Hi, my name is Heidi Yogus and my grandmother was Annie Winifred Coxon. Her parents were Ralph Coxon and Isabella Wilson Mabon. Her brother was William Wilfred Herbert Coxon. And yes he was born in W.Va. His wife was Nina. That's all I know about him. I do have the marriage certificate for Ralph and Isabella. Feel free to look at my family tree. It's listed as Oswald Stafford.Isabella was born in Kelso Scotland. Hope to hear from you sometime. Heidi from Michigan
The first was Eliza Harper, b. 1835 in Ashby de la Zouch. She married Edwin Coxon (my gg grandfather), and they had a daughter named Eliza, b. 1870 in Nottingham.

Regards, Geoff

I am trying to trace and find doucmentation for the Kahalua family tree and came across this post. Not sure if you can help with this, but when I searched this thread came up. Here is what I have so far, and please if anyone can verify or provide additional information that would be great.
Kahalua (maui, hawaii) married Malia Lauvao (aunuu)
4 sons: Lu, SIone Mokoi, and Iokopa
Lu Kahalua married Tumoe Poloai To'ofaatafua about 1871 in samoa
They had 8 kids
faamoe, mamoa, poama, palati, vili, elia, sola, tuua
Poama married Avaavau and had 4 kids
Toa Pola or Tahalua Jr, aliifua, faafeuu, faau
To'a Pola (tahalua jr) married Siatumotu and had 10 or 12 kids
fomai, nusipepa, avaavau, ilaisa, failautusi, nofoaiga, toatautali, lita, uaea, malaetia, lu, potutipitipi

To'a may actually be Ta'a as I was able to obtain the last avaavau's birth certificate (which is my husbands grandmother) and her last name is listed as Ta'a. I am not sure on the last names as there could be matai names and people taking different last names within the same family. ANY help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi

I am just returning to the Coxons after many years. I had also independently concluded that the Jane Coxon who married James Thompson was the eldest daughter of Mark and Eleanor Coxon.

Mark and Eleanor Coxon also had a son, George Coxon, b ca 1820 in Widdrington, as confirmed by the facts that

(i) George is to be found in Redstead, Felton, where Jane Coxon was born, at the 1841 Census (by then his parents had moved to the Bedlington area);

(ii) he then moved to the Bedlington area himself, marrying Ann Davison in 1849, and in 1851 is next door to James and Jane Thompson, who are themselves next door to their parents Mark and Eleanor Coxon;

(iii) George's eldest son, born 1850, was also called Mark, which tends to confirm the link.

I have an odd connection with the family as I believe that my grandmother was an illegitimate daughter of George Coxon, but that is another story.

Anyway I have various bits of info on the family which I am happy to share, and I am also happy to exchange emails directly if that would be easiest.

Chris Fisher
Hi Greg,
I'm sure I'm your cousin - Susan Diane Coxon (now Susan Allison). I was born in Kent in June 1956 to Denis and Greta Coxon and I have a sister Kay born November 1959. Your family history is also mine and I have a lot of information available about the family as well as a large number of wonderful photos. Yes, you are so right, we are definitely unique! Do you share a ready wit and sense of fun? My daughter, Jenny, informed me you were seeking Coxon's. She's helped me to locate William Francis' grave and in doing so she has found Harry's grave. Jenny, lives in London and has located William Francis' greengrocers premises in Southwell St West London. It is now a sugaring parlour! Would love to hear from you.
Best wishes,
Sue

That is the right family. The 1841 census lists daughter Jane and she may be the Jane Coxon who married a James Thompson. I am trying to verify that connection and find the ancestors of Mark Coxon and Eloner Clark. The names Coxon and Thompson were used as middle names for a few generations following Jane's daughter's (Eleanor) generation in my family. Eleanor and Jane appear to have been very highly regarded by my ancestors. If you have any information that might help, please let me know. I previously believed Eleanor was connected to another Jane Coxon born abouth the same time in the same region, but now think Mark's Jane may be the right Jane Coxon.

I am looking for any info on the parents and any siblings of my ggg grandfather Thomas Gray Greenwell Coxon born abt 1830 in Tanfield,Co.Durham. All i know about him is that he was married to Ann Mitchell for a short while and had a son Thomas. She went on to marry John Hill from West Rainton. Most of my maternal side of the family apeears to be coal miners in and around the Easington district and i presume this to be true of Thomas and his father.
Hi there,

I'm looking for a Hilda Audrey Coxon (maiden name) who was born 1929. She had a daughter at Bethany Maternity Hospital in Auckland in March 1951. Her daughter is trying to find her and any other family that may have known her.

If you know of any Hilda Coxons I'd be grateful for the info. Hilda named the baby Elaine Margaret Coxon. The baby was taken to Australia by her adoptive parents, Beryl and Ronald Rampton in 1951. She was re-named by them - Gweniver Ellen Mabe Rampton. She is now married and her name is Gweniver Ellen Mabe Hall.

Hilda may have been English, Australian or a New Zealander - no idea what became of her.

Hello again Salma:
I got intrigued by your Coxon connection, but found, via marriage certificate that William S's father was Philip, which leads off into South Shields and Durham, and thus has no connection to the Northumberland Coxons of my background.
If you have a copy of William and Georgina's marriage certificate that will give you her linkage, with John Grey as her adoptive father, the family living at Backworth in 1897. Also, the 1881 census shows Georgina as "adopted daughter", living at Westoe, in South Shields, Durham. Good Luck with finding out what her original name was!.

I'm sending a copy of Georgina's marriage certificate should you not have one
Thank you so much! You have helped me by giving me a few more leads. I could not find Mary Georgina as she was supposed to be the daughter of Walter Bayliss who was the third son of Sir Walter Bayliss and I have been told they lived at Denby Hall. Someone in my family said she was also under the name of Gray but I couldn't find her. I can now delve a bit deeper into her line too. Thanks.

salma

Hello Salma

I have some Coxons in my background, so I may be able to help you.

An easy way to starting check out your lines and relationships is to use FreeBMD, which covers information from 1837 to 1949.
Start with “FreeBMD Home Page” , select General Information, then Search the Database. Under Births and using Coxon and mother’s name Douglas and all counties I can find:

March 1923 Coxon, Mary I, Tynemouth 10b, p.511
which means: birth registered in Tynemouth district in 1923 Quarter 1 (i.e January through March) Mary I Coxon, mother Douglas, recorded in Volime 10b, page 511 (this should you want to order a birth certicficate).
Also:
September 1927 Coxon Margaret, Tynemouth, 10b, 481
September 1929 Coxon Edna M. Lambeth (i.e. London) 1d, p.511
Dec 1932 Coxon Mildred E Tynemouth 10b, p.416

Under marriages I find:
June 1919 Coxon William S., Newcastle T., vol.10b, p.294
Click on 294, and this shows a list people whose marriage was recorded
in that quarter and which includes Eliza Douglas. So that’s Elizabeth’s first name, but there are numerous Elizabeth Douglas’s in this district. You’ll need to buy William’s marriage certificate to find out which one, or select an Elizabeth in the Tynemouth registration district, of which there seems to be one. His marriage certificate will tell you if it’s this one.

If you have access to censuses online, following back should be fairly easy. But if not I perhaps can help you for a few years

1911 Census:
Living at Crawford St., Blyth:
James Douglas, hd 40 mar. 8 years. Steward of Social Club,bn Roxburgh, Scotland.
Margaret Ethel Douglas 26 mar bn Hawick, Scotland
Violet Mary Pratt niece 10, bn Blyth
Elizabeth dau 7 bn Blyth
James Joseph son 5 bn Blyth
George Douglas son 3 bn Blyth
David Douglas son 1 bn Blyth
Living at 16 Hotspur Steet Backworth
William Sadler Coxon hd mar 38 locomotiv engine driver bn Backworth
Mary Georgina Grey mar for 13 years age 33 bn London Hyde Park
William S Coxon son age 12 bn Backworth

The 1901 Census lists:
Jack’s Row Court, Backworth, Earsdon
William S.
Hi Jim,
You are right, Matthew, Richard and George Coxon emigrated from Alnwick while still teenagers in 1856. Their brother Edward stayed in Victoria. They left England after their father Richard Coxon remarried, his wife Hannah Carr having died. He had another family after this. Richard eventually had an accident in a quarry in Alnwick and died aged about 71.
His sons Matthew and George are buried in the Lawrence Cemetery and Richard my gg grandfather is buried in the Dunedin cemetery. I think I have heard of you. Are you the Chemistry Professor at Canterbury university?
Melanie Coxon, Auckland
