Ellie--- So Sorry for the duplication. I didn't know that you had written 2 messages.
Anyway, My Coulter emigrated from Ireland to Canada, thence to Michigan in 1876, thence to Washington Oregon in the 1890's.
None of your Oregon names are familier to me. After chasing my coulter to the west coast we had a reunion in Portland, Ore in
1988 with 44 in attendance whom up to that time I had never met or knew existed. We have found all of our Coulter family except John E. Coulter, b. 1868,Kincardine Twsp. Bruce County, Ontario, Canada. John was last seen in the 1880 US Census as living on the family farm in Chippewa County, Michigan.
He probably d. abt 1938,?, m.?. I mention John because he may have folowed his brother David who married and moved to Portland, Oregon in 1890's and who also owned a homestead in Josephine Co., Oregon; or his sister Mary Ann who married a George Talbot in 1885 and moved to Vancouver, Washington.
There was a John E. Coulter listed in the 1903 addition of the Vancouver, Washington City Directory, listed as working for a railroad company.
I am much interested in any and all data you have on your Oregon Washington Coulters.

Thanks for contacting me. You may have solved a 18 year search for both my brother Charles and me.

Best regards, Art Coulter

Art, first of all I asked my mother tonight about what she remembered of the Coulter's. She said there was a Bernadette and Armella Coulter, two of abt. 10 children. Bernadette married Herbie Harrington. She said there was a Jim and Marie Coulter who lived on Camp Ave. in Braddock, Pa. They had 10 to 12 children and gave them odd names.
Now here is what I have in family tree re the Coulter's:

Alexander Coulter Elizabeth Reagle 1816 Mercer, Pa. d:1861 Cloyton, Iowa. (Eliz's F:Abraham 1791 Littletown, Adam, Pa. M:Mary Polly Sippy 1794 Harper, Ferry, Va.)

Thomas Coulter 1829 Wolf Creek Twp, Mercer CO, Pa. Elizabeth A. Glenn 1835 (Thomas' father was John Coulter and Mother Sarah Brannon) C: of Thomas and Eliz:
Clarence 1875 Irwin Twp, Venango Co., Pa. Mary AdamsJulia Coulter Charles A. Eakin of Grove City, Pa.
Margaret Coulter d: abt. 1890
Morry Coulter buried Grove City, Pa.
Sarah Coulter d:abt. 1880
Ina Coulter William Hodil
Osta Coulter Homer Pettit
Frances Louella Coulter 1868 Wesley, Irwin Twp, Pa. Cyril Benjamin Yard 1866
Clinton Plummer Coulter 1877 Irwin Twp, Venango, Pa.

John Coulter abt. 1809 Sarah Brannon

James Monroe Coulter 1850 Butler, Pa. Florence Fanetta Doubenspeck 1854 Butler. C:
Elsie Pearl Coulter 1882 Martinsburg, BLair, Pa. D:1967 Oregon James Calaway Lusk 187 Texas

Dewayne Coulter 1890-1900 Pearl Osborne

Thomas Coulter abt. 1830 Rosey Campbell C:
James Monroe Florence Fanetta Doubenspeck.

Wendell Coulter 1890-1900 Pearl Osborne C:
Esther 1910-1915 and Dewayne 1910-1915

William Coulter abt. 1876 Lola Martha Osborne married Wa. William's F: James Monroe Coulter M:Florence F. Doubenspeck.

Mom also said that one of the Coulter's moved to Michigan. I can ask my cousin who lives there, as she suggested, as to which Coulter it was.
I care for an elderly person and would appreciate an email as it is easier for me. Dont get on boards often.

Coulter who went to Mich.

Ellie  (View posts) Posted: 22 Jul 2000 9:32PM GMT
I did call Herbie Harrington and Bernadette Coulter of Mich. Herbie just got out of the hospital for breathing problems and his wife was in a wheelchair. He was not feeling well enough to speak with me, so I could not get the details on the family. Herbie and Bernadette have been in ill health for several years...he is 80 and she is 79.

Noticed your messages. You seem to have a lot of Butler, PA (Venango Co.) info. Seeking gr-grfthr, "Al" Coulter, no dates, but married Elizabeth Downing of Pgh., and lived in Emlenton, which is Venango Co. Their children are Charles Albert b. 1882 and Hattie. He is not on 1900 Census, but 'widow' Elizabeth and 2 children lived with her family, the John Downings in Pgh. as of 1900. We are not even sure of his name, Bible just says 'Al' Coulter. Does any of this story ring a bell with you? Thank you.

Hi Art, Have much more info on my family. The Coulter I am looking for was apparently a doctor from
Kincardine,Plymton, Sarnia, Port Huron area. Found a Harold who was a dentist born late 1800s. Did you come across anything about this Harold or a Gordon, same area about but born early 1900s. Appreciate any info. Thanks Jackie
