Hello! I, too, am married to a Cowdin. We are far-northern Californians and it is not a common name here. I thought I would post because my husband's dad was originally from Kansas too. My husband is Larry Dean Cowdin born in 1949, hid dad Billy Dean Cowdin, born in 1926 in Kansas, his father Bud Johnston Cowdin born in 1890. These Cowdins are short-lived; they all died (larry's grandparents, dad, &amp; aunt) before they were 55 years old, of cardiovascular issues. (Larry is on heart meds, but fine so far!)<br>--Sally

I am married to a Cowdin. My daughter is the one who first responded to you - tdteacher. Most of the family is now in Kansas or Minnesota. I have some information but not a lot. We know there was a split in the family about three generations back and some of the original family are now out west. I will have to get back to you after the holidays. Then I'll have time to look up the information we have.

Hi, I have been working on this line for over 20 years now and have a lot of info, pics, etc. I would be glad to send it along to you via email or snail mail if you would like. Let me know. Our family is from Scotland in an area known as the Cowdin Knolls. They were one of the most influential families or clans in Scotland back in the 1500's and 1600's. There is also a book out called the Southern Cowdin's. We have many influential members in our family. Thomas Cowdin, Esq. was one of the members sent to help form our nation's constitution. He did not sign the constitution, but we have his notes that he took during the meetings. Very interesting! He was also a friend of George Washington and the rest of the clan of the time. They all spent time together being members of the Lodge in Boston. His daughter married Thomas Dawes who was the second rider in the "British are coming! The British are coming! with Paul Revere. So much more than that!

In response to a message posted in Dec. 2000, you mentioned you had a COWDIN family. I am a former "COWDIN" with relatives mainly in Minnesota, but older, more distant relatives in Kansas. My late grandfather was THEO COWDIN. E-mail reply if you think there might be a connection. I am new at this...

I am looking for information on Mary Marilla Cowdin, daughter of Marshall J. Cowdin. Mary was born about 1848 in NY. She married George Pettibone about 1867. The last place we know her to be is Sandstone, Pine Co., Minnesota in 1897 as mentioned in her father's will. Is she part of your Minnesota Cowdins?
