Do you just need individual's information, or are you looking for official genealogy records already compiled? I have a good bit of information on my Coulter family of Covington County if you would like me to forward that to you. I am descended through Andrew Jackson Coulter (A.J.). His daughter Olive Linda Coulter is my great-grandmother. She married into the Davis family (Andrew Lawson Davis). Their daughter Samantha "Sammi" Lynn Davis is my grandmother. She married into the Sherman family (James Robert Sherman). Their daughter Janet Lynn Sherman is my mother. She married into the Crumby family of Alcorn County/Tishomingo County (William Russell Crumby). My grandmother is full of Coulter stories and things her mother told her of the family. They have some pictures (just a few) and reminisces of trips to Covington County as a child and as an adult. Email me of you would like more.

I was born in Jones County, as were my maternal grandparents and my mother (my father was born in Texas but was raised in Corinth). I know the Coulter branch made a move to Jones County through my great-grandmother Olive Linda Coulter when she married William Ervin Davis. I'm not sure where the Davis' come from, but I suspect they already lived in Jones County. William's father was Andrew Lawson Davis.

I also have a possible McLeod connection to Jones County, though through a Covington County link. During the famous Free State of Jones incident during the Civil War, a McLeod plantation owner is listed as offering his estate for the nursing of the wounded (apparently of both sides). My McLeods are rooted in Covington County, but we know very little of them. I have them traced back to Christiana McLeod who married James Windham (of Mount Olive). Her father was one of three sons of an Isle of Skye immigrant who came to North Carolina in the late 1700s. Two of his sons traveled south, one settling in mid-Mississippi and the other coming to Covington County. I strongly believe this McLeod is the one mentioned as offering his lands to the wounded during the Free State of Jones conflict. Some further research will be in order though. Being in Alabama (and in school!) limits me to traveling to Mississippi to do much of the research I would like to do. As far as official research I've done, I would be glad to email you what I have. However, it seems our historical roots (at least on my mother's side) are planted in Paulding and Covington County.

If we have more than one family surname connected to Jones County, is this a separate entry, or is this included in the one paragraph with the Coulters (because the Coulters and Shermans are connected, but removed by a generation)? My Sherman family is rooted in Jones County, as is my Windham family. My grandfather (the Sherman and descendant of the Windhams and Kirbys) married a Davis who is descended from the Coulters. Both my grandparents still live in Jones County (born and raised).

You can write it up together or as seprate surnanes. If they all tie together several surnames will be in one history, or if you want to do a seprate one that's ok. It does not have to be 1000 words, it could be a short history. Whatever you think best.

Reminder that the deadline for Jones County Family History Book is July 31, 2005. If you have already submitted you family that is great! If you have not I would hate to lose this family or any other Jones County Families in the book. This is a once in a life time thing for free. Please take time to do so. If I can help please let me know.
