The only information that I have on Grace Covalt is that she was born November 24, 1876. She had a brother by the name of Norman Covalt who was born September 11, 1878. Their parents were William G. Covalt and Patience W. Thompson.
William and Patience were married February 21, 1875 in Clermont County, Ohio. I have Grace marrying a William Barrett Cain. That is all that I have on Grace, if you could provide me with any further information I would be appreciative.

The Stella Covalt that I have was the daughter of George W. Covalt and Louise Yeager. Stella was born May 31, 1889 and married a man by the name of Pachoud. If this is your Stella I would appreciate any info you would have on her. I have alot of information on her parents and her brother Geniah William.

Rebecca Covalt m. Nathan Taylor Henry Co., IN

Hi all,
I'm trying to find anything on my gr-gr-grandparents, Nathan and Rebecca Taylor. There is a record of this marriage, which I have not personally seen, in Henry Co., IN. Gr-Grandmother was Emma Taylor (b. abt 1864, m. Schulyler Mendehnall and lived in Winchester, Randolph Co., IN, d. 1941). The 1880 Census, Henry Co., Blue River section shows Nathan Taylor, age 39 and wife Rebecca, age 35, with son Oliver, age 18 Emma, 15, Claude, 12, as well as several other other younger siblings. I believe Nathan's father was from NC, his mother from OH. If I recall, Rebecca's parents were both from IN. Any information about either family would be greatly appreciated, as I am at a dead end. Thanks!
--Julie Stachowiak

Joseph JONES + Mary COVALT + their 12 children

Sally, I descend from their first child and son, Evan W. Jones.

If you'll go to my home page, Coming Together in America http://hometown.aol.com/wilenesmth/index.html then scroll down to my WILKINSON / RUTHERFORD Family File, then click on J (for Jones) in the Index that appears, then click on Jones, then scroll down to JONES, JOSEPH and you'll find all the very latest research on this family and all 12 of their children, including son Jonathan.

Your family's speculation that Joseph Jones was a soldier at the fort (I believe Fort Washington was its name) is something I have often wondered about, but haven't figured out how a person could obtain proof of that.

Jonathan C. Jones, b. ca. 1799, d. Dec. 2, 1877, md. Nancy Cochran, dau. of John and Rosannah Cochran. Nancy was Jonathan's only wife, and he never remarried after her death, Jan. 22, 1838. When his youngest dau., Nancy A. (md. Jotham Clark Thompson) moved to Champaign Co., IL, in the 1850s, Jonathan went with them, and died there in 1877. I'm in contact with one of Nancy's descendants whose name and e-mail address is in Nancy's notes in my file online.

I recently acquired a transcription of a biography for Jonathan's son, John A. Jones, published in 1894, which you'll find in John's notes in my file online. John and his wife, Mary A. Grover, had 5 children -- Ella, Warren, Emery, Emmett, and one more that died.

There's a growing list of Joseph Jones and Mary Covalt descendants that I am in contact with, and would love to add you to that list for future updates.

Hi Chris,
I have been looking for actual documentation of Rachel's last name, but have not found it in writing. I do have her last name as Ewing and they were married in Hamilton County Ohio in 1792. I think I got this from one of the genealogy sites on the internet (either World Tree or Family Search).
I do have a copy of Cheniah's will in which he names all his children. Elizabeth was not married at the time of his death, and he left her the sum of $40. I found 2 marriages for an Elizabeth Covalt, but they were not to a McCullough and they were in the 1840's, which seems late for Cheniah's daughter.
My G,G,G, Grandfather, Isaac Covalt, was Cheniah's second son. My G,G, Grandmother was his daughter Malissa.
I will let you know if I find any actual documentation or more information.
Hope this has helped a little.
Nancy

I have a recently discovered photo of Grace Bell Romack Covalts father--Train Romack and all his siblings taken about 1890-very clear photo. If anyone in your family or you interested--let me know--I have extensive Romack Genealogy from way back and all siblings of Train Romack. Please give my email to Betty or anyone in Ruth Covalt's family.
Yes, any help appreciated. R. White
In 1860 Perry Twp, Brown County, OH, Ebenezer Covalt was 32, a farmer with $3500 in real estate and $600 in personal property. Sarah is not listed with him, presumably she had died in the two prior years. Lucinda is 13, Mary A. is 11, next comes Israel [I found this difficult to read in the census and I see in the Covalt Genealogy that this child is called Jarret] 9 years, Maria C. 7 years, Eliza A. 5 years, Elizabeth A. 4 years and Sarah H. 2 years old. There is more if you are interested.

Caroline

Montgomery, OH: Ella C. Jones/John Allen Jones/Johnathan Jones/Mary Ann Covalt

Dear Covalt Folk,

Anyone still living in/near Montgomery, OH? Anyone's parents or grandparents ever talk about the John A. Jones side of the family? I believe their farm is now turned into subdivisions called "Jones Farm" off Montgomery Road, and also Sycamore High School.

I'm running into a major clash between family lore and available documentation. Family lore says we're related to Mary Ann Covalt through my great great grandmother Ella Celeste Jones, but the details are sketchy for the first two generations before her. The best I can figure it must go like this:

Mary Ann Covalt (b.1772, daughter of Abraham of Covalts Station) married Joseph Jones a soldier at the fort. And here's where I start speculating: One their sons was Johnathan (sometimes spelled Jonothan) Jones who married Rebecca Wallace (or some accounts say he married another woman). They had two children, Nancy and John Allen (b.1826?). John Allen Jones married Mary Ann Groover (b.1832?), and they had four children: Ella Celeste (b.1851), Warren (b.1855), Emmett and Emery (twins, b.1864). I've pieced this together from various narratives, but I don't have a birth or death certificate or marriage license for any of this. My mother (who grew up in Montgomery, as did her mother, Ella Alberta McGuire, as did her mother, Mabel Alberta Beeler) says there was a fire at the Hamilton County (Ohio) Courthouse in the 1800s that destroyed most of these records. I'm not sure where to go next. Any ideas? Most of the documentation I've found on the family of Mary Ann Covalt and Joseph Jones is either silent on this particular son Johnathan, or says something different, but
I've found other inconsistencies that others have disproven, so I'm not too worried about that.

Is your research taking you anywhere along this line?

Interested in your story,

Sally

John Allen Jones married Mary Ann Groover (b.1832?), and they had four children: Ella Celeste (b.1851), Warren (b.1855), Emmett and Emery (twins, b.1864). I've pieced this together from various narratives, but I don't have a birth or death certificate or marriage license for any of this. My mother says there was a fire at the Hamilton County (Ohio) Courthouse in the 1800s that destroyed most of these records. I'm not sure where to go next. Any ideas? Most of the documentation I've found on the family of Mary Ann Covalt and Joseph Jones is either silent on this particular son Johnathan, or says something different, but I've found other inconsistencies that others have disproven, so I'm not too worried about that.

Is your research taking you anywhere along this line?

Interested in your story,

Sally
