Yes, Coleen, we're on the same track. Nice to hear from you. Joshua's numbers are what I have. He was one of 15 children of Richard Covington and (we think) Mary Polly Penn. Tracking Richard's wife has been a snare, but most of us (Covington researchers) agree on Mary Polly Penn, who was born May 29, 1809 and died unknown. Both she and Richard were born in North Carolina. I do have more; think I have a picture of Mary Etta. Write to me at ddg1931@gmail.com and I'll gather what I can and send it on.

Hello, my name is Coleen Moore. I just happened on to your message. Today is October 10,2009. This is the way the M7ore's ancestors go. Joshua Howell Covington born 2/5/1831,death 1903. My dad Albert Moore and his brother John B. Moore both lived with Joshua (their grand-dad), after their mother Mary Etta past away leaving them to stay with their relatives. Are we on the same track? Regards Coleen Moore Martin. PS Do you know Joshua,s parents name? Would like to do more research on this. Thanks Coleen

Abraham Covington - Dorchester Co, MD - 1600s/1700s

I am a descendant of Abraham Covington (d 1753) & Sarah Langell (d 1756), thru their daughter Sarah who married James Cannon.

But who was Abraham's father?

There is a record in the Maryland State Archives of the birth of Abraham Covington to John Covington on 19 Apr 1683. According to the will abstract, John Covington's will of 1693 does not include a son named Abraham (I do not have a copy of the full will, however).

According to the will (have full copy), Thomas Covington's will of 1703 does include a son named Abraham.

No piece of info that I have found answers the question of which Abraham married Sarah Langrell.

Any help appreciated.

I can be contacted directly at snkgenealogy@hotmail.com.

Dear Kathleen,

Do you have any further information on the Magruder line going down? I am currently researching a cousin Levin Wailes Magruder Jr. m. Caroline Augusta ("Carrie") Henriques, and with the names I am curious if this is a decendant. (In Louisiana as of 1874).

Info on L.S. Covington

Looking for information on the L. S. Covington shown in 1880 Census, Tarrant Cty, Texas. Shown as a "male" but also could be grand-daughter of Ed (or E. L.) Covington, and of M. M., who appears to be the daughter of L. C. Read (could be Lemuel Cicero Read). Need to verify if this is possibly my g.grandmother, Lodie S., who married John Aldridge. The dates appear to match, the location matches, even my grandmother's remark of "them ol' Scotch-Irish Covingtons, your great-aunts" but the only thing is the gender is wrong in the census. Could be government work, but would like to know for sure; if anyone has any information would appreciate a reply. Thanks.

"Slave Narratives" (Covington/Richmond Co., NC) Very interesting!

I purchased a book at the NC Museum titled "Slave Narratives from the Federal Writers' Project, 1936-1938, North Carolina." The first story in this book is as told by Louisa Covington Adams. The entire book is very interesting, but I thought the first paragraph is so full of clues that any Covington researcher would just be delirious - seriously. If you are interested in the entire story, please contact me, I will scan and send to you. Okay, here ya go (I am typing as written in the book):

"My name is Louisa Adams. I wuz bawned in Rockingham, Richmond County, North Carolina. I wuz eight years old when the Yankees come through. I belonged to Marster Tom A. Covington, Sir. My mother wuz named Easter, and my father wuz named Jacob. We were all Covingtons. No Sir, I don't know whur my mother and father come from. Soloman wuz brother number one, then Luke, Josh, Stephen, Asbury. My sisters were Jane, Frances, Wincy, and I was nex'. I 'members grandmother. She wuz named Lovie Wall. They brought her here from same place. My aunts were named, one wuz named Nicey, and one wuz named Jane. I picked feed for the white folks. They sent many of the chillun to work at the salt mines, where we went to git salt."

The story continues. That first paragraph certainly is a wonderful starting point isn't it? She speaks of Tom's wife Emma. Louisa married James Adams. I thought some of you Covingtons may be interested in this true piece of the past, as written by Louisa. Do you descend maybe from Tom and Emma? Or Easter and Jacob? Please feel free to contact me.

Jean Covington-LaCoss
jclacoss@earthlink.net
Re: Josiah Covington, b.1835, TN, moved to MO in 1860's

I have Josiah Covington/Hulda Fraser in my line. Their daughter, Alice Louise Covington, married McAnally Andrews Patterson, son of John G. Patterson and Eliza Jane Andrews.

I've been doing research on my gg-grandfather, John G. Patterson, and in researching him (not an easy task!), I've noticed that he has been placed into the line of Alexander Patterson. In doing my research, I believe that there were two John Pattersons who lived in the same general area of Missouri and whose age was fairly similar. Also, John G.'s second wife, Eliza Jane Andrews, apparently lived close to the family of Alexander Patterson in Missouri, possibly causing more questions.

I have a copy of a probate page for John Patterson (son of James William Patterson) that lists John G. as having received his share of the estate from Lorenzo B. Patterson, Lorenzo was the administrator of the estate, son of John (the elder) and brother of John G. (John G. named one of his sons after his brother, Lorenzo B.).

I have more information, including written memories of McAnally Patterson, son of John G.; e-mail me at the following if you would like a copy.

suzelpc@gmail.com

My aunt, Carolyn C. Covington recently died (May 2009) and was buried back home in Bleheim, SC at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Her father was the late Prentiss Covington (Died around 1950 in Bleheim), her mother is Ella Jane Simmons. I believe the Covingtons may have belonged to Cedar Fall, across the road from Macedonia in Bleheim.

I am searching for my Grandfathers grandmothers side of the family. We know my grgr grandfather William Henry Covington m. Buelah Lunger. that is the furthest I can go on my grgr grandmothers side. We know that there is a tie to a Indian tribe on her side and we are trying to locate it. My grandfather is in his late 70's and has always wondered what tribe he is associated with. Any information or leads would be appreciated.

I am looking for information on my great grandmother. One of my great uncles did research on our family name(my great grandfather's family), but his mother was my step great grandmother.

I know that my great grandmother was a Covington and that she was in Quitman, MS. Her name was Lillian Lee Covington before she married. I know nothing about her family other than they lived in Quitman, MS.

After my great grandmother married she had four children, my grandfather was the oldest child. She died right after delivering the 4th child, then one month later baby died.

If it is any help my great grandfather's brother settled in Quitman - his name was Luther Jarman Daugherty
