Hello, Mitch. Based on messages you've posted, I believe that your wife and I are related! My grandmother, Maria Davila Lopez (1903-1999), of San Luis Potosi had an uncle named Jose Cosme Narciso Davila Tejada. His wife was Herlinda Davila. One of their 10 children was Platon Davila Davila, first cousin to my grandmother. Cosme was one of four brothers. Please contact me via e-mail so we can compare notes. I am in Duarte, California in Los Angeles county. Thanks!

Saphier. Safier, or Saffier. I think that some of her ancestors might have been some of the very well learned teachers and professors of Spain. or even part of high court government (Spain's) who were exiled during the 16th and 17th centuries. They fled to Portugal and from there, made their way to other European countries, Brazil and Mexico.
How interesting, Mitch. Of all the children that my grandparents had I remember: Herlinda Davila, Herminia Davila de Samaniego( she was my godmother), Teodoro, Efren, and Maria, (she had a daughter named Victoria). Herminia had five children: Jacinta, Efren, Juvencio, Ricardo, and Juan
Antonio, a doctor. At least two of them (that I know of) are deceased: Jacinta, who was almost six foot tall, and Juan Antonio Samaniego, a doctor, who was murdered.

Now, let me re-read Fernandos information. It seems to me that his ancestors were born in the 1840's (1846) when Texas still belonged to Mexico. The Mexican-American war of 1848 took seven States from Mexico: 1. Texas was sold by the traitor President of Mexico, Santa Ana, for 15,000,000 dollars. Then President Polk; at the same time declared war to Mexico, 2. It ended with Mexico's lost of not only Texas, but New Mexico, Arizona, California, Colorado, Utah and Nevada. INCLUDING THE PEOPLE LIVING THERE....ALLOWING THEM TO KEEP THEIR PROPERTY AND STAY THERE. However, with the years, lot of the Mexican people lost their property, but there is a law now, that if you can prove ownership of the land, that if you have the documents proving that property that was taken away belonged to your ancestors the government will pay you for it. So, I hope that Fernando will become a millionaire......if not ,anyway he may have other surprises coming his way.

My great grandmother's name (Cosme Davila's mother was a Tejada) I am almost positive
of being related to President of Mexico Sebastian Lerdo de TEJADA , Born in Jalapa, Mex. in 1820-1889) He was in exile with Benito Juarez, the greatest President of Mexico, in Texas. After the fall of the Empire they returned to Mexico. At the death of Benito Juarez. Sebastian became President. A great friend of the United States 1872-1876) However, the new President Porfirio Diaz, exiled him from Mexico and he came to the United States wit his family.

Fernando, now that you have sent pictures of the other Davila Tejada
brothers I am almost positive that the gentleman who we are trying to
identify is my grandfather Cosme Davila Tejada. Among other things he was a
tailor and dressed half of the senators and Congressmen. When I was younger
I looked a little like Serapio's daughter (the one on his right side. The
other lady cousin made me think of my sister Billie who had beautiful hands.
We are getting there! Right now my brother Ed and I are dealing with the
Spanish Conquerors Davila and De Avila which becomes Davila, later
on......Are you the son of one of the Davila sisters of my father? No, I
guess not....you are too young for that. Maybe of one of the nieces of my
father........It is a big, big family. Tejada. my great-grandmother, was the
niece of Sebastian Lerdo de Tejada, the President, daughter perhaps of
Miguel Lerdo de Tejada, a great educator of the times. Many schools carry
his name in Mexico City, and the High School was considered one of the best
in the country. Keep up the good work. I am still with the
Conquerors.....and so are my brothers Ed and George in Mexico, City/.

Something to add that I just got from a fabulous history book called RELACION VERDADERA DE LA CONQUISTA DE LA NUEVA ESPANA (MEXICO) BY THE TOP HISTORIAN BERNAL DIAZ DEL CASTILLO: " IN THE THIRD OR FOURTH TRIP THAT THE SPANISH CONQUEROR, MADE TO MEXICO, FROM CUBA, HE NAMED ALONSO DAVILA AS CAPTAIN OF ONE OF THE VESSELS. (REMEMBER THAT THE FIRST DAVILA WENT TO PERU , SOUTH AMERICA SO IT CAN BE ASSUMED THAT ALONSO WAS THE SON OR CLOSE RELATIVE OF HIM).

4. MERCEDES (RODRIGUEZ)3 COUTO (VICENTA "TITA"2 SAPHIER, PEDRO1) was born Abt. 1892 in Mexico City, Mexico, and died Abt. 1976 in Mexico City, Mexico at about 84 year old. She married MAX NOËL. He was a doctor of German heritage, and died in Mexico City, Mexico.

iii. MARGARITA "MAGGIE" NOËL, d. [married about 3 times and had a daughter].
