I don't know if you found the information you were looking for--I have been researching this family and have determined the following: Cannise "Cannie" Cowart was the daughter of George Oliver Cowart and Martha Rebecca (Mattie) Carroll-George Oliver Cowart was probably born in the Jacksonville area--his headstone is in Verdie cemetary--go to www.findagrave.com, and search-George Oliver was the son of James C. Cowart and Eliza Jane Davis--they are buried in the Dinsmore Community Cemetary--also on Find A Grave--
I am also trying to document some native american ancestry--very difficult as the US censuses only distinguished black of mulatto--everyone else not a reservation was white

I still haven't figured out where to get information proving native american descent--I wish you luck
