The Ezekiel Coward I have was born about 1730 in North Carolina died about 1823 Greene County, MS and was married to Elizabeth Barfield. They had 11 children: Isham, Jesse, Edward, Ezekiel, James, Wiley, Needham, John, Zilpha, Jemima, and Elizabeth. My family history sheet that I have shows that they were likely married in North Carolina and moved to South Carolina later on, and then moved to Greene County, MS in the early 18th century. Now I believe his son may be the one your looking for ?

Walter Cowart, 1881-23 Aug 1913, who married Ella Arminta Mills, was a natural child of Jane R. Coward, born 1858 in Rutherford Co., NC. This Jane Cowart was on the 1860 and 1880 census of Polk Co., NC. She seems to be the daughter of James B. Coward and Malinda Melton. James B. Coward was a son of Stephen Coward and Amelia "Millie" Rogers. Stephen Coward was a son of James Coward and a Miss Weaver. Please write me direct rather than through a web-site. Joe A. Cowart, joalcoesq@aol.com

New URL for the Cowart-Coward-Cowherd Surname DNA Project

The new URL for the Cowart-Coward-Cowherd Surname DNA Project is:
http://bellsouthpwp2.net/t/h/themcbees1/Cowart-Coward-Cowher...

Hopefully, we can pull together many of the males in the family who are still with us to get answers about those who are not! Just like me, the females in the family can help by encouraging their male Cowart-Coward-Cowherd relatives to participate (I’ve ordered a kit for a Cowart cousin on behalf of my Cowart Family). With the 37 marker test, we can tease apart the different Cowart-Coward-Cowherd lines and I know that many of us would be interested in the answer to those questions. I hope that a lot of you will participate - it’s a small effort for a potentially big payoff for the family as a whole.

(* Please note this is not for profit – I have volunteered to do this as an amateur genealogist trying to find answers about my own, and my mother’s, Cowart family)

THANKS!
N.
New URL for the Cowart-Coward-Cowherd DNA Surname Project

The new URL is http://bellsouthpwp2.net/t/h/themcbees1/Cowart-Coward-Cowher...

NEW! Cowart - Coward - Cowherd DNA Surname Project

Dear Cowart and Related Family:

There is now a DNA Surname Project for our family at Family Tree DNA. The project website URL is http://my.att.net/p/PWP-DNAProject/Cowart-Coward-Cowherd.htm. Since there wasn't an existing one I coulf find, I agreed to be adminstrator on the project, but I need lots of help!

The project is brand new and I hope that the males in the various Cowart/Coward lines will participate and help us all find accurate family tree connections now that science is available to help in a way not imagined by those genealogists who came before us! I also hope that the women in this wonderful family will participate by encouraging the men in their Cowart/Coward line to become a part of the project (with everyone following the results).

It’s fast, it’s easy, it’s private, and it’s heavily discounted for those who participate in a Surname Project. And, until Sept. 30th (perhaps longer), there is an ADDITIONAL 50% discount for members of Ancestry.com. I have already enlisted the help of the last Cowart males in “my” line. Please join us and help grow a more accurate family tree. Visit us!

N. McBee
Sadly, my husband's mother Sue "Skultety" will not tell me who Steve's (Stephen Douglass Cowart born 1950) parent's were, but I do know that his mother was unfaithful to her husband (he was the product of the infidelity) and that he at least has a niece in the Georgia area. I also have a few pictures of Steve not long after Robert (his son) was born. He has a more a olive complexion, and a dark hair. I also know that Sue and Steve divorced sometime near 1979.
