Looking for Cozine Primary sources or publication

Is there a book yet published which is sourced and accepted as verified, for example, some publications are acceptable with lineage societies such as DAR since they have been proven/sourced appropriately. I would like to find a primary source for some of my ancestors in the Scott/Cosine/Demarest line, one of whom is William Henry Scott, son of Elizabeth Westervelt who married Cyrus Crawford Scott. Elizabeth Westerfield was the daughter of James Westerfield who married Phebe/Umfey Cozine/Cosine. Phoebe Cozines father would be Cornelius Cozine/Cosine. Going back to James Westervelt-his parents would be Maria Demarest who married Jacob Westerfield/Westervelt. I believe Maria Demarest's father would be Samuel Demarest. Please do not send family data collections that do not have sources to prove each generation link. Thank you kindly.

Volume II - a CD of 12 map images plus 12 paper copies (8.5" x 11") for easy reference. The CD images can be enlarged on a computer for enhanced viewing. Last heard of her with her husband in Medocino County California in 1920........Under the name of Charlotte Jones Her mother [Margarett Jane Brooks] After that, nothing...there was a Jim Cozine doing research on the Cozine lines..a few years back...had a large chart..but nothing on Charlotte...she was my grandmother's [Esther Gregory Cozine]--father's [Arthur Cozine] Aunt....some have said she passed away in 1938....but i have found nothing....anyone with any info would be very appreciated....thank you jim in Jamestown

I am in possession of "A Cozine History" compiled by
Margaret Williams in 1977. The first generation mentioned
in her book is Gerritse Cosyn and hia wife Vrowtie Gerritse
in Holland and list their children all born between 1640
and 1652. Mrs. William's mother was Amanda Cozine who
was the daughter of Abraham Voorhees Cozine and Jane
DeHart Pierson. I would like to find a more recent relative
of Mr. Williams to give this history as it has pictures. I

Nicole - I'm Jim Cozine a retired Steamship Line Manager living in Las Vegas, NV - I've been researching the Cozine
family history for 12 years now. Your Frank Cozine's father was Monroe Cozine b 1880 and his father was Jack Corzine b1828..
In about 1875 is when they dropped the 'r' out of the name.
The Corzines of North East Texas having come from the Corzine plantations of North Carolina, ca. the end of the Civil War.
While I mainly research the the 'Dutch' Cozines that came to New York City ( ca 1633) I know a few things about the CORZINE-COZINEs. I'm happy to share... Jim C.

CRANSTON, R.I. -- Linda E. Cozine, 51, of Cranston, died Sunday in Women and Infants Hospital in Providence, R.I.

Services were at the Stapleton-Barry-Holdredge Funeral Home in Cranston. Burial was at the Mount Hope Cemetery in North Attleboro, Mass.

Mrs. Cozine was born in Muscatine, the daughter of the Lynn E. and Loretta K. Yeater Honts. She married Gary G. Cozine.

She had lived in Pawtucket, R.I. before moving to Cranston in 1976.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Timothy S. Cozine of Cranston; two brothers, Dennis Honts of Quincy, Ill., and David Honts of Muscatine; and a sister, Barbara Anson of Muscatine.

Whitley to Cozine Discovery!

Anyone who reads this Post, please bear with me and have a little patience. It is my story of how I came to this Site concerning the COZINE Family. And perhaps to give encouragement to those who feel at a lost. Although it was meant to be for Jim Cozine, I thought it important enough to share this with everyone.

After my Grandmother, my mother’s mother side of family had passed away, I was asked by my aunt and mother to do research on their mother’s side of the family, Whitley, and of course I agreed.

They knew I was doing research on my dad’s side of the family – Ardizzone, and had taken a break from it for some time. This was a great opportunity for me to get back into doing my research again, of course after doing theirs.

This is what information I was given by my mother and aunt:

My Grandmother:
Hollis A. Whitley b. 30 Aug 1904
place: DeWitt, Carroll Co, MO
My Great-Grandfather:
John Walter Whitley b. 05 May 1879
place: DeWitt, Carroll Co, MO
My Great-Grandmother
Minnos Lucy Ballard b. 08 Apr 1884
place: DeWitt, Carroll Co, MO

I was given information on my grandmother’s brothers and sister also and as well as Minnos Lucy Ballard’s parents: Ballard and Teeter(s)/Teter(s), which I am not going to get into.

I was told that my grandmother and her sister and brothers were placed in a Masonic Home in St. Louis, Missouri about 1912, because their dad, John Walter Whitley had died in that year and their mother couldn’t care for them then. So I started my research by looking in the 1920 US Census in Missouri and immediately found my grandmother Hollis A. Whitley and her sister in the Masonic Home, St. Louis, Missouri. You can’t imagine how excited I was to find them so quickly. Anyway, I then went to the 1910 US Census in Missouri knowing that not only my grandmother was born in DeWitt, Carroll Co, Missouri, but so were her parents too. I found my grandmother again with her parents and her sister and brothers. I see that the age did correlate with the date of birth that I was given on John W. Whitley as well as his wife Minnie (Ballard)-Whitley, not to mention they were living in DeWitt, Carroll Co, Missouri to boot.

So I stayed on track and continued to search for John W. Whitley in the 1900 US Census in DeWitt, Carroll Co, Missouri and found him single and living with his parents. This was exciting news for me as well as it was for my mom and aunt when I told them of the names of their great-grandparents (this would make them my great-great-grandparents). Their names were James W. Whitley b. abt 1852 born in Missouri (according to this census) and Sarah A. Whitley b. abt 1833 born in Kentucky. The real mystery is now being what Sarah A. Whitley’s maiden name was.

I went for broke and search in the Missouri US Census and got lucky to find John W. Whitley again with his parents in the 1880 US Census living in Rea, Carroll Co, Missouri. John W. Whitley was 1 y/o at that time and his parents James Whitley age 27 (abt 1853) born in Illinois and Sarah A. Whitley age 47 y/o (abt 1833) born in Kentucky. So, this continues to stay on track for me giving me assurance that there couldn’t be any doubt that these are his parents. What are new in this family though are three other children with different last names: Alice McCumber age 21 y/o; General Lyon age 18 y/o; and Rosa A. Blivins (spelt according to this census) age 13 years old. All these children, including John W. Whitley were born in Missouri.

I went back to the 1870 US Census, but found James Whitley not married at that time frame and living with a family which appears to be a cousin to or a nephew to. James was living in Fall Creek, Adams Co, Illinois. So, while I was continuing to search more on the Whitley’s, I was determine to find out what was Sarah A. Whitley’s maiden name was.

Since the pretense on Sarah A. Whitley having these other children with her when she married James Whitley, I had to assume she had been married three times before James. I search in the 1870 US Census for McCumber and was not successful. Then I search for Blivins and found Sarah age 37 y/o (abt. 1833) & Talton Blivins age 36 (abt 1834) and besides other children there, the one that was important to confirming this is the same Sarah is the child name Rosa Ann Blivins age 3 y/o (which she was 13 y/o in the 1880 US Census as mentioned above). This was great news that I was able to find her, but I am still at a lost as to her maiden name.

Then I decided to search for her being married to a Lyon, since she had a child name General Lyon. I was not successful in finding her in the 1860 US Census, but when I decided to look for General Lyon instead, although I couldn’t find him either on the 1860 US Census, I did find him in the Family Data Collection – Individual Records on the Ancestry.com and this is what was displayed:

Name: General P. Lyon
Parents: Cyrus Lyon, Sarah A. Sally Cozine
Birth Place: Carroll, MO
Birth Date: 1853

You can’t imagine how thrilled I was to finally know Sarah A. Whitley’s maiden name – COZINE! So, it confirms Sarah marrying a few times as was noted with those 3 children with different last names on the 1880 US Census. Sarah Ann (Cozine)-McCumber-Lyon-Blevins-Whitley is my Great-Great-Grandmother.

Then I came across John Walter Whitley’s death Certificate which states his mother’s maiden name is Cozine. I couldn’t decipher the first name but I am assuming it is Sarah Ann. If you go to his death record, you can see for yourself, concerning his mother’s maiden name at http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/r...=

I was able to put a few more pieces of information as follows:

John Walter Whitley parents, my Great-Great-grandparents:
James Wesley Whitley b. 28 Dec 1852 place: Knox Co, IL
d. 22 May 1926 place: Carrollton, Carroll, MO
Sarah Ann Cozine b. 1833 place: Mercer Co, KY
d. abt 1900/01? place: DeWitt, Carroll, MO

Then I decided to go to the COZINE message board with Ancestry.com and read pretty much all the messages there. What I say intriguing was Jim Cozine, on different occasions, to go to the COZINEs RootsWeb Site at this address:

It was here that I saw my great-great-grandmother Sarah Ann Cozine and all her ancestries, which was awesome. However, this didn’t help me for the descendents. Therefore, it is for this reason I am posting the information that I have that can be attached to Sarah Ann Cozine name (of course after your confirmation of the information is true) to your COZINE Web Site to include her and her descendents down to myself as well as my family children’s children.

Boydston - Cozine

According to the Green Twp., Platte Co., MO 1900 census, Henry H. Boydston b. Jan 1867 MO, m. Rebecca M. Cozine b. Apr 1869 MO, sometime around 1888, probably in MO. Henry & Rebecca have been married for 12 years and have 4 children/4 living: Earl E. b. Nov 1888; Ella R. b. Nov 1890; Edith L. b. Dec 1892; & Harry T. b. Aug 1897.
By the 1910 census of Green Twp., Platte Co., MO, all of the children are still living at home. Earl E. is 21 and is an electrician engineer. Ella R. is 19; Edith L. is 17; and Harry T. has changed to Cozine, age 12.
By the 1920 census of Green Twp., Platte Co., MO, all of the children are STILL living at home and are single except for Cozine. Earl is 31, single, and is a mechanic shipyard; Ella is 29, single, and is a clerk general store; Edith is 26, single, and is a ?Supply teacher? - High School. Cozine, son, age 22 is married. He is a helper on fathers farm. Josephine is a daughter-in-law, married, age 22, b. MO appears to be Cozine Boydston's wife.
By the 1930 census, Henry H. Boydston has died, 1929 and Rebecca, a widow, is head of household in Green Twp., Platte Co., MO. Daughter Ella R., single, age 38, is a seamstress-dress making, and is living with her mother in rural Edgerton, MO.
By 1930 census, Earl E. has moved to Wichita, Sedgwick Co., KS and Cozine & Josephine have a daughter Jane born around January 1926 and are living in Preston Twp., Platte Co., MO, in the city of Edgerton, MO. Is anyone familiar with this family? Is Jane Boydston still living? Could be, being born in 1926. Jane & I would be 4th cousins.

I'm Jim Cozine one of the main researchers on the Cosine/Cozine lines. It looks like the information that you have viewed from Debbie Blankenship is more than 4 yrs old - Debbie was one of our early researchers but went back to work so dropped out of our group.

A marriage is recorded in Mercer County KY in 1817 for John Fawkner/Faulkner and Selia Cozine. Selia would presumably have been born between about 1792 and 1802. Looking for any clues as to her birth family. Also, seek info about death date.

Fawkner apparently remarried in 1828, and later lived in Hendricks County IN where some Cozines lived.

Hi Debbie, We are cousins! I have family history sheets on the Gearge Armstrong Cozine family and most of his descendants. You are descended from his son George and I am from the youngest daughter Alma, by her first marriage to Eugene W. Peck. He died and then some time later she married Mr. Rickabaugh and had more children. Would love to compare notes with you. I have the lineage back to Cornelius Cozine who died 1786.

married to George Froman in 1873 - they had 7 children.
Her parents were:
father - William G Cozine b 1828 d 1862
he was killed in the Civil War while serving in the 9th KY Cav.
mother - Rebecca Jane Barnes
The Cozines were members of the Low Dutch Company that came to KY in the yr 1793 - and the progenitor of the Cozines in North America came from The Netherlands in the yr 1633 to old New York City ( then called New Amsterdam)

Cozine's of NY

Have been tracking down my Rumph family connections and find that a Rumph married a Cozine. My family was from in and around the Long Island Brooklyn area and a number are buried in the New Lots Cemetery. Some information is posted on the Gen Forum under Rumph's of NY. A separate Cozine Forum has been requested by Richard Alan McCool who has apparently done extensive research on various families.

My gggrandfather George Armstrong COZINE (b. 1828 KY) gave Rockville (Parke Co) Indiana as his residence on his first discharge from Civil War in 1862.

On his second discharge he was released from the army hospital to his nearest relative: Salina Cozine, New Albany (Floyd Co) Indiana. I think Salina, (probably his sister), was born in 1820 so she would have been about 40 at that time. I think Peter C. COZINE and Phebe VANARSDALE were his parents, but they were deceased by 1840.

George A. COZINE'S wife, Mary M. CRAIG, may have had some family there also. At least two of their children list GreenCastle, Putnam Co, Indiana, as their birthplaces in 1863 and 1866. He enlisted 1861 in the 8th Indiana and 1864 in 20th Indiana regt. I have his military and pension records as well as his widow's pension records. Unable to locate him on any census 1860 or 1870. He moved to Kansas 1871. Any help appreciated.

this Gary you refer to is not the Gary that is my father. He was born in 1938, not 68. His full name is actually Chauncey Garret Cozine III. and actually, i am still interested in your tree, if you would not mind sending me a copy. please email me if i can be of help to you.

I exchanged information with Betsey's father and have the details of their line back to John Cozine b 1822.... My quick look at the NY llines on the tree came up with Gary Joseph Cozine b 1968 - is that you?

Eva -- sorry but for some reason all my msgs to you came back undelivered?
Have sent to you under seperate email a sample of the many updates that we have been able to make on your line of Cozines..The Master Tree Draft is now at nbr 22 and over 2500 names mainly in the male lines - so a lot of work has been done since last year.
One important find was another work done by Mrs E T (Le) Dorr before she died and it helped clearup a lot of the other Kentucky lines ( not yours)..We are happy to share anything we have with the distant cousins gratis...Jim C

Eva S... I lost your email address and only just now realized that this is you...then only got your new address as incomplete so never could come back to you for over a year.
I'm still doing research on all the Cozine male lines and did not have a mailing address where I could send you a copy of the Master Family Tree....If you would send me a mailing address directly to my email -I'll send you the most recent Draft #20 and we can see if either of us has new information to exchange... The state is New York. Emma Jane Cozine was 1846-1889. Joseph Cozino was ? to 1930. I'm looking for Emma Jane's parents and also Joseph C Cozino's parents. I'm stuck at that point for each. Jax

Judy - I hope you are still working on the Cozine line and still looking for descendants.
Some how I missed your msg or thought that Debbie had answered your question.

I just returned from the Westerfield/Cozine family reunion in Harrodsburg, KY this morning...For Westerfield side go to Claude L Westefield at meltedclaude@juno.com - he is the head of the Westerfield Family Assoc. and has extensive computer files on all the descendants. There is no Cozine Family Assoc. we piggyback on to the Westerfields for now but I like have the most information on the male lines of Cozines ( current master tree of 13 generations in North America has close to 1300 names).. Cozine is Dutch from the word Cosijn which means wooden window frame. Westerfield is also Dutch from Westervelt ( West field). Westerfield's are from the Drenthe province while the Cozine's are from Gelderland....
