I do not know how long it has been since this posting about thomas shelton Craighead has been going on, but I have a correction to make. Kelly Sedden is not his great granddaughter, but his great-great grandaugther as i am her birth mother and he was my great grandfather on my mother's side of the family and i actually knew him!! I lived with him and my great-grandmother Millie from the time I was 2 until i was 5 years old when my mother, who was his grandaughter re-married. I am closer descendant than kelly sedden and if anyone wants to contact me you may do so at jackisolis@hotmail.com

My George Hughes was born in Virginia in 1792 and moved to Pettis County, Missouri. His oldest daughter married a Craighead and there is suppose to be a cemetery near Lamonte, Pettis County. Any info would be appreciated.

I am interested in Craighead's in Pettis County, Missouri in about 1854. There is suppose to be a Craighead Cemetery in Pettis County and I am going there in Sept. I am actually looking for George Hughes and Jane(Hale) Hughes who are suppose to be buried there. There oldest daughter married a Craighead and Jane moved in with her when George died. Would appreciate any info. THANKS

I am looking for info on Craighead's who were in Pettis County, Missouri in 1840s, 1850s, 1860s. Jane married George Hughes and she is buried in Lamonte, Pettis County, Missouri. I believe because of census records that Jane moved in with her daughter (a Craighead) after the death of George Hughes. Any info would be appreciated.

I just attended a tour of historic homes in the Richland/West End area of Nashville, TN. On the tour was the home of the original owner of the land spanning the entire Richland neighborhood - John Brown Craighead. He built the home in 1806. He appears to have been a lawyer, possibly a Presbyterian minister (his father appears to have been one) and was married first to Jane Erwin Dickinson then to the daughter of James Robertson (a famous Nashvillian). The current owners of the home are Nashville Realtor Allen DeCuyper and Steve Sirls. They have extensively restored and preserved this amazing old home. I'm sure they'd be interested in any information you have about Craighead. I'm sure DeCuyper can be found in the phone book or googled.

Hi there. I have the answers for you!!

George Palmer Craighead is/was my father - born 10-29-1929. He was an only child. Janet Palmer Craighead was his mother (born 10-1-1903, died 12-11-1993) and she was married to George Van Kirk Craighead (born 10-1-1901 and died 12-31-1981). I don't believe that my grandfather had any previous wives.

Do you have any information about George V Craighead's or Janet Palmer's ancestry?

I have found some new info on this. My GRgreatgrandmother Lidie Craighead/Bratcher was born to Thomas Craighead and Jane Bratcher on Jan.15,1870. Looking for information about George V. Craighead and his son, George P. The 1930 census is very confusing. I have that George V. and Janet (nee Palmer) married in 1928, but George P is 5 years old in the census. George V lists his age as 29 and at first marriage as 26. Janet is 26 and lists her age at first marriage as 25. Who was George V's first wife? Did she die? Did they divorce? and looking for George P. Any help appreciated. Thanks to one and all. She was a wonderful woman with lots of stories and history. She loved to talk about old times and her memory was wonderful. A lot of history died with her. I miss her so much. In my Mothers bible it posted Emily Ann Grant married to William Levi Craighead son of Lewis Craighead and Mary Funk.
It shows Emily's parents as Billie Craighead married to Sarah Grant??
I never asked Grandmother about this but I wished I had. I can not find information on what I think is the true Sarah.
As you can see there is a double Craighead connection.
Any help would be appreciated!!

It is possible they are one and the
same.
Thomas was his brother.
Thomas moved to Florida as well as Cora
Edgar's sister. There was also a Samuel
(brother) Margeret Ethel and two other
sisters. All children of B.G. (Biriah)
Craighead and Louisanna Milam (maiden)
Craighead. I do know that they lived in the
Chattanooga area. It is an old story that
Edgar committed sucide. The birth year you
mention sounds close. Never did know the
year or date and never met him.
I found his picture marked on the back
Rhea Springs. On the front of the picture
also. And what is so interesting is there
is a raised embossed picture of a swastika
as if he may have been in Germany at the time the picture was taken.
I would be happy to scan to you if you
think this could be the same.

I think we have talked about this
before,about EdgarCraighead.
I had heard a story that Edgar had
comitted suicide. Due to an old war
injury or stroke and was confined to
a wheel chair. I cant remember if we discussed this. I do have a picture
of him. His brother Tom lived in
Florida.
I would be happy to scan his picture
with your permission of course if you think
this might help. Came across it in some
of my grandmas belonging.
Have you found any of your Craigheads
to be related to the Milam families.
If so we have a match.

My father was Robert Leslie Carl Craighead, son of William Henry Lee Craighead, son of Robert M. Craighead. My father was from Fulton Missouri, but came to Colorado as a teenager. His father (WHL) always lived near Fulton Missouri on a farm that sits on a ridge called Devil's Backbone near Hams Prairie. Robert M. homesteaded near Fulton, and the Devil's Backbone, building a brick home of bricks that he made. Before that Robert M. was from the Virginia area, near Roanoke, and before that from Lancaster Pennsylvania. My ancestors fought in the Revolutionary war and at Valley Forge, and were inter-married with the Powell family. Before that my ancestors were the first Presbyterian ministers to come to Boston in 1680 and were inter-married with the Holmes family.

In your posting of 5 April, 2001 you state that you have found Stephen, born 1803 to be the son of Shelton of Virginia. Do you have any information on other children of Shelton? I am trying to confirm that Isaiah Craighead, born 1812, in Tennessee was also a son of Shelton.
