Families and History

The Jones County Genealogical and Historical Organization is compiling and will publish a Jones County Mississippi Family and History book.
the Organization is seeking your help. We are asking for any person with Jones County Mississippi ties to submit their family history. You and your family are important to Jones County and we want to publish your family's heritage in this history book. It does not matter whether you have lived here your entire life, recently moved here or just have Jones County roots or ;ties, you are eligible to participate. There is no charge to have your story published. Each family history will be allowed up to 1,000 words and one photograph at no cost. There will be a fee of 10 cents for each additional word up to a maximum limit of 1,500 words and $15.00 per picture for each additional picture submitted. You may submit more that one history.

TO SUBMIT YOUR HISTORY

1. TYPING: Stories must be typed in a narrative form or standard 81/2 by 11 inch white paper and be double spaced, if possible. Stories MUST be in a flowing narrative form, ie, write as though you are telling a story. Please submit only data that you desire published. Genealogical charts or tabular material CANNOT be accepted. To insert a date, please use the following format: Jan 1, 2005. Type your name, mailing address, telephone number and date at the top middle of the first page you submit. If you submit a picture, or pictures, your picture must have a caption. On the last page of your story, type the words "Caption for Picture" and include the names of the people or what the picture is about. We MUST have the picture/pictures identified.
Please note that the JCGHO is no liable for any errors, omissions, factual content or unauthorized use of any material submitted for publication.
2. NON TYPING CAPABILITY: If you don't have access to a typewriter or computer, then print or write your story as legible as possible and turn in or mail it to us. We will find someone to type it for you. The typed copy will be sent to you for your final aproval.
3. PHOTOGRAPHS: Please send original photographs or a professional copy. If your photograph is the only existing print, then we suggest you have a duplicate made to submit. Anyu photographs will be returned to you AFTER the book has been printed. Please do not send copy machine copies as they cannot be used. Your name, address and telephone number must be entered on the back of each photograph. A simple way to do this is with a removable label or an archival ink pen.
4. MAILING: Please mail your story to us in a flat 9x12 inch envelope. The mailing address is JCGHO P. O. Box 2644 Laurel, Ms 39442-2644, or you can drop your family history at the Laurel Jones County Library Genealogy Department during the hours of Wed. & Thu. 1:00 -4:45, Fri. 9:00 - 12:00 then 1:00 - 4:45, and every Saturday the Library is open 10:00 - 2:00.
