Not sure if this thread is still active. Your David D. Cowling was the son of David Cowling and Alice Cox who lived in Winnebago County, WI, USA. They were married 9 Nov 1840 in Whittlesey, CAMBS, England. Alice was born in Whittlesey 18 Dec 1819 to John Cox and Ann Fawn. David was born 1 Nov 1819 in Wistow, HUNTS, England to John Cowling and Frances "Fanny" Marshall.
