I to have a Zachariah Cox that I can not find parents or siblings for. My Zachariah was born 1788, North Carolina, and died 1860, Gordon Coutny, Ga. I did get a DNA match to Absolom Cox and Furneyford Cox, born N.C. died Indiana, but can not find the connection to them anywhere. If anyone finds anything, I would appreciate it. My Zachariah's oldest son Issac Bryant, 1815 N.C. moved from Georgia to Alabama around early 1860's and died there 1891.
Lisa

I am trying to find some information on Mary Ann Cox who was a prisoner in Alabama sometime between 1865 and 1900. She was actually used as prison labor by the New Castle Mines. The only other info I have on her is that she was white. Cox is likely her married name as her crime was listed as adultery. Thanks for any help or leads!

I know this is an old post but I have the same story only looking in the opposite direction. My gr-grandfather married twice once to a Mattie Snow, then to Flora Ellan jones. He had a daughter and then his wife died during childbirth or of flu durring second pregnancy. Dates are similar, his daughter lived with them for awhile then went to stay with other relatives. Can you say for certain that your Mattie was William's daughter? We also have Rogers in our family?

William Posey Cox was born 5/19/1840 and died 5/23/1913. I'm still researching but I think William Posey Cox's father may be John D. "Duck" Cox who was born on Mar 8 1812 in Kentucky. He died on Jul 23 1849 in Posey Co. IN. His Parents were: Joseph (General Joe) Cox and Elizabeth Hunsinger. I have found records where John D. "Duck" Cox had a son named William H. Cox who was born in 1840 and he may be the same as William Posey Cox; however, it will require further checking.
Pliny and William were my grandparents. Jesse was my father. I remember Charlie, Harmon, Fannie and Lizzie slightly as I was about 8 when I last saw them on Breastwork Hill. Jesse married Lorene J. Walls in 1929 and they had four children--Imogene, Douglas Farrell, Donald Carroll and Carolyn Sue. I believe Lizzie came to visit us in the 50's. I remember several of Harmon's children. Pearl, A.J., J.T., Charlie, I believe there was a C.J. as well.

Catherine Cox (Nee Wiggington) Chancery Case, Bedford Co., VA

A fellow researcher friend of mine has a copy of the following Chancery case from Bedford County, VA:
Chancery suit that is deciding the trusteeship of the children of Catherine Cox (Nee Wiggington). John M. Cox is trying to obtain the trusteeship from Wm. H. Bolling (a lawyer, who happened to be the father of Edith Bolling Wilson, 2nd wife of Woodrow Wilson). It mentions Edwin W. Cox, Emma S. Cox, Benjamin F. Cox, William H. Cox, Seth W. Cox, Clifton Cox and Harriet W. Cox - all children of Catherine Cox. Also, believe William H. Bolling's mother was Anne Wiggington, probably sister to Catherine Wiggington Cox.
If anyone would like to get the copy (12 pages), please let me know. This Cox family is not my line, so I can not answer any questions about the individuals listed in the case.

I just found this as a result of a google search. William Manson from Jefferson, TN is my gggrandfather.....The Cox family, Manson family and Crow family all migrated to Iowa aroun 1832-38 from Jefferson Co. TN. I don't know the relationship for the Cox and Manson families. The Manson and Crow families are related by marriage. William S Manson's daughter married John Crow Jr. and they came to Iowa--first to Lea County then to Centerville, Appanoosa Co., Iowa

Florence Cox

Hello. I am looking for a Samantha Florence Cox. I've found her name sometimes just as Florence Cox. I know that she was born Feb 14th 1857 and died May 27th 1935. I know that she married John Elijah Nipper on Sept 6th 1896. They had one child, Hardy Lee Nipper, Sr on Aug 13th 1905. I don't know anything about her parents, or where she was born. I know that she got married in Camp County, Texas, and her son was born there also. I don't really know anything else about her.

I read somewhere that she later got married to a Washington (don't know his first name) and had kids with him, but I'm not sure of this information.

Any information would be great. Thank you.

COX brothers in Texas (primarily Wilson County)

Recently found a descendant of one of the following folks [James Forrest], my grandfather and his brothers, i.e., my great uncles. Hoping to have more luck in this regard!:

Is anyone out there a descendant of one of the members of this family from (primarily) Wilson Co., Texas? Searching for 2nd or 3rd cousins who might have additional data especially on my grandfather's three brothers, and their progeny.

Children (4 sons) of James Newton COX (b. 28 Nov 1851, TN; d. 01 May 1929, Floresville, Wilson, TX) & Louisa Mildred THOMASON (b. 17 Jul 1848, AR; d. 22 Sep 1929, Floresville, Wilson, TX), and their families. They were married in Texas, appx. 1876. (I know only that James Newton's father was named "George," and that he (George) was b. "Tenn.", from J.N.'s Death Certificate (Berry A. Cox, Informant; nothing on the D.C. about J.N.'s mother, unfortunately) (More fortunately, Louisa Mildred's family has already been well-researched, particularly by Carol Jacobson of Salem, OR):

1. Berry A COX, b. May 1879 in Texas; d. 26 Dec 1945, Bexar, TX
2. Forrest J [James] COX, b. 27 Dec 1884 in Texas; d. 04 Jan 1961, Wilson, TX
3. Claude Milton COX b. 18 Mar 1887 in Floresville, Wilson, Texas; d. 17 Mar 1948, Bexar, TX
4. Eugene Ernest COX b. 08 Apr 1889 in Lavaca(?), Texas; d. 26 Jun 1980, Wilson, TX

[There was also a step-son of J.N. (natural son of L.M., from her first marriage to Hugh L. White), Oscar (Osker) White, b. abt 1873, TX. It appears that Oscar was raised as a member of the J.N. and L.M. Cox family].

1. Berry A.:
Marriage 1 Asenth Rue Franklin (1882-1930)
Children:
Leslie COX b: ABT 1902
Mildred COX b: ABT 1904
Mudalea COX b: ABT 1906
Eula May COX b: ABT 1908
Thelma COX b: ABT 1909.

2. Claude M. (Sr.):
Marriage 1 Glenn Dora FORD b: 06 JUL 1891 in Floresville, Wilson, Texas [daughter of Patrick Henry Ford & Ida Harper]
Children:
Claude Milton Jr. COX b: 27 NOV 1918 in Floresville, Wilson, Texas [my father]
Wilburn Ford COX (Uncle Ty) b: 1920 in Floresville, Wilson, Texas
Charles Douglas COX (Uncle Chadoug) b: 1926 in Floresville, Wilson, Texas. All three sons were WWII veterans; all are now deceased.

4. Eugene Ernest:
Marriage 1 Ruth ? b: ABT 1893
Children:
Annie M COX b: ABT 1914
Opal E COX b: ABT 1916
Etta E COX b: ABT 1918
Renna L COX b: ABT 1921
Fay Dora COX b: ABT 1925
Nancy R COX b: ABT 1928.

One or more of Forrest's or especially Eugene's children may well still be living [Berry's, less likely]. Surely there are dozens of children and grand-children descending from the 18 individuals born to the four sons of James N. & Lou M. Cox -- would love to hear from anyone who's researching their family tree and recognizes any of the folks on the above chart.

Thanks,

Steve Cox
Knoxville, TN

I would like to know more information on Hester Ann Cox, her birth date, death date, marriage date etc. Reed Cox is my husbands great great grandfather. In May we went to the Shiloh cemetary and took pictures. If you have more information on all of Reed and Mary's children I would be so grateful.

I guess the correct phrasing would be "before" William Posey Cox, not "after".

James E. Cox and Sarah Ann Lee Cox

I'm looking for more accurate and reliable information about James E. Cox and Sarah Ann Lee Cox from Harlan Co. and Bell Co., KY than I currently have.

James E. Cox, born May 1830, died sometime between 1900-1910.
Sarah Ann Lee Cox, born about 1825, died 18 June 1915. Her death certificate says she was born in 1830.

These are my great grandparents and I would like to place better markers on their graves, so if anyone could give me more reliable information than I currently have, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks much,

Hank
