FAMILY HISTORY

HELAMAN GAGO  (View posts) Posted: 27 Feb 2000 10:56PM GMT
Aloha, I'm doing some family history and I remember my dad telling me about how his last name came to be GAGO. My dad is from American samoa, he said that one day the chief of his village and another chief were walking on the beach and saw this guy sleeping on the beach. they talked to him and asked his name and he said that his name was Gago, the chiefs not knowing how to speak english called him Gago in samoan, same spelling, different pronounciation. in samoa, the first G sound like an N and the second G is slient, so as you can see the name is the same. Before my dad passed away he met a guy from Peru, his name is Jorge Gago. When he met my dad he said that his uncle look just like my dad. He went on to tell of his uncle leaving home to go to south sea to live. This unlce of his was in the Merchant Marine. I'm writng this because our geneology is not complete cause we couldn't find the rest of the family. So please help me. I need to know about your side of Gago. write to me
