oh, my... But Edward Coursey is a great great great ... uncle of mine. Might these papers still be laying about? I recently, last week, printed out his discharge papers from the Library of Congress. August 3, 1778.

Thomas M. (b 2 Oct 1877, d 10 Oct 1966); Minnie J. (d 21 Jul 1931). Both buried in Restlawn Memorial Park, TX
Especially any descendants to add the Hartswick family tree.

Thanks. I think that may be the wrong Minnie. Could be a daughter. The one I am looking for was born in Aug 1869 and
died 1931. Maiden name Hartswick middle initial J.
Maybe in ElPaso but there aren't many pix or info on cemeteries
there at least I can find.

I found it odd that all the other markers are displayed on the Find A Grave website but her's is not. I guess since its a flat marker it may now be covered by grass and was missed possibly.

You might want to "google" the Coursey DNA project as well as the Courson DNA project. Both show that the Coursey family of Emanuel County, GA is NOT related to the Coursey family of Edgefield County, SC.

Not to muddy the water, but I think the father of James Coursey(b.c.1791-6) was Absalom Coursey. Absalom lived in Jefferson County as did James Coursey until after 1830. I suspect that William Coursey was the grandfather of James, not his father.

My 4th great grandfather was James Valtinos Coursey from Alabama b. 1766, he married Parthinia Mott. She divorced James Coursey and moved to Texas with her family and her son Valentine Austin Coursey Sr.

UPDATE. Julia Barbara's last name was NOLT... NOT HOLT.

The father to Thomas, Elmer, and B.O. was William John Jackson Coursey. William was my great-grandfather's brother. I do not have any information on B.O. I don't even know what B. O. is the abbrevation for. I have some information on the Courseys. Just let me know what you are interested in.

I am researching the Coursey and Mott family from Alabama.

James Valtinos Coursey b. Clark County, Alabama exact dob & dod/place, parents unknown; married Sep 14, 1817 Clarke County, Alabama to Parthinia Mott b. Aug 10, 1798 Odessadale, Meriwether County, Georgia.
They divorced Jan 15, 1828 Alabama.

Parthenia and their son, Valentine Austin Coursey moved to Texas with the rest of her Mott family.

I work with a group of researchers.

Hello my name is marie umsted (gibbs) my grandfather was born a coursy but the gibbs family take him and take care of him cuz when he was born his mother died at childbirth and his father could not take care of him but he had 2 brothers 1 name thomas but i call him uncle tommy anad the other is elmar i think that is how u spell it.his mothers name was dolly or dillie.my grandfather was born in 1919.

I was going through some old records/files of individuals that turned out not to be related to my family and thought I'd share if anyone was interested. I have about 20+ pages of a War of 1812 Pension file for Edward Coursey of Queen Anne's County, Maryland. It includes affidavits, bounty land etc. I will retain for a period of 6 months, then it is going in the garbage. Keep in mind these are copies made at NARA and not originals.

Hi! Richard......you are the only person that I know actually found that Chastain had served in the Civil War. I have his pension records and his wife Elizabeth also applyed for a widows pension. They lived in Linn Couty for about 7 years in between the census. Congrats! on doing the research!........Linda

I have the folowing document, I believe to be data card listing info regarding Coursey, Chesteen and a Civil War Pension:

Widow Coursey Elizabeth J.
E.Co., *th Reg't. Mo. S. Cav.

1887 Mar 23 Invalid App. #603454 Cert. #607800 Kan.
1894 Feb. 6 Widow App. #589701 Cert. #430973 Kan.

The above seems to indicate that Chesteen and Elizabet moved to Kansas sometime betweem 1800 (in MO. Fed. Cen.) and 1887 when he applied for pension. He appears to have died there probably in Jan. of 1894 given the date Elizabeth applied. Chestenn was in the Missouri State Militia Cavalry, joining in 1862 Mar 13, he was listed as 49 yrs, dark coplexion, 5' 9" tall, blue eyes with light hair, born in Todd Co. Ky., a farmer. He enlisted from Bolivar, Mo. It appears he recieved an anan, Disch. I am not sure when but it looked like he was home sick a lot after Sep. 14, 1862. He became sick near Springfield , Mo and apparently never really recovered. Possibly why he applied for pension as an Invalid.

Hello Ann. I just saw your post. I am a descendent of Richard's sister, Mary Courcy Crowley. I have visited the Courcy graves in Vergennes many times as well as pouring over documents in the town clerk's offices of several towns hunting for additional deCoursey information. Chastain/Chasteen Coursey correction

This is for people who are doing research on Chastain Coursey who married Elizabeth Jane Crabtree. Everyone has Chastain Coursey as being born November 27, 1813 in Logan County, Kentucky. I beleive this is correct. But everyone has Chastain Coursey death as January 14, 1894 in Polk County, Missouri. The date is correct but the place of death is incorrect and should be Linn County, Kansas and that is where he is buried probably in an unmarked grave. Everywhere on the internet is where people are incorrectly putting his death place down wrong. I have the proof so that means some of you are not really doing your research and proving it before you post it as fact.

Coursey 1816 GA d/o William Coursey & Anna Eliz. line. Have seen your work online and also seen where speculation that William Coursey & Zachariah may have
been brothers. Have you found this connection ? Do you have
