Hi! My great uncle Frederick Montier married Marie Aimee Vascocu in 1841. Details are in a post below. I have searched and searched for any children or what happened to Frederick. I found him once in Natchitoches Masonic Lodge and now I can't find it. Help! Lea Montier Hall
petenlea@tisd.net

Thanks for answering. I am really confused. The marriage banns dated 27 January 1841 say: Frederic Montier (my great uncle) and Marie Aimee Vascocu legitimate and minor daughter of J.B. Andre Vascocu and Marie Faustine Cheriny. It says that Frederic is the legitimate son of Bernard Montier and Anne Elizabeth Courchere, native of Bollegne in Normandie, France. If the bride was a minor would this be the Marie Aimee you are talking about? I know they repeated the names over and over in the generations. This Andre Vascocu is the Patriot used by 5 members of the Daughters of the Revolution: Maria F. Chirino, Maria F. Chirino, Maria F. Chirino, Marie Miramis Vascocu, and Marie Miramis Vascocu. I wondered if the repeated names might be for mothers, daughters, etc. I don't know why the same names all have different DAR numbers. Are you familiar with the DAR? I belong so I was able to get the names but no addresses. I'm going to take what you sent and see if I can do anything with it. I never heard of Frederic until a couple of months ago This is fun!
Looking more deeply (new, unfamiliar program - don't like it!) I find a Marie Aimee Vascocu, b.20 Mar, 1805 to Andree Vascocu, with 10 siblings, one of whom is Joseph Andre, my ancestor. Only trouble with this one is that the spouse I have is Marie Magdaline Raimond, not Marie Faustine Cheriny. Perhaps he had 2 wives -- quite possible with so many children. Also note that my dates would make Marie Aimee 36 years old at her marriage -- kind of late.

I don't have any of your names. Within the right time frame I have my direct ancestor, Mary E. "Melosie" or "Melodie" Vascocu, born in 1828 to first cousins Joseph Andre Vascocu and Marie Miramis Vascocu. These cousins were the children of brothers Andre and Louis Vascocu, the sons of Antoine Vascocu and Marie Barbe Toups. I'm sure you've noticed there are a LOT of "Marie"s and "Mary"s in that Catholic community. If Marie Barbe Toups is your ancestor, I have interesting information about her -- contact me reinhart@xyz.net

Hi! I just found a great uncle Frederick Montier who married Marie Aimee Vascocu on 27 January 1841. The post of 3 banns was sent to me by the Natchitoches Genealogical Society so I'm pretty sure it is authentic. It says that the bride is the daughter of J.B. Andree Vascocu and Marie Faustine Cheriny. Frederick was the brother of my grgrandfather David Montier. I'd like to know more about his family in LA. I found him as a member of the Masonic Lodge. Marie Aimee is later referred to as Emma. What info can yhou share? Lea Montier Hall, Seadrift, TX petenlea@tisd.net
Your Marie Aime Vascocu I believe is sister to my ancestor Joseph Andre Vascocu, b. Aug. 28, 1799. He married a 1st cousin, Marie Miramis Vascocu. His parents (and Marie Aime's) were Andre Vascocu and Marie Magdelenne Raimond (various spellings). I would be happy to share information.
Linda Reinhart

I would love to have the information mentioned about this (Gracien) Couty line. I have some missing links and would love some clarifications from direct descendants. The Couty family is distantly and not-so-distantly related to mine.
My 4th great grandfather is Jean Pierre Paul Couty, son of Jean Paul Couty, Jr. & Marie Josephine Torres. Jean Pierre married Marie Celine Cedars and is the father of my 3rd great grandmother Victoria Pauline Couty, who is the mother of my great great grandmother Marie Francis Vallery.
If I am not mistaken, Jean Pierre Paul and Andre Paul were brothers.
As I said, I would love to have any info anyone is willing to share about this family. Thanks and happy hunting!

Brittaney Kerry

Julie,
My Great Grand Father was Gracien couty, and also believe Antoine was a direct relative. And my Grand mother's last name was Rachal. If you have anymore info on the Rachals, let me know. I'll dig thru all the Rachal family records I have and see what I can find. Yvonne told me you were our cousin, it sure has taken along time to find everyone!
Jeff

Hello,
My family is also Couty from Cloutierville, LA. I believe our grandfathers are brothers. My grandfather is Gracien Couty, grandmother is Gertrude Derusseau. I am forwarding your email address to my sister, who is doing our geneology. She has found our family all the way back to 1700's. There have also been different spellings within our family - some spell it Coutee, some Couti, but we're ALL related! Look for Andre Paul Couty and look for Jean-Baptiste Vallery - our great great great grandfather. My sister's name is Laura LaCour-Johnson, I'll send her your address. Good Luck and Hello Cousin! My mother is Mary Leola Couty, born 1916, died 1999. Her father is Gracien Couty, from Cloutierville. And there is Rachal on my father's side.

I am a decendant of the Couty family of Cloutierville, LA. My maternal grandfather was Albert Couty and my maternal grandmother was Evelina Couty. They were second cousins. Albert was one of several children on Baptiste Lincoln Couty and Mary Aimee "Emma" Vascocu. Evelina's parents were Antoine A. Couty and Sarah Rachal. Would love to hear from any long lost cousins or anyone knowing anything about this family.
