Kate Cozzens was born in Hungary. I do not know her maiden name. She married Charles Cozzens(born 1843,in New York State). Kate probably married him in New York State. Kate was a probation officer in Buffalo, NY. In 1910, Charles and Kate were living in Springfield, MO. On 23 Dec 1910, Charles died. In March 1911, Kate married Robert E. Lee in Springfield, MO. On or shortly before 13 Dec 1911, a daughter was born (perhaps in Kansas City, Missouri). The daughter was a child of Kate and Robert E. Lee. I need to know what the name of the daughter was. What happened to her? If you know anything about Kate and her daughter, please contact me. Thanks Brian

Captain Edward Cozzens Photograph, Leavenworth, Kansas

Hello,

Whenever I find a identified photograph listed on a popular auction site, I go ahead and post it under the appropriate surname for any relatives to view. I'm not the seller nor am I researching this family but I know how hard it is to find old photographs of ancestors and wanted to share.

Thank you,
Marcine Lohman

Captain Cozzens was a citizen of Leavenworth Kansas and the commander of the Union Guards, one of the city’s 3 pre-Civil war militia companies. The militia companies were called to action 4/20/61 to defend the city against rebels in Independence, Missouri who planned a raid. Under the command of U.S. Major Samuel Sturgis, he was appointed by General Nathaniel Lyon, Quartermaster (with rank of captain) 7-31-61 and was complimented in official report after the Battle of Wilson’s Creek., He served with the U.S. Regulars until March, 1862 when he resigned and entered the 1st U.S. Cahasseurs (65th New York Vols). He was promoted 1st Lt. 8-1-62 and capt., 12-1-62. He served in battles of Yorktown, Williamsburg, Fair Oaks, Gaines Mills, Malvern Hill (where he commanded the color company), Antietam, Fredricksburg, Gettysburg & the Wilderness (where he was wounded in action). He was discharged with his regiment 9-64. Backmark is Henry Ulke 278 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, D.C. Signed on reverse “Yours Truly, E. Cozzens, Chasseurs” and sent to “Sallie E.
Looks like our trees both extend back to Leonard Cozzens, my own (or more precisely, my wife's), is thru the "younger uncle" referenced in the autoboigaphical sketch of Frederick S. Cozzens, William B. Cozzens, the proprietor of the old Cozzens Hotel at West Point. The sketch is on the web at http://www.elfinspell.com/CozzensAutobio.html in case you weren't aware of it. Happy to compare notes if you uncover more of that side of the family.

My W.W. Cozzens is recorded as being born in either MA or NH [depending on which census] Married to Mahala Simons from Maine, which is I 'think' a 2nd wife, as there is a point when his 2 older surviving children were with what looks like relatives. First wife may have been Phoebe Jackson..also of Maine...but I am still working on that one.
E.D.

Sorry, I don't have anything new on ?William W. Cozzens. The reason I put a ? before his first name is that I'm not sure that he is attached to the correct parents. A William W. Cozzens appears as an heir in Ruth (Stratton) Cozzens' estate administration but I found no birth information for him so far. William W. is not listed in Ruth's husband's (Joseph Cozzens) probate so I'm not sure what to think on his parentage.

Is your William W. Cozzens listed as being born in MA in the CA censuses?

You have a ?William W Cozzens listed, and I was wondering if you have found any additional information since posting. I have a William W. Cozzens who is my G-G-G Grandfather born in MA in about 1819. He moved to California 1850-1852. The information you have may be a match...but wanted to see if you had any more updated since.....

Hi, Kathy,

I believe you sent me a personal email. You may want to try the Cambria County, PA website. I don't remember the exact link, but you can probably find it through RootsWeb. They have recorded marriage records for Cambria County for this time frame. You can see if James and Elizabeth are listed, then order the marriage application and record which will ist their parents. This is how I found my grandparents and great-grandparents.

He may be related to my Cozzens. I have a James whose father was Anderson Cozzens.

Hope this helps.

Debbie Smith
