I am a direct decendant of A.J. Coulter of Covington County, MS. My maternal grandmother's mother was Olive Linda Coulter and married a William Irvin Davis. My grandmother is Sammi Lynn Davis and she married James Robert Sherman (they both still reside in Laurel, Jones Co., MS). My grandmother sometimes talks about going to play at the A.J. Coulter plantation when she was little girl. I have the complete family tree and interesting facts through that line (of direct lienage to myself) if anyone think they are related to the Andrew Jackson Coulter of Covington Co., or of any of his brothers or uncles.

My grandmother has found the 2nd wife of A.J. Coulter buried at Mt. Olive, MS.

She also has a picture of A.J. on horseback that her sister Joyce gave to her.

Let me know if you are connected to this family and want more or have more info.

Surnames: DAVIS - COULTER
My name is Patricia Davis Rutledge. My grandfather, William Irvin Davis, was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, May 1874 and died in Maryland in 1952. He married Elva Magruder Davis in 1916 and had one son, my father William Elmer Davis in 1921 who died in 1963. My grandmother refused to tell my father anything about my grandfathers people and to this day have been unable to connect. If you believe my grandfather could have been the same you mentioned please reply. Thank you.

I know very little about the Davis family other than my great grandfather William Ervin Davis. He married Olive Linda Coulter and they had several children, including my grandmother - -Samantha Lynn Davis (Sherman). As far as I know, all of their children were born in Mississippi, but Mimi (my grandmother) said that her father and her mother had problems when she was little and her father left. I'll have have to ask her again exactly where he went, but he left the state as far as I know. She doesn't know who her Davis grandparents were because she had so little contact with her father. If you find a connection of any sort with Davis' in your family going to Covington County or Jones County, MS please let me know. As I'm sure you have discovered, the Davis name is very difficult to trace because there are so many branches. But I'm still looking and I will let you know what I find out. I've discovered that my grandmother remembers things in a rather piecy manner - she relayed tons of information the day we all went to Covington County and back to cemetaries and things she hadn't visited since she was a little girl. That trip gave her memory quite a jog and now I'm able to connect things a lot better. Maybe that's all I'll need to do with her on the Davis name. Thanks for contacting me and I'll contact you when I've traced a little more. It's possible there is a Northern connection (I know she had an uncle who moved to Boston when she was very young, and I think he was a Davis uncle. So, some of the family had some kind of Northern element or connection to them).

I just remembered after I'd posted that email, that there was another Davis name. I can get the uncle's name from my grandmother if you'd like to see if it fits your family. But I remember the name Andrew Lawson Davis. I think that Andrew may have been William Ervin Davis' father. I'm not positive, but that name is definitely in my direct ancestry. I'll find out and email you more details.

Thanks for your reply. I would not be surprised at all if my grandfather is the same one. Do you know if your g.grandmother children were blonde and blue eyed. For years my grandmother had a picture of a little girl, about 8 years old, blonde haired and blue eyed, who was supposed to be my grandfather's sister. I am supposed to look like her.
The picture disappeared when my grandmother destroyed any papers that might allow us to find my grandfathers family. He was born May 1874 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He married my grandmother in 1916 and she was 16 years younger. My father was born in 1921 in Macon, Georgia. Will let you know anything I can and truly hope that this is a missing link.
My grandfather lived from 1922 to 1952 in Montgomery, Cty.,Rockville, Md.
