Hi, I believe you and I are searching for almost the same lineage. I saw how old your post was so I hope you recieve this. I am the grandson of Chief Joseph Cournoyer. My family buried him on the sioux reservation in either 1993 or 1994. Any information would help and good luck on your search.
Thanks, Stephen duecewhitney@aol.com

Hello... I am curious if anyone knows if Joesph Cournoyer ever adopted sons named Dale and Frank. I haven't been able to find out anything about my grandfather other than I went to his funeral in South Dakota in probably 1993-1994. I have a Aunt Diane and an Uncle Joe, both children of Joe Cournoyer. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you

I'm mot sure where I fit into your tree. I'm descended from Antoine Hus-Cournoyer (1784-1865) and Veronique Tessier (1791-1864), both from Sorel. They married in 1810. Their daughter Basilisse Cournoyer was one of my great-great-great grandmothers. She was married to Olivier Valois, who was from Ile Dupas. 2 of their sons (Louis and Oliver) immigrated to Centerville, MN in about 1870-1875.

It looks like Antoine's full name is Antoine Jarrin Jarred dit Lajoie, born 8 Dec 1803 in Lanoraie, Quebec, Canada to Joseph Jarrin dit Lajoie (1768-1830) and Suzanne Millet (1778-1806). Theotiste Breault was born 27 June 1899 in St. Liboire, Comte de Bagot, Quebec, Canada, to Jean Baptiste Breault and Theoste (perhaps Theotiste?) Belouin.

The Ancestry tree online where I got this information is at http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/20680796/person/1125735876?ss...= . It doesn't go back very far, but that may be a start on names and variations if you don't already have that info.

As for the Cournoyer line, there is information for them, for the Hus line, and other French lines at Genealogy of French in North America at:
http://www.francogene.com/quebec--genealogy/999/index.php#C

Finally, there is also a large amount of information on French-Canadian marriages in the Sorel/Quebec area at:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~qcrichel/DEFAULT.HTM

It's worth a shot to check that site for any of your French-Canadian families who lived in Quebec, too, because many lines go back through there to France in the 1650's. If you find your families on there, be sure to click on the links for children because it may give you further information on the place of marriage. Birthplaces are listed on the pages where they are a child.

I have been thoroughly enjoying going through both of the last two websites for my French-Canadian families for the last week after I discovered them. I found a lot to record!
Here's an example from my family tree: Click the "Valois" link, then search for "Alexis" (control+F). Click the link "Alexis VALOIS m. Marguerite FAFARD, 17 FEB 1817, Ile Dupas, QC", meaning that Alexis married Marguerite on that date in Ile Dupas. It gives you the names, marriage dates & locations of Alexis's parents, Marguerite's parents, and that they had a child named Olivier Valois. click the parents names to follow their lines backward. It doesn't give births or deaths, just marriages.

Hi, My Great Grandmothers maiden name is listed as Mary Cournia and other spellings which I am hoping is a short for Courneya. She married my great Grandfather Glode Cutchure in Lucas County, Ohio in 1864. My Grandmother was born in 1874. Her siblings were Bernard or Barney as he was called, Orilla Cutchure Lacourse and Joseph. My Grandmother was Elizabeth Cutchure VanNatta. Would appreciate any light you could shed. Mary Cournia also married Charles Drouillard in 1880, in Lucas County, Ohio and had my Grandmothers half sisters Eva Pearl and Effie. Thanks

I am a descendant of Napoleon Salvail de Tremont. He is a maternal great-grandfather of mine. My grandmother, nee Alice Salvail de Tremont is a daughter of his from his first marriage. I now live in the United States but grew up in Montreal Canada. I'm also aware that he went to Montana to practice Medecine where my grandmother was born and brought up. He was married (1st wife with last name Lasalle).

I am late coming to the table on the Cournoyer line But I would absolutely love to see the info you describe on Paul Hus history. The best I can determine at the moment is a line that goes back thru Denis Hus. Any and all info appreciated. One of my stumbling blocks at the moment is Antoine Lajoie who, married to Theortiste Breault, produced Philomena Lajoie. Can't seen to get beyond that. In any event thanks for the info.

Paul Joseph Cournoyer

He actually just passed away on Monday, March 23, 2009.

I remember you Ronnie when we used to go to the farm? We were real little then. We used to go to your parent's house all the time when we were kids before we moved to California.

Tim Perras

Hello! What a pleasant surprise. Yes my father-in-law was a POW at LuftStalag 1 in Northern Germany. The pictures I have are of the camp and some of the prisoners. I think the pictures were captured as I have seen many like them on the web.

The last survivor of the crew died last year: Charles Whetstone. I have a copy of the report made to the Army Air Corps about the plane being shot down. Walter Perry McBROOM was an officer and the B-17's co-pilot. Since your grandfather was enlisted, I don't know if he was in the same camp or not.

If you are interested, I'll send you the story as I know it from my father-in-laws notes and official records.

I have attached my father-in-laws letter and one from Charles Whetstone. It is possible that the Microfiche has your great grand father’s letter as well.

If your grandmother has any photos from that period that belonged to your great grandfather, I would be interested in seeing them. One picture I have is of the whole crew before they were shot down.

Take care and Happy New Year!

Eric Thornton
etpapa at comcast.net (remove spaces and at and replace it with the @ symbol to make it a valid e-mail address.)
That is my grandfather (and great grandmother) - he is deceased now, but my grandmother is alive. I was just randomly google-ing his name and came across your question from 2005. Don't know if my grandmother would be interested in sharing pictures, my grandfather kept his WWII experiences to himself. Was your father-in-law also captured/POW?
I wonder if she'd recognize the name. I'll mention this to my mother (his daughter).

The Cournoyers are descendants of Paul Hus and Jeanne Baillargeon and so are the Paulhus and the Millette families. I have a Cournoyer tree, my mother in-law was Marie Louise Cournoyer also a descendant of Thomas Ignace Cournoyer.
