It was so wonderful getting your post. Yes, my grandfather was Dora's brother. I have had a terrible time finding his sisters! Do you have a picture of Dora A. Arnold? I know I would remember her if I could just see a picture of her. I do have pictures of their parents, Malissa Ann COBLER Arnold and William Henry Arnold. I, also, have pictures of Lewis, George, and John, and, of course, Charles David Arnold, Dora's brothers, which I would be only too happy to share. To answer your question, my grandfather (Dora's brother) was named Charles David Arnold. He was born in Indiana on 11-17-1875. He died right here in Jonesboro, Arkansas on 1-31-1970. And, yes, I would love to have a copy of Dora's daughter, Cora's death certificate!! If you wish, you can email me at ArnoldAvenue (at) msn (dot) com. I,also, wonder if Dora's brother, Lewis, and his wife Ellen COWARD Arnold had children. They, too, were married here and lived here and, yet, I can find nothing about their life together. It certainly seems that it is possible that Dora and Ellen might possibly have been sisters-in-law, too, doesn't it? (from Dora's first husband.) Lewis Arnold died four months after I was born in 1946, in Memphis and is buried there. So, I never met him that I would know of. And, his death certificate lists him as a widower. So, Ellen COWARD Arnold must have died before 1946, assuming that they were still married them. I would certainly think so! Dora and my Grandpa were two of eight siblings--4 boys and 4 girls. There mother Malissa Ann COBLER Arnold died at age 50 in Indiana at her brother, Nelson Cobler's home. He had charge of the children after she died. She lived in Howell County, MO where their land, even to this day, is called Arnold Ponds and that is where her husband, William Henry Arnold is buried. He died at age 47 in 1894 three years before her death in 1897 and is buried in Cureall Cemetery, Cureall, MO. He had fought in the Civil War. I did not mean to write a book! So, feel free to email me and we will compare notes. I have no doubt that we can help each other out in this endeavor. I sure am looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi. I know yours is a very, very old message. However, I wonder if you are still on the message board here. You stated that Mary Coward married John Miller and, in 1899, had a son and then died shortly there after. I am confused on just who died "shortly there after". Was it Mary? or the son? If you can clarify this for me, I would really appreciate it. I do have a Mary Coward of Bono who married a John Miller. However, I, also, have a Mary Miller of Bono who married again about 15 years later to someone else. So, I am only trying to see if there is a connection or if these two "Marys" are the same or different people. Thanks much!

I would love to see that picture of Dodson and Elizabeth Lacy. Elizabeth is my great aunt. Her Brother is Ruben "Tobe" Lacy, son of Joseph S Lacy and Susan Tuten.
Ruben and his wife Rachel Smittle are my Great Grand Parents. They had Joe Cleveland Lacy, my dad's dad. I remember he spoke of uncle Abe and Dodson.

Also would love to Clarify if Susan is the same person as Sarah, daughter of Rachel Coody, Z. Tuten's wife, as mentioned in some posts that Sarah is sometimes called Susan, or if Susan's mom was Lavina Bailey or possibly the other unnamed Cherokee wife, besides Rachel, that Zachriah "Wiley" Tuten had 8 children by. In other words, who was Elizabeth Lacy's Grandmother that was with Tuten? Thanks!

We also have a legend of a Coward Family Bible but no one knows where it is now. Our coward family had origins from 175o to around 1850 in the village of Stower Provost in Dorset, England. I can trace back to John Coward, born circ 1833 whose father was Edward Coward born 1801. The family at that time held in successive generations the post of Clerk to the Parish in Stower Provost and were responsible for writing up the very Parish Records that we are now using for our research! No sure if your Coward lines include any of these people?

Hi, I don't know if you have all the info you are seeking, but I can tell you that Mary Jane Coward was born in 1858 in Pennington,Lancashire to James Coward 1799-1884 & Mary Johnson's 4th child James Coward 1829-1893, married to Jane Massicks 1929-1896. James & Jane & family emigrated to Canada in 1880. I don't have any info on Mary Jane after she went to Canada. She was my 2nd cousin 2xremoved. My Coward ancestors emigrated from England to Australia in the early 1800's & settled in Charters Towers, Queensland. They were mainly Butchers & miners. I hope this helps.
Regards
Judy Grove (nee Coward) Australia

Hi Doug: I believe I am also related. Samuel Coward being William S. Cowards father. Miriam Jane Coward Osler is my Great grandmother and William's daughter. She married John H. Osler and had my mother's father John Hugh Osler, Jr. My mother's name is Jane Osler but she passed away in 1987 at 58 years old. Her brother John H. Osler, III is living on Long Beach Island in NJ. I live in Marlton, NJ. I believe Miriam Jane Osler's mother's name was Mary F. Kirk born in Philadelphia PA. I am having a hard time finding where they are buried. I know they were buried at Arlington Cemetary but I am not sure which one? My mother use to visit one in Maple Shade NJ off of Cove Road but I am not sure if she was visiting their graves. I have the sections and lot numbers. I hope to hear from you and to see if we are talking about the same relatives. My name is Susan.

Hello, my name is Donna, my mom was Dorothy Elizabeth Lancaster from New Bern N.C. After she married my father she met at the marine station there and went to his home town in Michigan, she returned only once. I`m hoping to find relatives she talked about and hopefully to see again one day, but she did`nt get that chance before she passed in 2006. I made a vow to her that I would do my best and try to find out more about her relatives, that I`ve never met, but maybe a link to us all. Her parents sam and Ruth( Mitchell) Lancaster, his parents Tom and Susan(Coward) Lancaster, her parents James and Select(cox) Coward. Any info would be so greatful. Thanks so much, Donna

1863 - John Edward Cowart married Effie L. Herrington on 4th of July in Franklin Co.MS

My great-grandmother was Effie Lavonia Harrington who by 1871 was married to Edward W. Wroten and had her first child. I'm wondering if this is the same Effie L. Harrington, she would have just turned 15 when she married John E Cowart. John E. Cowart lived until 1917 so he was still alive when she married Edward W. Wroten. Edward W. Wroten's mother was Delila C. Coward who died in Franklin Co. MS.
Bridda ARNOLD was my Grandpa Arnold's sister. One of her children was named Lottie Mae COWARD. My Grandpa's sister, Dora, also, married a "Coward". However, in 1900, she married Oliver Purtee. She and ? Coward had several children. My Grandpa's brother, William Lewis Arnold, (called Lewis) married Ellen COWARD, also, of Bono. So, it seems there were a lot of the COWARDs who married into our family. I hope to hear back from you soon!

Bill,

I have a picture of Elizabeth Coward, daughter of Henry Harrison and Isabella Smith Coward. You can really see the native american in her. Her granddaughter came to our reunion one year and she said that there was always talk in the family about their native american blood. Can't really say if it is Cherokee or not.

Doris
