My Covolt/Covalt/Covault ancestors are from Hartford City IN. That is Blackford Co where they worked in the Sneath Glass Factory.

I descend from Phillip Covault (so I am told) who married Emily Townsend, the dau. of John Townsend and Temperance Householder. John is the son of Gilbert Townsend who married Mary Saxton, the dau. of John Saxton and Elizabeth Evans. John fought i the Revolutionary War so we have the DAR paperwork on this. I am still trying to connect us to Phillip. Unfortunately my relatives who got the paperwork are no longer able to help with this due to age/illness. If you know who Phillip married or who his children were that would help me.

sorry sis, our covault line originated in Wales, and all the covault lines, even the ones that are spelled different seem to intersect. so we are all pretty much related. our line going backward is. father maurice, his father, bertie , then job, then isaac, then isaiah, then timothy, then abraham, then abraham.

We have visited the memorial marker for "Covault Station" in Milford, Ohio. The cousins are still having an annual reunion for the descendants of John Elmer Covault, ca. 1869 and Sarah Viola Major ca. 1874.
Allan Tate

Sandra -- I've done a ton of work on the Clawson family, a number of members of which intermarried with Covaults. Some branches of both families moved to the Fountain/Warren Co area of Indiana in the 1820's and decades after--and I notice that your grandmother was of Warren, Indiana. I'd be happy to help you if you have any idea how to get back a generation or two from her.
Looking for ancestors of Isaac Newton COVAULT who came from Shelby County, OH, died at a hotel in Wellston, OH, in 1916, and was buried at Fletcher Cemetery in Miami Co, OH. Don't know who his parents were, but there were several Covaults in the Shelby-Miami area. Was reportedly a salesman for Edison Phonographic at the time of his death. He may have been the ex-husband of a cousin of mine, Elizabeth (Bennett) Covault. All help appreciated. Thanks

The information in the book by Richard Covault leaves much to be desired in CORRECT information. I do know a person that does have the book her name is Margaret Covault she lives in OH. You can also contact a Roger Covalt on his web site by just typing his name on your address bar the same for a man named Colt also by entering his name on your address bar.Margaret has ALL of the CORRECT information on the Covault line. Another way just enter the name Covault on your address line you will be amazed what you can find. I have been doing genealogy since 1960, and have over 6,000 name on my computer. You maight also try to contact the Gustin family also in Ohio they have many files on the Covaly, Covault, Cavolt, etc. They are decendants of the Gustin's of Abrahams wife.

Hi Sherry, I was interested in your comment concerning the Covault family being of Dutch heritage. The book "Covalt, Covault Covolt" suggests a eithr a French or Welsh origin. I'd be interested in learning what you have found about Dutch heritage. I looked up your line and see that it only goes through your grandfather, Elmer Keith b. 1922 (backwards to Abraham Covalt Elizabeth Gustin).I'd be interested in sharing information.

Hi Debbie,
Just happened upon this message board this morning. I have a copy of the book you are looking for. I received it from C. Richard Covault when he published in 1990 as I was one of the contributors. It contains a lot of information, not all correct as in all works of this sort. But it is a great resource for Covalt/Covault research.
I looked for a Bert Covault. I find:

p. 151 Bertie Franklin Covault, s/o Job A. covault and Alice J.M. Murphy. Bertie was born 2 Feb 1882; died 7 July 1943, Miami Co., Oh bur. Fletcher cem. m. 1st Clarice Hertzler, m 2nd Alice Hazen

also, p.191, Bert Covault, s/o Preston M. Covault and Anna Swisher, b. Mar 1871, Miami Co., OH, M. Florence. It goes on to list their children.

Let me know if I can help further. What is your line?

Hi Martha,
I don't have the book personally, but I was told that there is just a mention of Sylvester Amanda with no further info?
All, I have been able to piece together, and it is still sketchy is that Amanda's father is John Mathias (this fact is certain). He was born abt.1827 VA, his father was born in Holland. John died after 1890 where he appears on the veterans schedule in Pulaski Co., KY. Amanda was born 23 July 1852 in VA. In 1860, she is living with her father John and stepmother Elizabeth in Darke Co. OH. In 1870, they are all in Shelby Co, and she has already married Sylvester, 29 Jan 1868. From what I have been able to piece together, I BELIEVE her mother to be Mary Ann Zirkle of Rockingham Co, VA. John and Mary Ann were married 17 Oct 1850 in Rockingham Co. That is where Amanda was probably born. Then appaprently they moved to Miami Co, OH. There are land records for John and Mary Ann in 1855/56? Then John marries Elizabeth Kiser/Kizer/Kaiser 25 Feb 1857, and they have more children, one of which is my gr-grandfather. There is a lot on the Zirkle line here in Ancestry.com. But, I have been unable to definitely verify that Mary Ann is Amanda's mother. And I have been unable to trace back any further info on John.
I hope some of this helps you. Let me know if I can provide more, and I would love to hear more about Amanda and Sylvester. You have just provided me with info on their daughter, Anna. Thank-you.
You can email me directly....
Catherine_Romanowski
@notes2.nursing.sunysb.edu
OR
cmr4cnm@hotmail.com

Take Care....
Cathy

Is there anyway you could e-mail me, so that we could determine if we've got the right person. Covault is a name I've searched for about 1 1/2 yrs. Real hard. I look at names, ect to connect things and somehow , I do connect things. Does the name (Julia A. Covault )Cavoult. Cavolt, ect ring a bell to you.?? She lived with William Neugebauer and wife, Mary in 1850. She (Julia) later lived with MC Stallings ( I think that MC Stallings was a person in the Civil War, I find him as a private something or of higher rank) and wife, Sarah. Then Mary died leaving William with the children, and the 3 children lived with the Stalling(s) family then in the yr of 1860. The census records says that Mary, Julia and Sarah were all born in KY. I think, Mary was as a Covault or Stallings, in my opinion. Does any of this ring a bell to you? Or any names. I always think of anything that could possibly fit.

I may be incorrect on some imfo becaue I've not been doing my reasearch in awhile, so pleae ignore the incorrect imfo, but the basis is right.

Please e-mail me if you have any imfo.

Thanks
Please e-mail me back.

Thanks,

LOLA

Would you be willing to look up Ephraim Covalt in your book. He was born in PA in about 1800 I believe. His father was Jacob or Bethuel. They came to Blackford Co in 1840 and the family was hard hit by Cholera. Jacob died of Cholera in 1842. His wife and their remaining children lived out their lives in Blackford Co.
Ehpraim married either Elizabeth Lyons or Lake in 1825. Thier children were Emery, Dory Newton, Albert and several others.
