margaret "Peggy" Laird. Elias Scott's children, Anna (Scott) McGehee, Elizabeth (Scott) Couch, Mary (Scott) Jones, Sarah (Scott) Wilson and Nancy (Scott) Lynch are his children by his first wife who is Unknown. Nancy (Scott) Lynch marries probably 1822 to 1830 in Lincoln County, Tennessee to Charles Lynch and they move to Marion County, Illinois, Missouri, & back to Marion County, Illinois.

Would you know anything about Anna (Scott) McGehee, Elizabeth (Scott) Couch, Mary (Scott) Jones, Sarah (Scott) Wilson? - Thanks - Don Martin Thomas

You are in the Couch group that descends from Thomas (Sr.) and Elizabeth Couch of Prince George and Brunswick Counties, Virginia. Thomas Couch, Sr. was born about 1685. We have a very active Couch Genealogy Group. We have had two Couch Summits (Conferences) – one in Hillsborough, Orange County, North Carolina in 2008 and one in the Old Ninety Six District, South Carolina, in 2010. A couple of questions: (1) Would you like an invitation to join us on our Couch Summit MyFamily.com web site? It is free. Many pictures, stories, charts, etc. are posted there. You can post questions there and get information. (2) Would you like to be put on the mailing list for our 2013 Couch Summit which will be held in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area in the spring of 2013? If so, email me at couchgen39@att.net. Thanks, David Couch

Brenda B posted this for David

This line of Couches is interesting. I have looked and looked for my great grandmother, Martha Couch Givens (Enoch), and hit a total dead end. She was reported by all the family to be Cherokee. My grandmother, Martha's daughter, was named Nancy but she changed it to Anna Mae. Since the Cherokees were driven from SC and Georgia and with the similarity of names could it be possible that my Martha might be a part of your family (ex. brothers daughter, etc.) Martha died young around 1900 (abandoned by Enoch)leaving 4 orphaned children, including my grandmother, Anna Mae (Nancy)Givens Jackson (Mark) who also died young at 46. Lots of coincidences here. Mine lived in Jefferson County, Arkansas. If you run across any connection please let me know. Thank you.

Couch and Collins families of KY

My ancestor is Hannah Collins, daughter of Calvin and Elizabeth Wilder Collins. I keep finding possible connections to the William and Daughtry Hall Couch families. Does anyone know if the Henry Couch listed in the 1910 Bell County Ky census with wife Hannah is the son of William and Daughtry Couch? Henry, son of William, was first married to Katie Estepp. This Hannah is listed as having only two living children which is uncommon in that era. My Hannah had only two living children.
Sarah/Sally Collins married Jesse Estepp Turner. Amos Collins married a Polly Couch. Nancy M., LNU, possibly Collins, married Sampson Samuel Couch. Sampson Samuel Couch is the son of Eli and Elizabeth Estepp Couch. Elizabeth appears to be the sister of Katie.
Can anyone add anything to the above?

Hi Leonard! I'm not the person you contacted, but definitely related:) I've found several spellings for Naoma/Naomi/Naomie Couch (my great grandmother) but you list the same names for her parents that I have in my records. She married William Albert Chisum (also went by A W Chisum, son of John Madison Chisum and Parthenia Knapp (Chickasaw tribe)). I have a photo of Naomie that I can email you. Do you have any enrollment records? My grandfather, Thomas "Bud" Chisum, said she was Choctaw, and I have found her on Choctaw census records.

Hello, I don't know if I have any information that wil help you. My grandmother was a Ritchie, as a matter of fact, I believe Ritchie Creek Road in Fannin County was named that as my grandmother's family owned about 400 acres in those mountains at one time. My father was born on that farm. As far as I can tell, he was probably the 4th or 5th generation to be born on that farm. My grandmother was Mamie Ritchie. She married Leander Patterson. I would imagine that as isolated as those mountain people remained upto about 25 years ago that somehow the Ritchie's that you are looking for are probably related to my family in some way. Interesting.

Hi, I am the son of Bill Couch (Laura Eversole). My Mother passed away on February 23, 2009.

I was wondering, can you tell me who was ELY COUCH Father was? And who was his wife?

I believe that Ellen Couch, wife of Eli did not have any children. That means it is not relative for Blood Indian for Ellen Couch. Mary Couch was his first wife, children of course was Woodson (Stella) my grandparents. I knew very little of them. I did know that my grandmother stella lived with us when I was a child.

I would love to abe able to prove a history of Indian descent, but I know that is not possible..

Anyways, would like to know who my Great Great Grandfather was, thanks. Woodson Grandfather, Eli Great Grandfather and Great Great Grandfather is ???????

John was born circa 1815/16 KY and his wife 1st was Mary born circa 1811 in TN. I think he married 2nd Polly born 1809 Harland Co KY. Children were Rachel, Levi and Sarah (Sallie). Sarah and Levi married David and Ibby Holland children of Richard Holland and Margaret Hensley. David is my husband G Grandfather. John, Mary and Polly info from census. Polly and Mary could be same person as census info flops around sometimes. Any help would be appreciated. Sarah died in 1923 in OK but couldn't find her death certificate. They had another Sallie Couch but younger. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
