I just found this piece of information on another site and it said that the John Court, who immigrated to Maryland in the year of 1635 was not the same person as the John Courts, who was baptized at Otley Register in Yorkshiren the date of October 16, 1614, and the son of Francis Coates. Also, I found out what the term, "Caly" after the name of Francis Coates, the term "Caly" stands for Caley Hill, which was a big house near Caley Hill in Pool, which is one of the outlying villages of Otley. This John Coates or Courts probably ddid not come to American and was another John Courts from the fact that this JOhn Courts died and was buried on the date of Auugst 28, 1679 and the John Courts, who came to Maryland died in the year of 1697 and this is proven from the Maryland Records. Both, John Courts, the JOhn Courts, who came to Maryland and the John Courts who was baptized at Otley Parish Register, YOrkshire, England both were married to women named, Margaret. John Courts, the immigrant, who came to America as an indentured servant in the year of 1635, wsa transported to Maryland in the year of 1645 to plant and inhabit there, and John Courts was transported to Maryland with Francis Pope. On the date of August 3, 1647, both, John Courts and Francis Pope were granted a patent, and both JOhn Courts and Francis Pope, were servants, who were brought into the colony of Maryland by James Neale. These facts are proven about the progenitor of the Maryland Courts family. Also, another difference is that the John Courts of Otley Parish Register, YOrkshire, England was married on the date of April 7, 1645, to Margaret Robinson, who was the daughter of Anthony Robinson and his wife, Mary Saxton, the granddaughter of Lawrence Saxton and his wife, Jane. It is interesting that during this same year that the John Courts in Maryland was cultivating and residing on his land patent or working as a servant for James Neale, while the other Jhon Courts was getting married !!!!!!! Another difference is that the JOhn Courts and his wife, Margaret Robinson Courts had a son, Micheal Courts, who was baptized at Otley Register, YOrkshire, England on September 27, 1646, and Micheal Courts was buried on June 30, 1648, and they had four other children, who were born between the years of 1655 and 1664. The John Courts in Charles County, Maryland and his wife, Margaret, who was also an indentured servant and to the shores of American in the year of 1649, had a son, John Courts II, another son, Hugh, a daughter, Margaret Courts, and a natural daughter, Elizabeth, who became the wife of James Keech. It is noted that John Courts II was the son of John Courts , who immigrated as an indentured servant in 1639, but later became a substantial landowner, and Margaret Courts, wife of John Courts I, was also an indentured servant, who immigrated in 1649.
Then the legend in the Courts family that their ancestor, John Courts, was descended from the Lords of Annandale might have some true foundation as the other legend that JOhn Courts was raised at Lochmabean Castle in Scotland. It is known that John Courts I, of Charles County, Maryland, took three indentured servants, who were Jacobites and transported to America from Liverpool. Does anyone agree that fact shows sympathy for Scotland even if the John Courts in Maryland was not of the Cathlic faith? It is doucmented in the annals of John Courts II that the Courts family of Charles County, Maryland was of the Anglican or Episcopalian faith.
Who is John Courts, who the Maryland Courts family descends from?
Is John Courts I, the one who came to the shores of America in 1635 as an indentured servant truly one of the Lords of Annadale, who left his castle and title due to its waning wealth and came to the shores of America for a better future or is he one of the servants of the Courts family of YOrkshire, England, who took their name and came here and claimed to be of the same family as he truly worked for?
Who agrees one answer has to be correct? Now, we need to research it, anyone interested?
