Bethany Crandall - Alexis Burlingame (son of Bethany and Walter)

According to a 1839 Rensselaer county NY Court record, Bethany Crandall (dau of Thomas) and Walter P. Burlingame, living in Oneida county, were the aunt and uncle, as well as guardians to three grandchildren of Job Greene, who died in 1838 in Brunswick, Rensselaer County. (Job Greene was born in Coventry, Rhode Island, December 1751 to Charles and Elenor Green, and moved to Petersburg NY after the Revolutionary War)

The children's names were John T. Crandall, Maria Crandall, and a third Crandall whose first name was unknown to Bethany and Walter. Their son, Alexis (named as cousin to the three Crandall children) filed the court papers so that the court would recognize these three Crandall children as the grandchildren and heirs to the estate of Job Green. Presumably the unknown third child was adult by the time of this court record.

We are trying to figure out who the parents (who were deceased before 1838) were of these three Crandall children. This court record showing these children obviously suggests that Job Greene had a daughter (Green/e) who must have married a brother of Bethany Crandall and had John T., Maria, and ? Crandall, and that his daughter and her husband were deceased before he died in 1838.

My understanding is that Bethany Crandall had a brother named John Crandall, and that he has never been traced, so we wonder if he could have married a Green(e), and could be the father of these three Crandall children, but we've have found no records for him at this point.

There is no other information on the children as far as their ages or where they were born.

If anyone has any information that could help us solve this mystery, we'd sure appreciate the help!
Thanks!
They lived in Panama, Iowa, where they had their five children, including Earl. Earl worked for the railroad and ended up living in Oregon.

Hi Donna,
Thank you for your reply. Nice to meet you. Sorry not to get back to you sooner, it was a busy weekend.
We didn’t send a lineage in, we just simply sent in a request for an application, noting our connection. We sent it in April of this year. Do we need to send a lineage in? We would certainly be happy to share our branch of the tree, in addition to a lineage.
Does the CFA have an online database? I know that they had an old one at www.cfa.net but I tried to access that & got a message saying that it doesn't exist. Is there someone we can contact about genealogy questions? We are very curious as to what additions/clarifications/corrections have been made to the "Elder John Crandall" book.
My husband is the one who connects to the Crandall line. His Crandall family came down into NY and PA. The Crandall/Crandell family pops up a number of times in his tree. His 2x great grandfather Charles Johnston married Lydia Augusta (Crandall) Allen. Charles' brother James G. married Lydia's sister Mary Palmyra. He also had an Aunt, Ida Dodge who married a Crandell. Johnston is my husband's primary maternal line.
Please let us know the best way to proceed to join the Association. We can be reached at cooklogic@comcast.net
I have his birth certificate as Caleb. Also he lived a few doors from Caleb Crandall in Hartland NewYork in 1850. He also lived next to James Cook. Dennis

Crandall/ Farnsworth mystery

My own line is from George Leroy Crandall and Martha Schmidt (sometimes put out as Smith in our family trees, but the birth records and her own death record say Schmidt) Anyway, my mother's cousin Earl F. Crandall (born Ring) adopted by my uncle Benjamin Crandall and my Aunt Marge (Farnsworth) Crandall had at least 2 children of his own. We know of a son but we know he had a daughter by a woman named Dorothy. We are trying to find the daughter. She may have led a "hippie" lifestyle in Southern Oregon a few years ago. Earl was not a very attentive father and both his children were adopted by their individual step-fathers. It would mean a lot to Earl's son to find his sister or any clues about her.
Thank you

Crandall married Annie ( ???) children Eugene, Annie G

My G Grandfather immigrated from Denmark. He is listed as Henry Crandall on a few census's (however I can find no birth, marriage, or death records on him).

He was married to Annie (???). Annie was born in Pennsylvania. I believe Annie died, or divorced Henry. Henry remarried in 1888, to Emma Funk. If Annie died it would have been between 1880 and 1888.

Two children were listed in the 1880 Census. 1) Eugene Crandall (born around 1873), 2)Annie G. Crandall (born around 1880). They were born in Wilkes Barre, Luzerne, Pennsylvania.

I am looking for Annie's Maiden name.

I am also looking for the children, as I have no additional infomation other than what I wrote above.

If you have information please contact me, it would be appreciated very much...hoodncoast

Chris~
I don't know if this is the same family. I stumbled on this looking for y grandmother's date of birth for a legal document. Sad...I can't remember it! My grandmother was Dorothy (Hamilton) Crandall. She was a nurse. She was married to Harold. They had one son, William Richard Crandall. He was a diabetic. Bill (William) was my father. Bill was born in 1946. Harold and Dorothy did not seperate that I am aware of. Harold passed away. He did do a lot of work on boats/cars. It's eerie that the stories are similar, but as I look at your note, I see you are spelling Crandall with an -ell. Please let me know if we are looking at the same family!

There is a discrepancy in that book about his death. Cortland says he served in the army in 1775, but he also says that he died in 1774. Have you been able to resolve this?
I'd appreciate any help you can give me on this.
Crandall's of Tioga County, New York

Seeking information on the ancestry of Sarah Maria (Crandall) Lane (1811-1885), the wife of both Daniel Lane and his younger brother Isaac Lane of Nichols, NY and later Owego, NY.

Via her son-in-law Joseph Albright bio, Sarah is said to be the daughter of Jerry Crandall and Maria Knowles. In that bio, Jerry Crandall is said to be a veteran of the War of 1812. Researcher Howard Lane states Sarah was born 11 May 1811 in Schenectady, Schenectady, New York, yet via 1865 NY census, it states she was born in Saratoga county. It is known via census records that she had a brother Jeremiah Crandall, born about 1816 and via the 1865 census born in Saratoga county. Also known is a sister, Mary Ann Crandall, born about 1821 in New York or Pennsylvania and died 8 Apr 1886 in Tioga County, NY. Both Jeremiah and Mary Ann Crandall were single and lived together in Nichols, NY and then Owego, NY between 1850 and 1870 before moving in with their sister Sarah Maria (Crandall) Lane and her husband Isaac in Owego before the 1880 census.

The Daniel Crandall that married Elizabeth Vandermark according to my family history had: 1 - Eliza Etta Crandall, 2 - Arthur Crandall, 3 - John Crandall, 4 - Joseph Crandall, 5 - Samuel Crandall and 6- Gilbert Crandall and lived in Barton, Tioga, New York. Their daughter, Eliza Etta married Cornelius Porter in Barton, Tioga, New York circa 1893. Cornelius Porter and Eliza Etta Crandall Porter had 1- Eulillian Elizabeth Bell Porter who married Alfred Ramie Saunders. She went by Lillian. 2. - Floyd Porter married Mildred Gertrude Russell. 3 - Leroy Elston Porter married Mary May Bernor. 4 - Arthur Porter was kicked in the head by a mule. He is buried in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I do not know when Eliza died, but do know that she passed after Arthur. The children of Cornelius Porter and Eliza Etta Crandall were all sent out to work on farms. Cornelius Porter later remarried a Grace Holbrooke. My grandfather went by the name of Leroy but his birth certificate states Levi Elston Porter born 1897 in Newark Valley, Tioga, New York. I also want to say that I only knew of Elizabeth Vandermark as Elizabeth and not as Sarah E. If by chance your ancestors are my ancestors I would greatly appreciate it if you could inform me of this. Thank you.

Louis was my grandfather who was shot down over France during WW1. My grandmother was Elizabeth Hainer and she was pregnant with my father George Crandall when Lois was killed. Elizabeth gave him to her parents to raise and they adopted him and changed his name to George Hainer.
I have been having trouble finding anything out about Louis.
We also have never seen a picture of him. I am hitting brick wallson info about any info. I was born and raised in Saginaw Michigan. I was raised Marilyn Hainer but should have been Marilyn Crandall. I have 2 sister s and 3 brothers all grandchildren of Louis
So yes we are related. Any info would be greatly accepted.
Thanks for what you sent, Marilyn Patch
