Dear Tess, My name is Michelle Courier Ross and my father is Paul James Courier. His mother was Iva D. Burke (my grandmother) and she was married to William (yes, Willie) Courier in Escanaba. Tami is my first cousin (her mother is my dad's sister). Iva had, I think, 8 children (not in order), Harry, Ed, Richard, Paul, Donna, Annette, Steven and one who died either in childbirth or at a young age. I know that my 2 sisters and I would love to meet some of our relatives. My mother is an only child so the Courier/Burke line is pretty much all we have.

Hi Deb,
Wasn't attempting to leave you hanging.
The answer is simply that the Courier connection is very distant via the Carnahan's I believe. To tell you the truth, I was given a GED file about 3 years back when I first started doing this research and that's where it came from.
As far as sharing, I put all "dead" people out via postings on research sites. Everything I have is out there.

My grandfather JOHN COURIER born 7/14/1860 (?), left home at a very early age. I know that the family came from Quebec, Canada, and that he had brothers sisters, of which, I have no information on. They were living in the Great Lakes,Michigan area, I believe. I would like to find his brothers and sisters offspring and share info.

I was always told that John Courier had a sister or sister-in-law that was on the Titanic when it went down.

I am still looking for information on my Grandfather - John ? Courier. He was born in July 1860?, and died 8/15/53 in South Dakota.

His obituary read that he left his birthplace in Canada at the age of nine to go to Wisconsin where he joined two older brothers at at logging camp. From Wisconsin, he journeyed to Dakota Territory where he remained in SD until his death. It also says that he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

I have found some notes from my father that said one brother went by the name of "Pete" and there was a sister by the name of "Lilian" who may have lived in Iowa.

If anyone has any similar information on this family, please contace me.

I've just seen your message, and I don't think I could be any help without knowing more about my great grand father who immigrated to America in the middle of the 19th century. What surprised me was such a similarity between your story and ours. My great grandfather had a family here in France when he went away. Apparently, he gave news in the beginning (he was working in a mine,then they didn't hear from him anymore. Anyway, I hope you'll be successful in your research,and as a Courier myself, I send you my best wishes.

I knew your mother, what a beautiful women she was. She was a couple of years older me.I worked with with Pomquis, I think he was her frist husband, could be wrong, this was about 1956 on my dads job in Chicago ( Julis Brandt).I just sent your aunt Nancy a christmass card we write once a year. It was my mother that died this year she was the last and the youngest of 12 childern of Peter@Laura courier,Peter died when my mom was 12 , her mother died she was 16 , her memories wer not to good about her home life or parents.I knew Exilda ,Lill, Loreta.Here the names I remember, Exilda,Amamda,Wilford( lived in milwawkee seldom came back to Escanaba)
Fred,John,Joe,Bill,Willam,Peter,Marie,Mae and one who fell off grocery truck and died.

Their were 12 childern in my mothers family ,we have people all over the country.

Is your Mother Nancy, Joyce, Betty? They are for certain my cousin's, they lived down the street from our home. I used to measure my height by Aunt Gladous (sp), because she was so short...as a child it made me feel 'big." The entire family was from Powers, Escanaba, and many worked in Namha (sp) Michigan.
The family name, prior to those living in the U.P. I believe was spelled differently and I understand they came from the Montreal or Quebec area of Canada.
My wife and I live in Petaluma, CA.

I am not familiar with the John Courier in the Dakota's, but Northern Michigan and logging camps of Northern Wi. Coupled with the Name Peter..... all seem to come together. They all worked in lumber camps at one time or another. Will have to look into this more. Possible, my cousin Ken Brandt, from Auburn, CA. who's Mother is Mae Courier Brandt (deceased) may have some information on John. My uncles and aunts on the Courier side are: John, Willie (My Dad), Fred, Peter, Joe, William and Mae..... I think I am missing someone. This was a big family. One Uncle was reported to have traveled to California and not heard of after the "big earthquake of....." Sorry don't have more at this time... will check with my wife.
I was doing research, work related when I came across this information.

My Grand Mother was Exila Derusha (Exila Demars Courier). Great Grand Mother was Laura Courier. Laura Married Peter Courier (second husband) Laura had two daughters before the marriage. Exilda and Amanda. Laura and Peter had many childred. Joseph, William, Mae, and Peter are among a few. Mae married Alfred Brandt who was superintendent of the Mackinac Bridge. This beginning time frame is around the same time our French "Carriere" ancestors came to America and that name has become Coyer/Courier. BUT, it is the wrong time frame. He was born in 1909 and died in 1951.
However, your reference to the French-Canadian-Catholic Couriers does fit
the family description. The family has a deep history in Pinconnong, Detroit
and Quebec. If you have more info, we can compare notes.

Only information I have is Mr. Courier dropped off his two children, Amy or Emmy and Clarence Antone Courier at a family's place in Aitkin MN. ~ 1892. Said he'd return to get them. Never seen again. Wife died in childbirth. The family who raised the Courier kids was LeSart of Aitkin, MN area. Mr. Courier is supposedly French Canadian and of Roman Catholic religion.

I'm looking for info on the COURIER side of my family. I can only go back to my great grandfather. His name was Emmett Leroy Courier he was married to Sarah A. Jones. They lived in Bigelow, Holt Co., Mo. My grandfathers name is Sherman Leroy Courier born 1900 in Bigelow. On Emmetts' marriage certificate he signed his name as Courrier but on his sons' license he signs it Courier. Also any info on the Ramseys' or Jones would be great. All I know is that the Jones were from Wales and my great grandmothers' brother went over in the 1930's or 40's to see the old estate.
