Thank you very much for this information. Having grown up in Frederick Co., Maryland I'm familiar with Loudoun Co., VA and in fact, several of my other ancestors were from that part of Virginia. I really appreciate your taking the time to respond.

Best,
Suzie Nash

I am looking for Margaret Crable, b. 8 Apr 1821 in Blackville, Jefferson Co., PA. She married Arthur Pratt on 30 Mar 1845, presumably in PA, and died in Tama Co., IA. (They did live in Fayette Co., PA for a while.) She was buried in the Buckingham Cemetery, Perry Twp., Tama Co., IA.

I have been researching this surname for many years, and have a few questions, regarding it. On the 1880 US Census, there were some Crables that were grandchildren, who were living with the Daugherty's. I am wondering if I'm related to this family, as they are listed as "Black" origin. As far as I know, there are only "Whites" in my heritage.

It would be very interesting if I actually have some "Black" heritage! PLEASE, do not misunderstand me. I am not prejudiced--there are many, many black people who I have admired over the years--I have read biographies of Booker T. Washington and Harriet Beecher Stow, for example. The US is honored to have many black citizens!!

Don't know if these Crabill's are related but here is a website telling about the Crabill House in Ohio:
http://www.springfieldohio.net/articles/results.php?file=cra...

And here is a little information on the Crabill's in Ohio:
David Crabill and his wife Barbara Baer Crabill arrived from Virginia into Clark County Ohio in 1813 by Conestoga wagon. They worked on a farm owned by two brothers until they had enough money to purchase their land. Over the years, they had 12 children and David served as a sergeant in the War of 1812.
Marie, I am John H. Reedy's great-great granddaughter. On my Reedy Family Tree, I have posted a photo of Luther Ashby Reedy's obituary. The newspaper clipping was in my grandmother's photo album (wife of John Clarence Reedy, Luther Ashby's son).

John's and Susannah's grave marker is located in the Mutual Cemetery in Ohio and I am going there tomorrow to get measurements for a replacement stone. Their's is "melting" and I am going to have a small granite marker with their names and dates installed in front of their original marker.

Also, I am trying to find records of John's service in the Civil War to get a VA plaque attached to the grave marker. If you have anything or know where I can search, please let me know. While I am there tomorrow, I will look for your Charles Crabill. If he did migrate to Champaign County, Ohio, he may also be buried there as the Mutual Cemetery was the only one in existence in the early days. I'll check his dates and spouse if he's there.

If you have any more information on Crabill's, let me know. There is an historic house here at the edge of town called the Crabill house. My father was involved in restoring it. The Crabill family were early settlers and lived there with their numerous children. It is an amazing old house. It would be exciting if that family is the one you are checking.

Hope you get this and if there is anyone else you would like me to look for at the cemetery, please contact me ASAP. I'll check the email before I leave tomorrow afternoon.
What year was Charles Crabill born and who were his parents? Did they migrate to Champaign County, Ohio?
I'm tracing the family of Jacob Reedy, b. abt. 1801 in Virginia. He was a cooper in Tom's Brooke, Shenandoah Co., Virginia, between 1850 and 1870 (from census and family history). We believed Jacob's wife was Elizabeth Good, but I finally found a death record for Jacob's son John H. Reedy, b. 04 December 1831, Tom's Brooke or near Woodstock (from Civil War Pension papers) that gives John H. Reedy's mother as Eliz. Crabill.Death Champaign Co., Ohio, 1912. Can someone who does Crabill genealogy verify this marriage one way or the other? I do not find a marriage in the Shenandoah Co. marriages online.
I see the Charles Crabill you are tracing has Luther for a middle name. The son of John Reedy that gave the information on the death record was Luther Ashby Reedy, b. 23 April 1864, Woodstock, Virginia. Thanks for any help. We are stuck at this point until I can verify the marriage of Jacob Reedy, find parents for the couple and any death records for Jacob and wife. Marie Reedy

There is a good possibility that thru the years the name got spelled wrong just once on a birth certificate & from that date the spelling has been different. That is what happened with my father's last name 90 somthing yrs ago. The trouble with it is that it makes it that much harder to trace your line, if you can locate when & if the name change took place, than you have a starting point. Good luck.

Trying to find relatives of Marshall Wilson Crabill born January 28,1922

My father Marshall Crabill was born on January 28, 1922 to Arlen N. Crabill (1889-1975) and Lottie B. Crabill (1890-1960). I know he had a brother named Marvin N. Crabill (1916-1971) and a sister named Evelyn Crabill Beavers all Manassas, Virginia. My father died when I was 6 years old and we lost contact with the Crabill's. I would very much like to get in contact with that side of my family to get to know some of you. My father married Pearl Presley and was a WWII veteran where he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

Hi: I am having awful luck tracking down my Crabills. My great grandfather was George Crabill, born around 1865 in VA. I know that his father was Isaac Crabill of VA, and his mother was Matilda Dupont, also of VA, but I cannot find any records linking these two. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Heather Crabill

Yes, this is what I have found in my research. Actually, there are TONS of different variations including Grable as well. I have disovered that the Krahenbuhls (again, that's just one of the "root" names I have come across) were originally German, but were kicked out of Germany after the Protestant Reformation for believing in adult baptism. Apparently, this what considered very radical and followers of this idea became known as Anabaptists. So they ended up in Switzerland, and many eventually emigrated to the US. And here we are today! Crabill (Crable, Kraybill, etc..) is associalted with the Mennonite and Amish religion/culture. Funny, I am a Catholic!!! Hope this helps:):)

Heather Crabill (New Oxford, PA)

I have a photo of my grandparents of a "Robert Crabill" or "Robert Campbell" who supposedly served at McDill Air Force Base, in Tampa Florida around 1945. If this could be your relative please email me and I will send you the pic. I was told my grandparents were very fond of him and I would like to know alittle more about him to add as notes to my tree.

Looking for birth/death dates for Mary Crabill and Joseph H. Crown of Springfield, Ohio. Was she the daughter of J. W. Crabill? What was her mother's name? Mary was a widow in 1910, working as a seamstress. She and Joseph married about 1881 and had one child, but it died.

Thank you for any information.

I have been searching the Crables for several years, but have reached a stumbling block with greatgrandfather/gggfather in Kentucky. My grandfather John Burke Crable, b. 1899/Tx; m. Willie Alice Duncan; GGF James Marion Crable, b. Aug 1844 in Kentucky ??, married Martha Lawrence Craig in TX. James M's father John m. Mary Musick in Kentucy (no documentation on this, just word of mouth from Aunt who has since passed away, age 104).

Any information about these Crables would be appreciated. I thought John's father might have come from Indiana/Pa but have nothing to support this.
I am a Crabill researer with an extensive collection of data on this family name. I have found that the Indiana Crabill and Crable families are definitely related. I will be happy to provide anyone with information on how the two families are related once you provide me with the names of your grandparents and/or great grandparents.

My husband is the ggg-grandson of Andrew Miller and Margaret Crabill. Andrew Ulch Miller and Minnie Fairchild were his gg-grandparents, and Herbert Miller and Nellie Grace Martin his g-grandparents.
I am trying to figure out more about the Miller family, and have only gotten back as far as 1829 in Ohio. Does anyone know who Andrew's parents were?
You can contact me at beckykoelling@earthlink.net.

Becky

Hi Mary,
I did look back over a few of my records, and did find what I believe is this family in the 1860 census, I copied down.
Do you know who your "Sallie/Sarah" married?
From the copy of the index of marriages for Picakway Co., there is a Sarah CRABILL mar. John Q. HOSKINS Aug 11 1881.
I'm not sure where Jacob fits in either. Although, he would be the age of the same generation as my GGGGrandmother, Eliza Ann Crabill.
Please email me directly, if you want me to check any other information.
Do you have the siblings of Sallie? What is her date of birth?

Toni

I'm getting pumped out here in Iowa. I remember my Uncle Smitty" (Roy Smith) and Aunt Tootie (Goldie Crabill Smith) visited Margarite sometime in the early 70's does she remember the visit? I don't think they had seen one another since the 20's. Seems there was a problem between Smitty and his Dad.

As I said I'm pumped...questions?

Dave

I'm also from Indiana...family based in lewis, indiana south of terre haute.

as I understand it we are connected. Crabill, Grabill, Crable, Crabill, Krebil....all from the same family in Prussia. I have sent the old hessian name as Krebil/Kreble.

My "Old Prussian" was saved by a doctor with George Washinton. When Washington surprrised the Prussian unit when he crossed the Deleware that famous night guess who was Officer of the Guard...Edrich Krebil, sober and putting up a fight. Wounded in the shoulder (lost the arm), he was going to be treated due to he being a member of a most hated group of mercenary soldiers (Prussians) Noel LeClerc treated him saving his life. So if there is "Noel" somewhere in your family group we are at least somewhat related. Been a Noel in my family ever since somewhere among the boys.
Noel David Crabill
Joanne,

Your're going to need to be a little more clear as to exactly what cha need.
Love my Uncle "Smitty" very much was almost a second father to me (lived next door to them from birth to age 20) and buried both Smitty and my aunt "Tootie" (her nickname). Have some stories to tell but would prefer to do it to your direct e-mail rastrher than through Ancestry.com. I'm surprized Margarette is still with us. She has to be in her late 90's. Wow!

Dave
