A beginner's question about the origin of the Coultas name

Please forgive a question that may have been discussed to death. There were and are Coultases in England and apperently in Romania. The name doesn't sound to me very English. Does anyone know the ultimate origins of the name?

I am the great-grandson of Curtis Coultas who lived most of his adult life in southern Missouri and died in the 1950's.
