Obituary: 90 year old man dies near Nokomis

A 90 year old Nokomis resident, Austin (S) Sanders, was found by relatives early Tuesday morning Nov 20 in his bed at the home of his son, Melvin Sanders, with whom he lived , southeast of Nokomis.

It is believed that he died at 4:00 Tuesday morning. He had not bee ill, and died apparently in his sleep. Mr. Sanders had been unusually strong and healthy all his life and often said that he ound not remember a sick day throughout his long life.

Mr Sanders was a son of the late Lewis and Susan (Chumley) Sanders, and was born at Chapman on March 1, 1855. He was a farmer most of his life, until advanving age made it necessary for him to retire.

In 1875 Austin Sanders married Miss Mary Jane Craig and they became parents of seven sons and seven daughters. Mrs. Sanders preceeeded her husband in death and seven of the children have died also.

Surviving are the following children: Willard Sanders of Ramsey, Newton of Nokomis, Mrs. Lois DIllbeck of Oconee, Sherman Sanders of Nokomis, Mrs. Mary Hll of Lockwood, MO and, Lester and Melvin Sanders of Nokomis.

Besides 7 children Mr Sanders left a total of 157 other descendents who are 63 grandchildren, 61 great-grand children, and 5 gr-great grandchildre.

The funeral services were held Thursday and burial was made at Craig cemetery. Mr. Sanders joined the Baptist church in his your and remained a member of the church during the rest of his life.'

Funeral sevices for Sherman "Dick" Sanders, 637 Sanford Ave. will be held today, June 8 at 2pm at the Davis Funeral Home. The Rev. Mrs. Eva Hunt will be the officiant and interment will be made at the Nokomis cemetery.

Mr Sanders, a retired insurance salesman, died at 12:05am Tusday, June 6 at the Huber Memorial Hospital Pana. He had been a patient for 2 days. He was born in Fayette Co, IL, Spetember 9, 1887. His parents are the late Austin H and Jane (Craig) Sanders. Age at the time of his death was 79 years, 8months, and 27 days.

He and his wife, the late Ida Revis whom he married Sept 26, 1906 at Ramsey, resided in Nokomis since 1938. He was a member of the Full Gospel Church of Pana.

He leaves 8 children: four sons, Carl and Eguene of Nokomis, Harold of Pana and VBesta of Joliet and four daughters, Mrs Myrtle McCaslin, Mrs Margaret Cearlock, and Mrs, Genevieve Skinner of Nokomis and Mrs Pearl Flemming of Delphi IN. Also surviving are two brothers Newton of Nokomis and Lester of Ramsey, 2 sisters Mrs. Stelal Hicks, Pana, and Mrs Hill, Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, 25 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, a son Luther, 5 brothers and 4 sisters preceded him in death.
